    I liked it as a teenager, but its actually very boring. The system how the levels are build is not the classic way how we know it from Yoshis Island on the SNES

    2D platformer with nice visuals but clunky controls and is frankly, not much fun to play. Stick to the Mario games.

    Enjoyable but short, and relatively easy. There are 24 stages but you can only complete 6 of them in a single run. I loved that, like it's predecessor, multiple Yoshis are available, but if one dies, it's gone forever, unless you can bring it back using a power up.

    I might be stupid but I still have no idea what the point of the sniff feature is. I would rate it higher but nothing seemed    Enjoyable but short, and relatively easy.     Spiel aus der Kindheit. Ruck zuck war ich heute durch. Vllt. 1 - 1 1/2h höchstens.

    Ist halt ziemlich einfach gehalten. Aber irgendwie auch ein Klassiker.

    Not the strongest Yoshi platformer, I found Story to be fairly lacking. I can appreciate what it's going for but I just don't think this particular approach is as effective as the classic Yoshi formula.

    I’ve played Yoshi’s story on the Wii and an emulator and it was really fun and a good Yoshi game on a 3D platforming system back in March of 1998

    if you have children, this is a really good game, and the short game length is because the main gimmick of the game is the exploration and replaying the game to find the secret stuff and play the other levels.

Originally, Yoshi’s Story was meant to be a continuation of the Yoshi’s Island formula and instead evolved into a game more centered on exploration and ease of play. There’s no time limit to complete a stage, no baby Mario to protectYoshi’s Story is what happens when you take a bunch of candy and mold it into a video game. It’s sweet, colorful and gives you diabetes just looking at it. Originally, Yoshi’s Story was meant to be a continuation of the Yoshi’s Island formula and instead evolved into a game more centered on exploration and ease of play. There’s no time limit to complete a stage, no baby Mario to protect and not too much by the way of collectibles for completion. In some cases, this would be considered a detriment, but in this case I think it works. Yoshi’s Story is clearly aimed at a much younger demographic, but at the same time the game doesn’t insult their intelligence. The game is very simple, but there’s enough little nuances to make it a worthwhile Yoshi game.

    The premise is basic. Baby Bowser is a d***, steals the Yoshi’s happy tree, and now a handful of them have to get it back. There are six worlds to traverse through with four stages within them to choose from. Each stage has a number signifying their difficulty. Your goal in every stage is collect 30 pieces of fruit. Nothing more to it. If you just collect the first 30 fruit that you set your adorable little eyes on, a single playthrough would take you less than an hour. It’s incredibly basic at its core, making it easy for kids to pick up and just start playing, but there is more to it than that. The Yoshis themselves, for example, are color coded. Their color tells you what kind of fruit they prefer. If it’s a purple Yoshi, they prefer grapes, yellow Yoshi likes bananas, etc. Having the Yoshis eat their favorite fruit not only has more health value, but it also earns you a higher score. However, the biggest challenge you can attempt in this game is to grab 30 Melons. Melons are universally loved by Yoshis, and they will give you the best score by the end. They are certainly much trickier to get, and some can only be obtained on a single go so if you are up for some exploration, try to nab them in each stage. The game can be as simple or as challenging as you want it to be. However, there are also a few boss battles sprinkled in, but they are very inconsequential and probably the most insultingly easy part of the game.

    Exploration is the biggest factor to Yoshi’s Story in place of raw platforming, and it’s certainly the most rewarding part of the game. You are not only on the hunt for those elusive melons, but there are a few other collectables to keep an eye out on. In each stage are two special hearts. You’ll need to collect these in order to unlock new stages in the game. There are also two hidden eggs in the game, a black egg and a white egg. Finishing the stage with them unlock both the black and white Yoshi, both of which love all fruit varieties. Even if there isn’t as much focus on platforming this time around, it’s still fun to explore these stages simply due to the game feel and the adorable aesthetics. The Yoshis control beautifully and the game’s visuals have held up incredibly well. It’s super bright and colorful, and I really dig the storybook concept they were going for. The music is surprisingly solid, using the general main theme of the game as a leitmotif for the soundtrack, remixing it into various musical styles.

