A Hat in Time is a delightful and whimsical platformer that successfully captures the essence of classic 3D platforming games from the bygone era. Developed by Gears for Breakfast, this game manages to strike the perfect balance between nostalgia and innovation, offering a charming and memorable experience that will captivate both newcomers and fans of the genre.

One of the first things that stands out about A Hat in Time is its gorgeous art style. The game boasts a vibrant and colorful aesthetic that feels like a love letter to the golden age of 3D platformers. Each world you visit is beautifully crafted, with attention to detail and a distinct personality. From the cozy, forest-filled hub world to the bizarre and whimsical environments, every level is a visual treat.

The gameplay mechanics in A Hat in Time are a joy to experience. Controlling Hat Kid, the game's adorable protagonist, feels tight and responsive. The variety of hats she can equip adds a layer of versatility to her abilities, allowing for creative approaches to platforming challenges. The level design is cleverly crafted, with a mix of challenging platforming sequences, engaging puzzles, and entertaining boss fights that keep you on your toes. Each level is unique and offers its own set of mechanics and objectives, preventing the game from ever feeling repetitive.

The narrative of A Hat in Time is surprisingly engaging, offering a whimsical and lighthearted story that gradually unfolds as you progress through the game. The characters you encounter are colorful and memorable, and their interactions with Hat Kid bring a sense of life and personality to the game world. The humor is often charming and genuinely funny, creating an enjoyable atmosphere throughout the adventure.

The game's soundtrack deserves a special mention. Composed by Pascal Michael Stiefel, the music perfectly complements the game's whimsical nature, evoking a sense of wonder and adventure. Each track is carefully crafted to match the tone and theme of the levels, enhancing the overall experience and immersing the player even further into the game world.

While A Hat in Time offers an incredibly enjoyable experience, it's not without a few minor flaws. The camera controls, while generally functional, can sometimes be a bit finicky and cause frustrating moments. Additionally, a few technical hiccups and occasional frame rate drops can momentarily disrupt the otherwise smooth gameplay.

Overall, A Hat in Time is an absolute delight for fans of 3D platformers. Its charming art style, engaging gameplay mechanics, well-crafted levels, and captivating soundtrack make for an unforgettable experience. Despite a few minor flaws, the game shines with its attention to detail, creative design, and pure nostalgic appeal. Whether you're a long-time fan of the genre or a newcomer looking for a whimsical adventure, A Hat in Time is an absolute must-play that will leave you with a smile on your face.

This game is great. All the levels are full of personality and life, the movement is tight and is some ways better than most 3D Mario games. I'd give it a 10, but the Seal the Deal DLC and Alpine Skyline level aren't great, but still alright. If you're a fan of platformers, I definitely recommend this game.

Quite simply, even without being much of a Nintendo fan, other 3D platformers (of the Mario variety) totally blow "Some brat in time" out of the water and are far more replay-able and enjoyable. So once again, even after coming back to it years later for affirmation, its is extremely befuddling to try and understand what people saw about it that I didn't. Note that I'm quite aware of other platformers going back as far as the Rayman series- namely "Rayman 2: The Great Escape" being a particularly good comparison since it does more than "A hat in time," ever will do and it did it better 18 years before this modern platformer saw the light of day.

I could pretty much just cite multiple examples of how it rips off actually "good" titles like the Paper Mario series, or pretty much combines all the cutesy-wootsy things that companies have been selling forever to grown men in both Japan as well as North America, but all of that won't mean much to people who's tastes haven't really matured as they've gotten older. "Some little girl time," isn't particularly original, it has some pretty slippery collision detection going on and a lot of the platforming doesn't feel precise. This is a huge problem. It also looks kind of terrible from a visual standpoint. The in-game graphics option refers to its "depth-of-field" setting as "how the game was intended to be played," which is utterly ridiculous as it looks terrible and hides loads of LOD range texture pop-in on the Unreal engine... which can handle everything they throw at it when it comes to this game. Theirs also something about the strange and overly bright lighting that makes the whole screen distracting to look at since it pulls your attention away from the center of the screen.

