    Haunting game. Not even a game in the traditional sense, but I can safely say that if I'd played this ten years ago, I'd be a different person. Those who've experienced depression or loneliness will not likely find a more resonating experience within a video game. Written with brilliant and heart-wrenching honesty.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Pokemon graphics + a depressed person with a always negative outlook on life. I played this game 5 times before I beat it. Every time I would play it for about 20 minutes and then I would get bored and move on to something else. Finally I held out long enough to beat it. This is a game about a guy who is depressed. He is miserable with his life and nothing will change his outlook. He feels he has wasted his life away and after an hour I feel like I have wasted my time with this game. It is relatable. I related to the main character in lots of ways. But in the end the game was a lot shorter than I thought it was. It wasn't as deep and profound as I thought it was going to be based on reviews. In the end you can't change the stories outcome. You get told to head to the roof to commit suicide the whole game. But if you try to do it anytime before the ending it tells you to turn back and go through some other sluggish dialogue. Once I beat the game I was surprised that was how it ended. I restarted the game instantly and raced through it just to see if I could die earlier in the game. Maybe change something, anything. Nope. It is what it is. It was cool for one playthrough. The ending was just depressing and it seemed like an emo trip i never asked for since there was no way i could change the outcome. I thought this was a story about the games creator. I expected him to tell me how he got through his struggles of depression. In the end he just kills himself. The game doesnt even show it. It is just implied. I was expecting to get some awesome advice. How to change a negative perspective in life into a positive. No it just drags you down a depressing timeline. The game would have been better if it was 20 minutes long. Everything after that changed nothing. I didn't even get to know anything interesting about the other characters. You come into contact with all of them about 3 times each. Boring. Play it once. Then delete it.… Expand

    I was also impressed to see a game made on RPG Maker VX Ace that was so enjoyable - often the products of the RPG Maker series serve as a way for a creative mind to explore ideas, rather than making it to a level where it can actually capture an audience.

    Actual Sunlight is a good narrative experience, which deals with mature and atypical themes. Despite a poor visual rendering, the story (witch is very short) is well written and gripping to the end.

    Actual Sunlight is a kick in the eye. An heartfelt journey through the thoughts and days of a hopeless working man that in the end decides to quit from life.