    So no, Yoshi’s Story isn’t going to be for everyone, and if you were a big fan of Yoshi’s Island you may be disappointed. Personally, I think it’s a really solid kids game that does offers just enough substance to make it a worthwhile playthrough.    … Expand

There were expectations for this game to be more fulfilling. not only that, but other titles like mischief Makers simply did 2D better on the N64, with more content and more engaging gameplay. Overall, rent/ask a    +Sweet aesthetics.

    Although this game has a good run the title didn't fix the game I wish Nintendo stuck with Yoshi's Island 64 instead of Yoshi's story

    The graphics at that time were unique and had a more kid friendly tone to a 2-D platformer compared to Mario games. The use of eggs as weapons brought a twist compared to traditional platformer at that time and felt at some times like a 2-D side shooter. Good story and good game mechanics (especially with Yoshi's flutter jump you have a wide margin of error without failing).

    I was bored so I bought this at long last - on Wii U Virtual Console. I've been a fan of Yoshi's Island since I got it on SNES when it came out, and still play it occasionally. I also have enjoyed Yoshi's Island's sequels on DS and 3DS, and quite liked Yoshi's Woolly World.

    Levels are linear and dull, with illusions of multiple paths. The design is based around Yoshi's Island, but again lacks the charm, and the finesse of design. Fruits around the levels are collected from where they lay, or found in bubbles or dropped by enemies. Collecting enough pieces of fruit ends the level. That's it.

    So so so boring, ugly, and irritating to hear. A shame, because Yoshi has starred in some excellent platformers.    … Expand

    This is a game that doesn't care if it doesn't have 100% 64 bit graphics it cares if it is good and it is. Well the game is a bit boring everything else is gold.

    Yoshi's Story may look cute and pretty to look at, but there isn't enough worlds for us to counter. 24 levels in 6 worlds isn't enough. It just needs two more worlds to complete it.

Being a 2D-platformer in a console generation with 3D in mind, this game tries to make up for the missing dimension byAn often over-looked title on the Nintendo 64, Yoshi's Story would be the last 2D-platformer (sort of) to be made by Nintendo for a long time. It resembles Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island in many ways, with the big-snouted dinosaurs serving as the game's protagonists. Being a 2D-platformer in a console generation with 3D in mind, this game tries to make up for the missing dimension by having some of the levels resemble a Metroid-ish maze, but it rarely works out all that well. Rather than having a flagpole, a bar or anything like that to finish the level, in Yoshi's Story you have to collect fruit in order to advance through the game. At first this seems like a fresh breath of air, but frantically searching through the entire level in hopes of finding the last watermelon or banana gets old really fast. That said, the game's graphics are absolutely adorable and so is the music. The contemporary Super Mario 64 is a much stronger pick, and so are the two Super Mario World titles, but Yoshi's Story has a certain nostalgic value attached to it, nonetheless.… Expand

    I really did like Yoshi's Island, but even at 14 this game was just too childish and the music was seriously stuff you'd hear in a nursery. I will admit though for a much younger Yoshi fan this game actually is somewhat fun to play, but I got terribly annoyed with most of the levels

    Yoshi's Story is an amazing game, it is sweet and short, fans of all ages both Mario and video game fans will surely enjoy this cute and classic game. The game's amazing soundtrack, beautiful original visuals and great gameplay will capture your interest in playing this game for many years to come.

    Nice plat forming, solid. While it has some cool concepts it isn't the greatest classic tittle for the 64 compared to big successful games like Super Mario and Zelda, But at least manages to be fun.

    Simple, unadulterated platforming goodness the likes of which only Nintendo seems to produce. And Kamura Y. if you were really a Yoshi fan, you wouldn't be calling this game childish. Apparently you missed the point.

    Mischief Makers dropped some hints about what the N64 can do in 2-D, but Yoshi's Story pushes the boat out so far it''s run ashore on the other side ... but once you've got past the initial sense of ''ahh, isn''t that sweet'' it doesn''t take long before all that sugar rots your teeth and sets your stomach a-churning.

    Where most titles stress the importance in challenge in completing a level, Yoshi's Story emphasizes challenge in exploration--something rarely done in two-dimensional games. While Yoshi's Story isn't Yoshi's Island II, it is another shining example of simple, unadulterated entertainment in gaming.