I guess its fine, its an average 3D platformer collect-a-thon, even though those died out a full decade ago. I guess what really ticks me off is that its so mediocre and people praised it so hard, but what has "Gears for breakfast" done since? Have they released anything besides a few DLC packs for the game that barely add anything? Exactly. If they were the next big name in the genre, then maybe they would've outdone themselves by now, since the implication from fans is that they "already had all the right ingredients." Sure they did. I bet it had nothing to do with a stagnant year in Videogames back in 2017 either.

Level design is sparse, controls are downright awful, there's this weird thing where you press shift and the whole screen goes black to show a small circle of where to go so you can't see anything which you will constantly press trying to roll. There's automatic wall climbing and she wants to grab onto anything and everything in sight then the camera locks onto this girl you are supposed to chase with no warning whatsoever. Its like you being pulled in a million different directions. I honestly lasted a grand total of 30 seconds after the first level loaded before I quit. Terrible game. Just from a technical standpoint needs much longer in the oven before it is really even playable. Then they can work out everything else like the level design, game-play mechanics and graphics. A great platformer with a decent story and fun, interesting characters. Each world is dense and contains interesting missions that make the game an overall blast to play. The only real downsides in the game are the fact that there are frame rate issues at different parts of the game and that the combat overall is extremely simple.

The first two acts of the game are underwhelming, with their low difficulty and cheesy storylines providing an unappealing and dry introduction to the game that fails to keep your attention and lowers your expectations as a whole. However, as you progress into the later acts, the quality of the levels will improve and convince you enough to keep revisiting them to try to find all of their secrets.

The gameplay is simplistic and there are not really any complex objectives. It is a true blue platformer that does not try to be overly ambitious. The collectables in the game are purely cosmetic and do not influence the gameplay in any advantageous manner, but they can convince you to explore every nook and cranny and climb to places you'd never think of just to retrieve them. Sadly, it doesn't take long for the collectables and currency to become pointless to acquire.

A Hat in Time is short and does not look fully fleshed out. Although the game is beautiful and offers a decent amount to explore, it does not scratch the same itch as other adventure games designed in the same light such as Super Mario Sunshine. However, it can still be fun when played with a friend. A good lengthy cooperative night can make the experience enjoyable and hard to set aside.

The game has some difficulty spikes at the boss battles, but It's really satisfying when you defeat them. This is what 3D platformers should strive to be.

You go from a town taken over by the Mafia to a competition between a penguin and an owl where you have to star in their movies to give them positive reviews based on how well you played. There is also a forest inhabited by a shadow monster that makes you sign contracts after taking your soul and you also travel to a group of islands stretching above the sky. The DLC makes the game even better with a ship of seals called the "SS Literally Can't Sink" and work for a jewelry store owner to collect timepieces(like stars and shines from Mario) in the metro. There is also loads of customization for the different hats, costumes, and color schemes. Although there are only 40 timepieces in the base game, the DLC also adds a much harder mode containing missions that keep you coming back to the game to complete another objective. There is also a new multiplayer DLC that is basically infection but in A Hat in Time which is a great mode to play with some of your friends that get the game too. The $40 price for the base game with the first 2 DLC packs is a great steal so get it if you have the chance. Expand

If you're not a fan of this genre then you're probably going to get bored but for me, this game is incredible.

Basically, almost everything is perfect. The level design is great. The worlds and whimsical and well designed. Your range of motion is perfect. Just running around and not really even doing anything just feels... GOOD. It's hard to describe but the way everything controls is just fluid and perfect.

There are some glitches here and there but they don't really break the game. Sometimes it's frustrating because they're collision problems and I clipped through something but it was rare. The camera is a little wonky at times but honestly... as someone who grew up with games like this it's not even a problem for me anymore. Fiddling with cameras is like second nature to me. The difficulty curve is weird and it definitely spikes later on out of nowhere but it's not that bad.

