    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. es increíble lo competitivo que se ha vuelto y la cantidad de jugadores que tiene después de tantos años, la dificultad de ser mejor en estrategia y velocidad lo hacen ciertamente adictivo, las nuevas civ también dan balance al juego y con los servidores de voobly jugar online es fácil, en fin otro juego no puede logar esto después de tantos años, solo lo aprecian los que ven mas allá de gráficos en 4k y entienden de la dinámica del juego… Expand

    I don't understand why the score here is so low. It is clearly a qualified remake. And it successfully invoked a wave of returning.

    It should be an 8 point, but I make it 10 to increase its average score (which is too low according to my understanding)

    Looking forwards to AOE 4.

    Отличная игра была и осталась такой же. На моей памяти так все и выглядело, кроме разрушений, но оказалось, что я дорисовывала до современного уровня, хотя некоторые анимации остались такими же. Сейчас таких игр уже не делают, только и радуешься, что можно поиграть в старое на новом компе.
    Кто любит ее, тот купит)    Отличная игра была и осталась такой же.     This is an improved version of the "The Conquerors" expansion. I played for hundreds of hours. I can say with propriety that it is a great remastering! They improved several items in the game, how to build farms automatically, improve the management of resource evolutions. They added new civilizations and campaigns. Honestly, I did not understand the low score given by users.

    Still as good as it was before. Plus with this DE, there's plenty new campaigns and new civilisations. That game never gets old.

    LOL, the two current 1 scores are from the "same" person. Joined on the same day, only one post, and they say almost exactly the same thing (complaining about no Steam release). This is why Metracritic user scores stink. CLEAR spamming. All the time.

    BUT, this is the same game, clearly, but with better/smoother visuals.     If you already own the game and it runs on your computer fine there aint no reason to get this.
    Its just a nice spitshine of paint and new music.

    I actually kind of miss the pixel art.

    Game plays same as you remember it. So ill give it the same review score I did to the first one.

    I remaster as it's supposed to be. If you roam around looking for a classic RTS game, then this is it. I found it satisfying exactly as a classic real-time strategy. Enhanced graphics make it feel like a (almost) modern game while all the gameplay & interface elements keep the coolness of the original one. The pacing is proper as well, I don't feel like it would be too slow. It crashed twoI remaster as it's supposed to be. If you roam around looking for a classic RTS game, then this is it. I found it satisfying exactly as a classic real-time strategy.     A good remaster. No one has expected big changes in gameplay. It´s still AOE only with much better grphics and soundtrack. Sadly that AI is not improved and that you can buy game only on Microsoft store.

    'Twas 2001, the first time I played Age of Empires, an epic and unique experience for me. I was enjoying playing with the civilizations in antiquity, especially with the Romans. It was a little different and exciting since it was my first strategy game experience. Now, while playing Definitive Edition, I realized that I wish we were still playing the old versions, even if these games were out of date. The development effort called Remaster results in disaster in many games. They think they can sort out the job just by doing graphic polishing. However, since there are target groups that buy those Remaster games, I think the developer team doesn't care about the balance of the game because of it.

    I enjoy playing Age of Empires Definitive Edition, but I also think some obvious bugs need to be fixed. Like, enemies directly rushing through your villagers, not the army they are facing with. That is obvious; there is an army full of swordsmen, archers and cavalries, but the enemy army is still searching my villagers, which these villagers staying behind the army and lots of walls. This is not how to make a game, this is a disaster! In other words, I do not think of how these errors escape from the eyes of the developer companies. There is a huge game developer company and a huge distributor company behind it, but they do not fix even the slightest obvious mistake. Look, I'm not saying that they can't fix it. They do not fix it.

    This game was a mixed bag for me, in the end I've put quite a bit of time into replaying through the single player.

    This game was a mixed bag for me, in the end I've put quite a bit of time into replaying through the single player.

    The Good:
    *New visuals and audio (music is great, and I love the building destruction).
    *They added a button that makes villages auto reseed the farms and people can now pass over the farms.
    *Villagers auto harvest resources after building a building that collects them (reduces the micromanagement).
    *Expanded population limit!
    *Added a narrator to the campaign.
    *Pathfinding is now better than the original game’s (as of the May 2019 patch, although it is still lacking compared to modern FPS game AIs).
    *The game now has global queues displayed to show what units are being built, you can click on them to go to the building training the unit.
    *Game is still being patched.

