    While there are a few hiccups, AO Tennis 2 feels like a fairly good tennis game. There are still a couple of things the developers can improve on, like tightening up the controls to finally hit that perfect balance, but as is, it certainly scratches that itch for tennis. The other slightly glaring issue is how there aren’t really that many “real life” tennis players here.

    That isn’t to say the real-life Australian Open has any particular stipulations in registration and participation, but when you can have about 128 players in the virtual Open and only 25 of them are real life figures (12 men and 13 women), it feels like there isn’t much variety in actual real-life participants. But at least you have Rafael Nadal, so if you like watching him in action, you can enjoy using him.    … Expand

    This game gets me more riled up than Kyrgios during his hissy fits. Gameplay is crisp and cleaner than Agassi's head. The editor tools are excellent and flexible, huge amount of fantastic community created content including players, venues and even logos. Every time i win a point after a long intense rally, the sense of accomplishment is astounding. A wave of satisfaction washing over meThis game gets me more riled up than Kyrgios during his hissy fits. Gameplay is crisp and cleaner than Agassi's head. Every time i win a point after a long intense rally, the sense of accomplishment is astounding. A wave of satisfaction washing over me with every swing of the racquet. The sound and atmosphere adds to this oddly satisfactory and addicting feeling with every ball impact. I am truly ecstatic and hooked on the career mode. The reputation system definitely adds a little spiciness to every match. A truly pleasant sequel, much recommended.… Expand

    The gameplay is solid and feels satisfying. Getting a shot in a corner can be difficult, but very rewarding. The graphics feel very much last-gen, making the players feel a little stiff at times in between serves. One of the best parts about this game is the customization, allowing you a lot of freedom with designing your outfits and rackets, allowing you to import logos to make the gameThe gameplay is solid and feels satisfying. Getting a shot in a corner can be difficult, but very rewarding. The graphics feel very much last-gen, making the players feel a little stiff at times in between serves. One of the best parts about this game is the customization, allowing you a lot of freedom with designing your outfits and rackets, allowing you to import logos to make the game feel more personal and immersive. My biggest issue is the optimization. More times than not, you will have massive frame drops to less than 10 fps in between serves, and fps seems to gradually get worse the longer a match is. This problem can be fixed with patches, so hopefully we better optimization in the future. Overall, I would not mind picking this game up for 30$, and I think it is a very good game. I look forward to seeing what this indie company does to improve on this installment.… Expand

    I love this game. Of the many tennis games I've played this comes closest to capturing the ebb and flow of a real tennis match. I found it incredibly frustrating to begin with, it's not an arcadey pick up and play, but once you get into it's groove, working out how to break a player's defences, testing the lines, changing shots, varying depths, and ultimately winning with a perfect shot isI love this game. Of the many tennis games I've played this comes closest to capturing the ebb and flow of a real tennis match. I found it incredibly frustrating to begin with, it's not an arcadey pick up and play, but once you get into it's groove, working out how to break a player's defences, testing the lines, changing shots, varying depths, and ultimately winning with a perfect shot is incredibly satisfying. I love is that you can't rely on any one tactic. Each opponent feels fresh, and even poor opponents are fun to play against because of this. My advice play with best player on rookie mode to begin with and work down. Upping the difficulty when those 6-0 6-0 games start happening. The career mode is great, has a whole heap of player created content, and great sound and presentation.… Expand

    I'm playing Career mode. The game is too hard to play. Harder to play than previous tennis games. I feel very sorry for the money I bought.

    AO Tennis 2 is a blatant rehash of AO International Tennis, posing as a false new game. It improves bits of gameplay and career by a really small margin, but still prevails in its weird and unrealistic gameplay that is neither arcadey nor simulation-based. It never tries to rise above it and just presents basic and lazy short-term tennis experience.

    Most of the time the gameplay is irritating, sometimes it just makes you mad. And it’s a shame because the developers do try to take the sport quite seriously with all the different authentic game mechanics. [03/2020, p.59]

    Despite some minor frustrations with the jump between difficulty levels, and the apparent obsolete nature of injuries within games, AO Tennis 2 is a game that will keep tennis fans happy – not only during the Australian Open, but during the whole tennis season.