Overall it's just a really amazing game and I regret waiting so long to finally play through it completely

They cannot be any better, hat girl jumps around just like Mario does. The controls are actually so good that they rival Mario at time, i have not played Mario games past Mario galaxy so i cannot say how they have changed. But this feels like Mario Sunshine but without the gimmick of the water canon. Instead you have magic hats that you stitch by collecting wool in the game, it is fun finding all the wool. They are placed well and are fun trying to solve their puzzles. The voice acting and the characters are all extremely likeable. Hat girl herself is the most adorable thing in the world and has more character then most AAA paid voice actors. You can tell the developers had a lot of fun designing the game. They seem to make fun of everything just like Conker. So many times it had me laughing out loud because of the funny writing, like the ghost guy who makes you sign contracts. It reminded me of Conkers bad fur day(My favourite game of all time)but without the drinking, swearing, violence and sexual themes of Conker. Don't get me wrong this game is surprisingly dark for a platforming adventure kids can like, like the part at the queens mansion. But it never seems over bearing, in fact i love how it covers so many things well. Many directors of kids films even say themselves, you need to add a little bit of dark stuff. But modernized for the current generation of consoles. I love this game, it is so refreshing to play a game like this. I was a bit bored at first, but once i understood what this was. I had so much fun listening to the characters and going through the time rifts. It never felt like busy work, it felt like extremely engaging excellent game play. This game is not without its flaws though. I have had the game crash so badly that it bugged out steam thinking it was still alive. Forcing me to end process over tsk manager. There are noticeable frame-skips even this late, as the game came out 3 years ago. The game will suddenly have a mini heart attack, then quickly load up. LOL It made me be like"Oh no, is it going to crash..... Oh good"*LOLS ensue. The camera can also be an issue. Some sections of the game slow down for stealth(Which is fine and good)but the camera can get cumbersome in tight areas when you are trying to find the next platform to jump onto to get to the next part, while avoiding guards. Another thing is rifts give a slot machine to obtain different aesthetic upgrades. I don't like the randomization. I think they should let us choose. Another thing is there are no lives as there are in traditional games of this sort. I think they maybe should have added a life mechanic where if you die too many times you have to start at the beginning of the level. It is all worth it though as i just absolutely had a blast playing it. I am still not done. I wanna keep playing. I have played 30 hours or so of it. But i wanna keep playing it. The writing is so fantasic and i don't see how they can screw this up so far. Some people have complained that JonTron is lending his voice to the game as a receptionist, lemme tell you that is a dumb reason to not like a voice actor or a game. His political opinions have nothing to do with his talent as a comedian and voice actor/writer. It is immature. This is an excellent game i would give it ten if not for the problems i talked about, but no game is perfect. I hope they make a sequel. Expand

A feature that really that helps speedrunners is a timer in the game. Even if you are not a speedrunner you can still see how fast you can complete the game if you want.

I first encountered this game through the Brutalmoose Youtube Channel, where he covered the beta for this game shortly. I was immediately impressed by the visuals and various moves displayed and Brutalmoose seemed to have a good impression of it.

Having played the full game and completed it myself, I can say that this is definitely one of the best 3D platformers I've ever played. In my head, this surpasses the legacy of platformers like Banjo Kazooie, Donkey Kong and Super Mario 64.

In A Hat in Time you play as Hat Kid, an alien child trying to get back home. However, you are forced to make an unplanned stop due to passing near Mafia Town.

From here to there, you lose all 40 units of your fuel, also called Time Pieces, or Thingamajigs, or Junk, it all depends on who you're asking. Immediately you are met with a variety of colorful NPCs and enemies and released into an open world where you can practice your varied move set which includes Dashing, air dashing, double jumps, air recovery... and that's before you even factor in the additional movesets you gain with Badges and Hats.

The controls are amazing. Saying they're "Tight and responsive" doesn't do them justice. To quote the legendary AVGN, this feels just like it should, like you're in control. Not one time throughout my playthrough of A Hat in Time did I feel frustrated by the controls in any way. Every movement was as I intended it. No slipping around, no delays, perfect.

The sounds and voice acting are great. All of the voice actors did a bang up job playing their roles and made for enjoyable and memorable characters. The option to have the characters mumble (in Banjo Kazooie style) rather than talk is also fun. However, I must comment that unfortunately not ALL characters seem to have mumbles, which is a shame, I was really looking forwards to hearing the Jon Tron bird mumble.

I never buy soundtracks on Steam unless they're in a bundle with the game. But for this game i actively went out of my way to buy the Soundtrack. It's that good. It's so good I hum it in my head when I'm at work. That's how enjoyable and memorable it is. Not to mention, it has some tracks by the legendary Grant Kirkhope! In addition, you also get remixes you can unlock within the game of certain themes, which you can even swap so they play in the level instead of the regular music. Talk about going one step beyond!

