This 3D take on the genre classics, as always, features awkward character traversal and a lack of sensitivity to perspective. They have a penchant for overly flashy visuals, resulting in overly long levels and repetitive enemy/boss encounters. The exchanges themselves are dynamic, but it's not enough.

Rushing Beat X: Return of Brawl Brothers delivers a fun and welcoming arcade-style beat'em up experience that goes beyond the nostalgia trip cliché. This new entry fits nicely with the classic 16-bit trilogy, while adding new touches and elements to the gameplay that allow for more variety and experimentation. The series' identity is alive and well, and the co-op multiplayer is a marvel to play, even if on solo the experience can start feeling repetitive too soon.

Rushing Beat X: Return of Brawl Brothers is a great game, almost on the level of Streets of Rage 4, as a beat ’em up that stood out from others in the genre thanks to its beautiful aesthetics and deep mechanics. Sadly, it falls short due to its lack of challenge and dumb AI. Even so, if you’re looking for a beat ’em up among the titles available on Nintendo platforms, this is one of the best on the list.
