  • Summary: Arcadia is a fun, casual little shooter. There are a variety of enemies that will hunt you down, and a few little tactics you can use to take them down. Try to get the best score and stay on top of the leaderboard. The game is played from a top-down perspective.

Arcadia checks a lot of boxes for me. It takes place in a near future; includes a plausible scenario for tech and has a great Jazz soundtrack.Arcadia checks a lot of boxes for me. It takes place in a near future; includes a plausible scenario for tech and has a great Jazz soundtrack. I wish that there were more dialogue choices but that being said I have seen less in other games. The story is good enough that I didn’t mind too much. You play as a former software developer who quits his job to work in a jazz bar suddenly having to work alongside a former coworker he despises. The character development is well done and seems more organic than some other visual novels. Alongside the cool tech references the characters seem more realistic than I usually see in their actions and words.

I played Arcadia on Linux. It never crashed on me and I didn’t notice any spelling errors. It supports manual saving and has 60 save slots. Alt-Tab doesn’t work. It uses the Ren’Py engine. It opens on the wrong monitor and had to be manually moved to my primary screen. Tjis is a general bug with the Ren’Py engine. During my play my GPU usage was 2-12%; my VRAM usage was 518-702MB; my CPU usage was 1-4% and my RAM usage was 2.7GB.

While Arcadia could have used more content the game is free and to be fair it has more than some other games in the genre. It is solid all around and the story is worth your time. I finished the game in 68 minutes. If you’re a fan of the genre give it a go.