The only gripe I have with this game is that it's a tad short for my liking (for now!) However, the creators had the foresight to make this game easily moddable, which adds plenty of hours of fun to it.

I really want to see this game become a franchise, I want to see these developers take this even further! More Hats, more Badges, more levels!

Congratulations to the crew for showing the world that it doesn't take Nintendo to do a platformer right.

This game reaches what most platformers try, feel you have total control in your movements. Spectacular worlds, design, animation, art, level disign. Feels as good as any Mario game.
The only issue i have is with the camera, in non-open spaces doesn't work as it should. But is a MINOR issue. Not to the point to ruin the inmersion you have in the game.

The world in Nyakuza Metro was fun to explore while looking for the objective, which was sometimes hard to find. The new chapter in Seal the Deal wasn't as good as Nyakuza, but was still good. Navigating on the maze-like ship was hard and frustrating, and if I were to review it separately, i would give it at least an 8/10. The new difficulty is great, and it does it's job at being hard. It sometimes changes the missions completely. It ranges from adding some more obstacles to fighting two bosses at the same time. Expand

During your playthrough you will visit unique locations with memorable characters. While some of the worlds are a bit confusing, it doesn’t affect the experience that much, since you can always look up, where you have to go to reach your main objective. In A Hat in Time, there are so called “pons” you need to collect to unlock certain levels or skills. However, unlike the music notes in Banjo Kazooie, these “pons” will respawn, after you re-enter the level. I am really thankful for that, since some levels are a bit confusing, like I already said. But “pons” aren’t the only collectibles. The rewards for completing main objectives are time pieces, which you need to progress in the game and unlock new worlds in the hub area. You also need to collect yarn so you can craft new hats, which will give you new abilities.

The controls are pretty good. If you get used to the double jump and the dive it feels really satisfying to get to difficult to reach areas. Even though the camera most of the time works almost perfectly, it bugs me that you can’t look up or down. It just makes it a bit difficult to find certain collectibles, which can be annoying at some points.

The graphics are alright, nothing too special, but during my playthrough I noticed several graphical glitches. Some of the animations also look really weird, compared to the more clean movements of Hat Kid. On the other hand, the soundtrack is really good. The composers did a great job with the OST, because there are many songs, which are absolutely gorgeous. I also like the voice acting. It works perfectly with the characters and it also makes them stand out.

I also want to address the level design. One thing I really liked about this game is that almost every level feels unique. You most likely won’t do the same thing twice. But there is one world, which distinguishes from the others. The world I am talking about is open-world-like, so you can choose, which objective you want to complete first. At first, it doesn’t sound that bad, but after beating the game, this world just feels a bit bland, compared to the others. And that’s because every objective in this world feels the same. You get to a certain point, have to do some 3D-platforming action and collect the time piece. And doing that four times is a bit boring, if you played some of the other levels, which are more exciting and unique. But to end this review with something positive I have to mention the bossfights. The bossfights felt really fresh, since it’s not just the usual “Hit me three times and it is over”. Every boss needs about 10-15 hits to be taken down and they even have multiple phases with different attacks. And in between, there are also cutscenes sometimes, which make the fight even more thrilling.

At the end, A Hat in Time is a charming 3D-platformer with a few flaws here and there, but it still offers a ton of fun. If you want to experience a game, that resembles games like Super Mario Sunshine, this one is a must-play.

A Hat In Time is a collect-a-thon 3D Platformer in which you may traverse large levels (One of which is just dead up open-world) in a similar structure to a little known game called Super Mario 64. By that, I mean that you select a level (or "World", if you will), and then select and objective to do in said level. You run around, do your thing, and leave. And you do this in really any way you like. Now don't get me wrong, there is an "Intended path", but the game really doesn't stop you from sequence breaking. Hell, in some ways it outright encourages it. Ok, now let's get into the nitty-gritty. A Hat In Time follows Hat Kid (Or Hat Girl, if you wanna call her that) on a cute little quest to gather her fuel supply of Time pieces, so that she can get home. Along the way the meets charming character after charming character, each as lovable as the last. She also finds yarn along the way that allows her to whip up new hats with new abilities. Now, I've heard people complain about the story and voice acting being "Too goofy" and... that's bad somehow? A Hat In Time is a goofy and charming game, so the voice acting is too! And you don't really NEED a decent story for a collect-a-thon. all you need is a thing to collect and a reason to collect it. A 3D plat-former typically gives up a solid story for great game play, and A Hat In Time nailed that!
10/10 game totally worth the price! Can't wait for the switch release!

