At its core Amnesia: Memories is a pleasant-looking visual novel with all in all five interesting routes and guys for the main character to romance. The story has multiple twists and turns regarding the main character's amnesia and the existence of this mysterious being that only she can see, but leaves a lot to be desired.

Although the story does have an interesting premise, it rarely makes much sense. In order to survive and get the best endings, most routes require you, as the heroine, to make inconceivably trusting and even downright dangerous decisions. Each romantic interest seems to either lead you to danger or treat you absolutely horribly, which unfortunately left me disliking half the cast. This not only makes some bad characters, but it also makes it hard to make and understand those "good" decisions when half of them sound like huge red flags. I found it hard to care about the overarching storyline as I had to play as this very naive girl whose decisions I simply couldn't get behind.

Amnesia: Memories definitely has lots of mystery, drama and even tiny horror elements, but tends to lack proper, well-written romance. The voice acting is great and the overall quality especially in terms of visuals is however up to par. Most otome fans will most likely find this game worth their time but only if they are into the "I'm a huge jerk and I will only show how much I actually appreciate you at the very end of my route" character type, because honestly there's not much else here on offer.

Because of my love for otome, I wish I could wholeheartedly recommend Amnesia: Memories to fellow romance fans, but I can't do so without mentioning the many issues it has. Players who dig the brand of "I'm going to be a jerk to you even though I like you" boy that Amnesia: Memories prominently features, get ready to swoon. Those looking for a little kindness and a more compelling overall package, however, will likely come away disappointed.

The story is strong and the characters interesting enough that clicking through all that dialogue isn't likely to put you off.

Amnesia offers a solid narrative which you don’t need to be an otome-game fan to appreciate. There are issues with the way the story is told which might raise some eyebrows, and the plot is certainly melodramatic at times, but the art and music really carry the player along towards the memorable ending.