    The Bad:
    *Pathfinding is still bad, if you place one of your units a bunch of you’re non-moving units they won’t move to let it through.
    *Amount you can zoom in and out is limited by graphics detail, if you want to zoom out super far you need to have the graphics detail (it is called zoom detail) set to 1x. If you want full graphics detail your camera is forced rather close and I find this annoying, so I normally find myself playing at 2x detail instead of 4x which leads to it looking blurry at certain zoom levels.
    *AI still isn’t great although the May 2019 patch has improved some of the really bad things, perhaps future updates will eventually make it really good.
    *Modding takes you back to the dark ages where you have to go to a website to download the mods by hand.

    All in all I’d only recommend getting this if you loved the original and want to play through it again or if you’ve never played the original before. Going back to the non-hd version is now (after the latest patch) something I can’t do.    … Expand

    If you played it before i don't think you should buy it it's the same old game with a small visual enhancement that I don't think was worth my money however if u haven't played it or if u're new to RTS genre what better way to start than to play one of the best RTS of all time

I understand the difference between remasters and remakes, but even so, just pulling up the makeup, and leaving all the mechanics with pros and cons for a new generation of players is either laziness or greed. Were even lazy to update photon man and big daddy car. - Expected more from the definitive version: campaigns, tech, etc. - Minimum new things. So, I was a big fan of the original game and spent hours. That's why I gave 7. But if you seek for something    Pros.:

    Not the best or not the worst game either. For me I just boring playing this game. Because the civilization in Age Of Empires 1 is more less than Age Of Empires 2 and Age Of Empires 3.

    Old wine in new bottles. Sadly Microsoft didn’t go the extra mile and brought some mechanics up to date. The underlying game is just the same old game, with its broken way finding, just with a lot of lipstick on. Beautiful lipstick though, but it just feels like his could’ve been much more.

You still got the same gameplay, same campaign and scenarios, and same mechanics.     3.- Some gameplay improvements: Farms are easier to build and you can pass through them, inactive villager button, you can build even if there is a tree or animal in the place, and you can pass through buildings if they are not built yet
    4. You have a narrator before and after every campaign scenario.
    5. You have the tech trees button for every civilization (just like AOE 2).
    6. Amazing building destruction sprites.

    Cons:
    1.- Same old AI, even sometimes the pathfinding is somehow worse than the original game (Example: A group of villagers trying to collect food from forage bushes on a narrow space)

    2.- Civilizations controlled by the AI is the same, plays bad even in Hard difficulty : Develops too few technologies, in water maps it sends villagers to get resources very far from the base so it losses a lot of them, it does not take care about its villagers, 5 from 10 times (approx) it build defenses in isolate places that do not defend the base or close-base resources, and does not know how to counter attack
    TIP: If you like to play skirmish mode in solitary (like me), just play on maps with 0% water, for some reason the AI only in this kind of maps does not commit suicide with the villagers.

    3.- No basic formations or basic commands such as guard, follow, passive, aggressive, defensive behavior.
    4.- No information about how many villagers are working on different resources.
    5.- Can not queue more than one kind of units in one building.
    6.- No modding capability.
    7. Small personal detail: In the original version, dead units would start to decay, before becoming skeletons, before fading out. In the Definitive edition that decomposition detail is lost.

    I know that Devs say that "this is not a bug/basic limitation, it is a feature!". Old basic limitations/bugs have no reason for existing in a modern remake, so I hope that Forgotten empires are still working and creating a nice Age of Empires definitive edition such as nowadays Age of Empires 2 HD in Steam.    … Expand

    Вот просто доебала эта игра, тупейший ai своих персов, отправляешь в одну точку они вообще в разные стороны разбегаються, тупат жостко, бегают за противником и никак не могут достать его, сам геймплей доставляет удовольствие, и я даже вспотел, от накала страстей. Графон конечно улучшили, но и на том спасибо. А русиш перевод просто дрянь, местами вообще не переведенно.Вот просто доебала эта игра, тупейший ai своих персов, отправляешь в одну точку они вообще в разные стороны разбегаються, тупат жостко, бегают за противником и никак не могут достать его, сам геймплей доставляет удовольствие, и я даже вспотел, от накала страстей.     I’m torn. On the one hand it’s Age of Empires as I remember it, atmosphere and spirit intact. On the other hand despite refreshed graphics it’s simply an old game so sentiment seems the only driving factor here. [04/2018, p.61]

    Not even beautiful graphics, new animations and a great soundtrack can hide the fact that Age of Empires isn’t good enough according to modern standards. Remaster brings some nostalgic feelings but only when you get over the technical issues, lags and AI mistakes.

    I still have major concerns about the game's combat, but Age of Empires: Definitive Edition is a good history lesson for what inspired me and so many others to love RTS genre so much. It’s a brilliant game with a ton of content and for such a low entry price, I think it’s worth a look even if it’s not perfect.