In A Hat in Time, dialogue and writing enhances the game and gives each character a clear personality. The whimsical style of the game is simple and clean, although sometimes gets a bit messy and hard to follow.
Let's talk about the bosses. These bosses are AMAZING. They put up a pretty good fight, getting more difficult with each boss. Each boss (mostly) has their own unique abilities, and normally have several phases to deal with. However, if you die during these bosses, you're forced to start all the way from the beginning. The platforming challenges within the level are fun, but sometimes is repetitive and get frustrating at times.
The story is a bit underdeveloped. It's your classic, "Oh no! I can't get home because I need more power!" that's being used in game after game after game. A Hat in Time uses this story but makes it feel more... empty.

(This isn't as important, but when I tried to complete this game 100%, I realized I needed the Seal the Deal DLC... so If you want to get 100% completion, you need Seal The Deal.)

This game is incredible, it’s awesome to see how much such a small team managed to do! There’s so much content, the levels are quite big and filled with details, there are a lot of different voice actors, and pretty good musics.

The main inspiration of this game is without any doubt Super Mario Sunshine. The level opening is basically copied and pasted from this game, and the Time Rifts are directly referencing the schemes of Sunshine secret levels. Another inspiration is Banjo-Kazooie, and it’s amazing to see that the main theme has been composed by its original composer, Grant Kirkhope himself.

But… I don’t recommend this game. Even though there has been a lot of effort put into it, it’s missing an element which is essential to 3D platformers: the character controls and the ability to traverse the world. In both its main inspirations, the characters were enjoyable to control, especially the master of all: Mario. Take any 3D Mario game, even Mario 64 back in 1996, and just move him around, make him jump, triple-jump, backward somersault, ground-pound, fly… Even without any objective, it’s still fun to play around with this character and explore the worlds.

Then remove all objectives from A Hat in Time. Would Hat Kid still be fun to control? Well… No. First, the moveset is too small. You don’t have many choices on how to control the character, basically move, jump, air-jump and dive.
The “Bonk” when hitting a wall by diving into it is really punitive, and because some platforming phases are not clear enough whether it can be reached by jumping, it can get frustrative really fast when you have to redo a platforming phase just because it wasn’t clear this platform wasn’t reachable.
Also, the homing attack à la Sonic is quite odd to use. It only activates when you’re near enough an enemy, and won’t do anything at all if you’re a bit too far. But while Sonic has a clear visual cue to show when you can attack, Hat Kid is just too slow, so you often can’t afford to wait for this cue to show, so you must guess, and sometimes is doesn’t work and your character just does nothing.
And finally, the different powers of Hat Kid are not available at all times, you have to switch hat to switch powers and get other abilities, either by using a menu, or using a quick-switch button. This is tedious and breaks the flow. It’s too bad they didn’t copy Banjo-Kazooie for this issue, because this game has a lot of different moves, but every move is accessible with 1 or 2 buttons (e.g. Z+C-right).

It’s a really important thing to be able to enjoy a game even if you remove all the objectives, especially in a platform game. Jesse Schell in his book “The Art of Game Design”, says: “A game has to be a toy before being a game.”. Unfortunately, this game lacks the enjoyment of controlling the character in the world.
Add to that some odd camera controls, which you cannot move up and down, and some really too long boss fights, and you have a game that’s not engaging enough to play through.

Everything’s not bad though. I’m not a big fan of the overall humour, but I must admit there were some funny scenes, like the “Murder on Owl Express”, or the interactions with Mustache Girl.
I must also point out that the config screen is marvelous, with a great user interface, and great options for colorblind people and speedrunners. More games should be configurable like this one.

