I played this game more times, because it is really funny. Campaign is not so funny, so what is funny? Playability is well-balanced, really very well! Everything goes fluently, there is not too much things to learn, it is easy and it comes with something new after longer moment of playing. I like it, I recommend it. Good strategy game, even today!

Buy this game when it is on sale and you will be very pleased. It is not noticeably different from the game that was released many years ago, which is exactly what I was looking for so I was quite pleased. There are so many gods and strategies to choose from that it will keep you very well occupied.

I bought it on sale $7.50 and am happy with it. I don't understand why people expect it to be a "new" game or have additional content. If you read the description you know what you are getting.

I haven't tried the multiplayer extensively, but single player works great, brings back good memories of AoM.

AoM:EE is simply an updated HD remake of the original Age of Mythology. Similar to what happened with Age of Empires II HD early this year. If you are not interested in a better graphics, then this game is probably not worth your money.

EVERY single detail in this game is 100% the same as those in the original AoM. Nothing has been changed. This is simply a package that contains: Age of Mythology, Age of Mythology: The Titans and the Golden Gift Campaign. The only details that have changed are purely aesthetic.

Don't get me wrong though this game is excellent. The graphics are much better than the original one (since the original AoM was released in 2002, it's not that hard to make the graphics better). New features include: Improved Visuals, Time of Day, Improved water, Shadows, Bump / Specular maps, Global Lighting, Antialiasing & Ambient Occlusion.

Overall, if you enjoyed the original, you will enjoy this. If you have never played the original, this is a good game to buy (at least better than the original). You will find it much more pleasing.

The only person I would not recommend this to, is one who has recently finished the original game and has a small budget

I don't know why there are so many bad reviews for this. Yes people may think MS studios are just re-releasing the same game with slightly better graphics but in my opinion, many developers do it and get away with it. I used to play Age of Mythology before it was on Steam, and it was one of the great RTS games of my childhood. I'd like to state that I did buy my copy when it was on sale and was way after the initial release - so I didn't really see any of the bugs that other players might have encountered.

If graphics are a major selling point for you, the graphics are still the same from it's 2002

If graphics are a major selling point for you, the graphics are still the same from it's 2002 copy. The water textures changed ever so slightly along with the shadows/lighting but the graphics are still an old 2002 render.

If you're interested in a mythological game, this might be for you. You can choose a God from a faction/race (ie, Greek/Norse/Egyptian etc) to play as when playing multiplayer and strategically use the powers for good (or evil, up to you). There's also the option to heroes and myth units based on what you've previously picked, such as the colossus for Greek units to give a bit of life to combat.

If you want a fairly long campaign, AOM provides. 32 scenarios to play through with a storyline that you can follow as well. If you just want to have a bit of a giggle with friends, I'd suggest playing multiplayer and fiddling with some settings.

    GLHF!

This game has exactly what I want from a strategy game. Mixing medieval theme (like Age of Empires) with cool myth units and god powers makes battles really interesting.
Easy to learn through a well made, interesting campaign and quick access to building and unit info when selected you wil get hang of the game fast.
Expect epic battles with up to 4v4 players online, both ranked and unranked.

Age of Mythology has always been excellent and to me the most interesting entry in the Age games with the addition of mythological beings. The lacklustered chinese expansion is a shame, but the original game is good enough that it can be avoided and still be a fantastic game.

Big fan of this game when it was originally released and this re-mastering didn't disappoint me at all. I should clarify that I picked this game up during a Steam sale and well after the initial launch, so I didn't experience some of the same issues others may have seen. It's a solid update that was over-priced and buggy - pick it up when it goes on sale and try to enjoy classic RTS gameplay!

I can understand the hate about the hefty price tag. I admit, $30 is a bit much for a 12 year old game with the only real difference being the graphics. To be honest though, if you were paying attention to its pre-release, you could actually get it much cheaper, I got it for $19 from GMG when I pre-ordered it.

I do believe however, that this game is worth the price. The graphics in my opinion are noticeably better and the whole steam integration makes multiplayer a smooth experience with no extra account to log in to. There are also some decent mods already available in the steam workshop and some truly awesome ones are bound to drop by at some point.
One of my all time favourite games receiving updated graphics and a streamlined multiplayer experience is worth the time and money in my opinion. The campaign is always a lot of fun too, even all these years after the release of the original game and the added steam achievements bring more fun to the game.

After finishing the campaign on Easy difficulty, playing some multiplayer, and editing some new worlds, I give this game a thumbs up. It is only the older Age of Mythology and all of the DLC with a higher resolution, but the game is exactly as described. I had fun playing the original and the same can be said about this one.

