The musicians employed rose to the challenge – musically, it's a good game. They wisely handled the random combat throughout the adventure, which can be a problem in JRPGs, but the genre mechanics fall to the level of utter banality, where rhythmic elements aren't as crucial as they should be. The plot is mediocre.

People of Note has a great story about a world that breathes music, but it lacked a better application of the theme in combat: it's much more challenging for the player and easier for the opponents. It's not difficult, but it loses a lot of dynamism because of this, and ends up feeling more like chess than an RPG. Despite everything, its plot and script are quite fun, as is its soundtrack.

People of Note is a kind-hearted RPG with a deep affection for music. Its soundtrack won’t resonate with everyone, but it’s both deeply enjoyable and tight and focused, with a cast of likeable characters whose journey you’ll want to see through.