But the game developer saw too big, and wants to give too much content, not polishing enough what has already been made. And it seems to continue on this path, with a new multiplayer mode coming. I really wanted to give a thumb up to such a great project, but I just can’t enjoy it without seeing flaws in what should be the core of the game. I’m still happy though that this game found its public and has a lot of fans, they still deserve it for the hard work they have put into this. But for me, A Hat In Time is not A HIT.

To finish, i think the developers should keep working, and i will be checking their next work, this one was a good start, but not an excellent start.

    Pros:
-The graphics while not groundbreaking or anything are perfect for a game like this. The cutesy animation and the bright colors make the world feel so alive
-The level design is absolutely great. The game is not open world but the levels are so massive you can get lost in collecting all of the interesting doo-hickeys around the map. It's nice to see how much effort the devs put into the levels
-The gameplay (while your basic Mario 64-ish 3d platformer) is done really well. Everything you do is satisfying thanks to the buttery smooth movement and controls.

    Cons:
-Now just like most of these indie games the game is pretty short which hurts the replayability a little bit
-I did run into a couple of bugs and even a game breaking crash.

Despite those small flaws anybody who's a fan of collectathons should get this. It's fun and addictive. Mafia reccomends

Amazing character and world design is vital, and it's what makes the experience a unique one. But being inspired by classics does not mean copying them. The gameplay in these older titles hasn't aged well, and the developers of A Hat In Time understood this, and refined and modernized the gameplay to make it look, feel and play like a 2017 game.

A Hat In Time is the perfect example of how a 3D platformer with inspiration from classics should be done in 2017.

It's a rather short experience, but there's some replay value because the missions are rather enjoyable, and the areas, though small, offer enough freedom to make it worth playing twice. One playthrough will take you about 7 hours. For the asking price, that might seem like a bit lackluster. It would be if the game was unpolished and bland, but it's not. The experience is 7 hours of enjoyment and satisfaction that I will remember for some time.

This game is awesome, its like playing Super Mario 64 but with the current gen technology. I think the only problem its maybe that it's a short game, but its for sure on of the best platformers of the generation. Give it a try, you won't regret it!

The controls are as tight as Super Mario 64's, the look has an amazing Windwaker shading to it and the amount of fun I had playing it was astonishing. The only bad thing I have to say about it is that it is very short. It has overflowing charm and an elegance to how you can move. I remember seeing this game in early alpha on youtube and I just loved how it looked: the cel-shading graphics are one of my favorites of all time - in every game - and I loved the charm it had and how fun it looked to play. Seriously this game already got me hooked on just videos and even Mario Odyssey didn't make me say it.

In short, A Hat in Time it's a collect-a-ton platformer with the similar vibe of Mario 64 and other open world platforms, except with a lot more charm and a funnier character. The first moment I started playing I really fell in love with the hat kid: she's just energetic, fun, and you can see it by just how she looks and acts. In comparison, Mario looks like an old man in a jumpsuit - oh wait...

The levels are well designed and each world has its levels, and they usually try new "settings" that I really enjoy doing them: the first area, Mafia Town, is very open but each level has their own quirk that tends to change the area a bit - for example, the upper area can be or not be available. The second area - dead bird studio - has two different "paths", with one being a parade in a city and the other in a train - complete with mystery murder!

On top of that, the hats and pins give the Kid a lot of variety in her actions and movements and let me also say this: I played it with the keyboard and I NEVER -EVER- felt I was fighting with the controls. Controls are (near) PERFECTION: I never felt that dying or falling off was the game's fault, it was uniquely mine.
If anything, the only issue I had was during wall jumps since the kid tends to jump away a lot of times instead of grabbing the edge but it was something that soon I got used to.

I sincerely never felt this much fun in a platform ever since the days of Jak and Daxter (the first game), or Sly Racoon for the ps2 - or maybe Mario 64 but I'm not a fan of their games. It's varied, it's full of passion, it's comedic, it's creepy (the manor area is very spooky but in a cartoonish way), it's lovely, it's everything that old platforms had and new platforms miss! Even the bad guys are funny and not really cruel at all!