A cute, fun, and whimsical real time strategy which is one of the best-paced to date. The theme of the game, which is a bland masculine depiction of ancient culture and war, does not become too overbearing thanks to its cute and silly execution. Unfortunately, the arbitrary and slipshod balancing causes the game to deteriorate in complexity among high-skill match-ups, but playing the game in a multiplayer context is still a lot of fun anyway.

The game is amazing and has a great campaign, but the DLC is short and the elements of the setting are improvised and made lazily. Some bug fixes elucidate remnants of the past when the game was made with outdated engines today.

The game meets and continues to meet its goal, despite the passing of the years, it has managed to become a classic PC game. However, at this time, most people might find it somewhat annoying to see the charts, as they have not aged quite well.

The classic AoM got a few graphic improvements and still provides the excellent gameplay experience. For a remake / update to be sold, I would have expected a bit more though. Still, it made a fantastic game a bit more enjoyable, so the ratings wont go down harshly.

Some people experience bad performance and/or lag, but this is mostly related to either using unfitting hardware or playing with people who they have a bad connection to. The "laggy animations" are caused by the bad connections, because it seems like the framerate from the game is connected to the netcode. People who played p2p games like Battle for Middle Earth 1&2 and C&C Generals online might know this system (game "lags" at 22 frames/sec when a person with bad connection is ingame to avoid disconnection screens every few seconds).

I have had no problems so far except for having some bad connection games with animation lag, and quickmatches are quite fun to play.

I hope that the netcode will be improved with the next patches, and after that it'll be fine.
As for people saying "30$ is a ripoff" - well, they're imo wrong. But that's personal opinion.

Controlling Hydras, Chimeras, Gorgons, and Pegasuses made me feel as if I were in another world. I ended up staying awake playing hours after my friend had gone to bed.

I got the game for myself as soon as possible and spent hours building up fantastical armies and crushing my opponent. Looking back, I did not engage in much strategy other than winning through overwhelming force as a drawn-out build up. I do not know if this is because the game lacks strategic depth or because I was not aware of it as a young teen. Regardless, it was fun but I do not think the gameplay itself was ever what was enjoyable for me.

I would recommend this game if you are big into the aesthetic, setting, and mood of your games, and if you would enjoy controlling large armies of cool monster. Ff you are looking for engaging mechanics other games in the rts genre will most likely serve you better.

A great game, as the original AOM, but have a terrible multiplayer support, with a lot of lag, almost impossible to connect to a game, old bugs even worse and a bad rank mode. Also, the new graphics have no improvement (in my opinion, worse than the old one), except by the resolution.

I find the game mostly enjoyable to play even though it is an ugly game with graphics from 2000. And with AOM Extended Edition, doesn't seem like much has been added or changed/improved. It says improved graphics, but it doesn't look like it, all that seems to have improved is a bit of water texture, shadow and some lighting and it's still ugly old outdated textures.

I like how there is a mythological aspect to the game, it makes it more interesting for me, to choose a god and have various powers you can evoke, though rather limited, powers such as call down a bolt of lightning to instant kill a enemy. And a devastating meteor that will destroy a small area. These powers are very limited though, only being able to use once per map, so should be used wisely.
I also like that there are heroes and myth units, creatures like minotaurs and hydra that become stronger and grow another head after a kill.

I get bored playing too much, usually after a couple of hours, as all it is, is fighting and nothing much else. And I feel happy when I complete a campaign scenario and then feel disapointed that there's another one to complete. So I probably don't like the campaign game much as it drags on and on.
The campaign takes way too long to complete, usually I like lengthy games, but not when the story involved is rather boring and the scenario missions don't differ much as every one is mostly just build your base up, build army, attack and defeat. I just want it to hurry up and be over already. The campaign should be 15 to 20 scenarios at most, not 32. I prefer to play just random maps in short bursts.

And it's frustrating when you get halfway through a scenario, only to have the game crash and you try and reload a recent save but the save file is stuffed and wont load so have to start the scenario from the beginning again.

I liked the game over all and say it's worth getting and playing at a discounted price for $10 or less, but not for full price as it's just an old rehashed game which has out dated graphics and not many improvements. Nothing that modernises or makes it feel worthy of the so called Extended title.

Extended Edition is addictive, but owes it to the brilliance of Ensemble (the developers of the original AoM), not SkyBox, who basically put their name under someone else’s work after introducing changes so marginal that you might not even notice them. [07/2014, p.70]

Such derring-do from developers. They grabbed an excellent strategy game, they broke the most important part of it, and they are selling its outcome for a ungodly price. A copybook remake of how to not redo the old games. It's a great disappointment indeed.

Age of Mythology: Extended Edition is an excellent strategy game in its core. The scanty treatment it got for this Extended Edition makes this pretty disappointing. A few additions and graphical updates don't justify the high price tag.
