As a fan of the series is hard to decide which Mario Party is my favorite, but Mario Party 3 may very well be it. The reason? I absolutely adore playing this game with friends when the chance finally comes around. Theres simply no better game in my mind to play with people(known or not), than Mario Party, and this 3rd installment solidifies on the fundamentals the series was build upon squishing every bit of the unique pleasure the series is known to provide. Armistices, betrayal, revenge, all is here and pushed to maximum heights. This is one N64 game I have not been able to let go, for its memorable boards, minigames, music, and overall joy when played with 3 other people! One of my favorite multiplayer games for sure! Expand

After playing this game, I felt... well, cheated, annoyed and 100% ticked off. I was hoping for an updated version that was better than the first two. Well, thank god I didn't BUY this game. The first one was fun, and had excellent music, the second one was fun, had excellent music, and was adventurous. The third one was none of these. What a disgrace to nintendo.

[OBJECTIVE QUALITY REVIEW] For a Mario Party game closing out and concluding their N64 era and their original trilogy, it fits perfectly as the best in the trilogy itself and the series then. Although 2 DOES remain the best out of the trilogy, at the time 3 was it's high point in the trilogy and the series itself, when N64 was on its way out but was still king in those and all regards.

The character selection is easily one of the best, with Princess Daisy and Waluigi making starring appearances - adding on to an already awesome character-set predefined in the beginning - and making for a perfect conclusion to the original trilogy character formula.

The graphics have obviously been greatly improved on, as well as the soundtrack. It's much more memorable than the previous two, and some of them, especially on some boards, have theming that is quite unique to the Mario franchise as a whole and was rarely IF EVER seen again.

The minigames suit both casuals and hardcores both perfectly well, both even more so than the previous two. Even hardcores may find the more casual games a relaxing break from their hectic play and therefore should not be considered a turnoff, although it cannot be denied that some players may be turned off by it.

The boards are easily some of the most memorable in the entire franchise and particularly this original trilogy. Some theming, such as pack camels, Christmas, the 'No Step On Thin Ice' sign in the Chilly Waters board, and the Creepy Cavern board in general, is nothing to be forgetful about, and really adds a great deal of flair to the graphical design and game of the series as well.

That said, sadly, it DOES suffer from some of the usual problems when it comes to Mario Party across all games. First, there's the impression that players are punished for playing well, and those that play 'poorly' are often, if not always, rewarded. That's not to say that this has considerable merit, much less entirely true. The minigames STILL allow for some sufficient play, but overall remains generally casual, which as aforementioned can still turn off hardcore players. Also, going back to the usual Mario Party problems, they're MUCH MORE suppressed in this title this time around - they're MUCH better than what would and was usually the case. However, it still DOES exist somewhat at the VERY least.

Overall, very nice, positive game. Virtually no problems with it outside of the usual, and everything - the graphics, the soundtrack, the boards, the minigames, the hub areas; you name it - has AT LEAST some memorability to it. Unfortunately, it does suffer from some of the same problems Mario Party usually has, but are much less so than the usual algorithm it has to sit on.

The beginning of Mario Party was the best, and than it started to get boring, and the minigames were all the same, and they came up with some bad ideas...but this is the most different mario party of all, and i really liked it. Mario Party 2 is still a little better than this one, but this mario party's era was awesome!

I was hoping to love this one, but once again it falls into the category of the mixed bag. Mario Party 3, like other games, are still enjoyable to play, but lacks the real joy from the original game that inspired this game and the franchise itself.

MP3 is the last entry on the N64 before Nintendo made their way to the GCN. They really went out with a bang with this MP. The boards are really enjoyable to play on. There have been many debates over which of the three N64 Mario Parties is the best one, and I would pick this version. There are six boards to choose from, and while they’re a bit of a step down from the previous title, we still have some gems like Woody Woods, Waluigi’s Island, and more. On top of that, there is a duel mode with six more boards, where there’s only two people, no minigames, and the objective is to attack the other player rather than collect coins and stars. This worked as a side mode and it did the job… unlike later instalments where the side mode is the MAIN mode. Items return from the previous game with even more options. One example is the reverse mushroom that allows you to move backwards, which was such a cool idea that they never used since. The minigames are all great with the exception of MPIQ which was just horribly executed, but games like Eatsa Pizza make up for it! This was the first game in the series to include a fully fleshed out story mode, where you play as one character and navigate through every board, beating your opponents and earning stamps from the millennium star. Mario Party 3 includes just about everything that makes Mario Party amazing, and it’s in my Top 3 games from this franchise! Expand

So the story in Mario Party games usually aren't the greatest, but Mario Party 3's story is just... bad. It starts of with the Milennium Star (get it? because this game released in the year 2000 and you collect stars? heh heh.) that turns out to be bad and stuff and on the way you experience OK boards but the minigames, oh, the minigames. I don't think there's a single minigame in Mario Party 3 I shall ever want to come back too. Well, yeah, Rockin' Raceway is fine but it's controls are way out of hand and most of the minigames and especially the boards are just so, so tedious in single player. Yes, I know you could say that about 17 Mario Parties (not Star Rush) but in this one it's especially soul-draning. They tried to make the single player mode worthwhile but ended up hindering too much that this just feels like Mario Party 2's annoying teenage cousin. However, for some reason by making the single-player suck, this game actually has the BEST multiplayer in any of the N64 Mario Parties! Just because of that the bad boards and fine minigames don't even matter anymore! And you know the story I whined about before is actually bursting with charm, most notably Daisy slapping Bowser into the hot, melty atmosphere of the Sun's core. Ahh. Overall, Mario Party 3 is undoubtedly the worst on the N64, by no means is it bad, if you play it in the right mindset and way.