With all that said and done, there's just one thing that turned me off from this game...it's very short! I haven't completed it 100% yet but I'm at 70% and I'm only 9 hours in! It's a lot of fun but I can't stop thinking that this game wasn't fully completed: there are only 5 worlds, very few relics (12, which turns into 4 relics), 11 badges (with 3 being essentially pointless, but fun to have) and only 6 hats, with your main hat essentially never used once! There's even a "weapon" slot but it's permanently fixed by your umbrella, which makes it pointless to even have. And while the only other collect deal is the coins for random rewards, there isn't much else to do once you reach 100% and I'm sure it won't take more than - I dare guess - 15 hours.

But frankly, I don't care: sure I got it as a gift but this game WAS a must have for me and even for the asking price it demands (28 euros / 25 dollars), it's DAMN worth every penny and the fact that it's very well done on pc - again, I used a keyboard, NEVER had issues at all - it just shows how much love and care this game had.

The short duration of the experience is my only gripe but beyond that, it is a must-have.
Especially if you're done playing plumber and needs a diet from all that mushroom pizza and pasta...

PS: I'm italian so the joke is literally on me!

The game's graphics are very pleasant to look at, and its artstyle appears detailess. but as with many games that have proven, they aren't required to have an engine with all the bales and whistles of advanced physics and a weather system to look good. And it's cartoonish look has a one that can withstand the test of time very well. It's difficulty, which besides it's first world that wasn't on par with the others, I would say brought quite a challenge, with segments incorporating either precision platforming or fighting to others segments bringing them both in harmony. The pacing in the game is a little inconsistent, with a couple of levels of the same daunting run of the mill tasks of ''go send all these letters to these dead spirits'' or ''go to all these points in the map to close the lava taps'', but otherwise the game doesn't have plenty of these levels. however, there are other levels which you'd feel really engrossed in them, and would give you quite a satisfaction and a challenge for completing them, that would feel more like an adventure. Of all the five chapters, I found the fourth one ''alpine skyline'' to have kept the game at its highs, with a couple of levels with a very good set of spectacle that fascinated me, and still attaining the quite challenging platforming combined with fighting. In addition, The game's also not lacking in its collectables and hidden levels to find with all the time pieces' wonders. Though, I found the hidden time rifts levels a bit easy, considerably for the type of these levels, which are usually not mandatory in many other platformers and serve rather as a bonus for you. In this game these bonus levels are the hard to find type and not the easy to access ones (e.g super Mario galaxy, and its bonus levels available through the menu). The controls are responsive and precise, and are of the type I've had hoped of a game of this calibre. I liked the route the game took with its storyline, in the way that it doesn't take itself too seriously, with the good dialogues that gave me a good chuckle.

In conclusion, I think the game has done a great job at living up to the classics platformers, and could manage to influence other developers, as a proof that the game's genre is still relevant and fun. A score of 8.3/10 from me

Why do you collect all that? Well, a mafia member broke into your space ship causing everything to be sucked out into space. Your ship was powered by Time Pieces, which also can manipulate the time, making them pretty dangerous.
Their ability makes them a pretty wanted item, and you'll need to fight bosses to get some of them. Boss fights are incredible, with great voice acting (gamespot boooooo) and an absolutely incredible OST - it's one of the best OSTs I have ever heard.

In the end, A Hat In Time features enough charm to overcome its shortcomings. If you can live with the unreliable camera, then you'll find a game that offers a pleasant platforming experience, tons of secrets to uncover, and a good amount of abilities to experiment with. The variety of environments and activities is appreciated, as are some of the breaks from platforming norms. The characters may be the main reason for playing the gamefrom beginning to end, just to see what they'll say or do next. For fans of platformers, A Hat In Time is well worth your time.

A Hat in Time proudly doesn’t shy from showing its inspirations from the 3D platform classics while radiating its own unique personality thanks to charmingly designed worlds (although we could do with a bit more of them!). It is unfortunate then that precise jumping is never as… precise as it should be. Even though it may not hinder the enjoyment by much it is nevertheless a shortcoming in an otherwise especially enjoyable experience.

A great game from a genre that we see so rarely on PC. It’s not too demanding, but it’s pure joy to play, as it’s charming, cheerful, full of stuff to gather and uncover and does a lot to keep you engaged all the time. Not all levels were designed to the same high standard, but even in its weaker moments A Hat in Time is still good. At its best it really shines. [13/2017, p.60]
