    I actually enjoyed the game a lot but it was too glitchy and keeps running out of memory and crashing so I can't actually progress anymore :(

    For a console that is seemingly unfriendly towards RPGs, Aidyn Chronicles sure is a meaty RPG. This was one of the first games I've ever played that had deep complex RPG mechanics such as leveling up non-combat skills lock-picking, and Alchemy. For the longest time I never really knew how to play Aidyn Chronicles and I never beaten it and I don't think I ever will. But I have a lot ofFor a console that is seemingly unfriendly towards RPGs, Aidyn Chronicles sure is a meaty RPG.     This is the worst RPG ever. The only reason I played through it was because it was so stupid it was funny. It wasn't even worth the five bucks I spent on it aside from laughing at it.

The whole game is focused around then main character getting poisoned, and every person he runs to sends him on a mini quest to seek out someone who can else help him, who in turn can't This game just sucks. After awhile you get so annoyed you just end up wishing he'd just go ahead and die. The speed that the poison takes affect is so slow, you start to wonder if he was even poisoned at all. Combat is horrible. The inabilty to revive a dead character is not really as annoying as combat in general. Sometimes you can't get a swing at an enemy much less a decent hit for a bunch of turns. And each battle is so slow. It'd be okay if there weren't hundreds of people to fight. Another thing is the sound. There's hardly any background noise or music, but when a character dies it makes a horribly loud deah screech which is not necessary at all. The graphics are so bad sometimes I couldn't tell what was what. Anyway, if you're an RPG-er who'd like a laugh and have time to blow, I'd definitely recommend this game to you, if you can borrow it from someone. Just don't spend money on it.… Expand

    This game really needed to wait for the Gamecube, simple as that. Clunky controls, bad graphics, even the textures, Nintendo's saving grace with their systems, seem low res and chunky. Switching the game to "hi-res" mode with an expansion pack does nothing aside from lowering the already low FPS to levels so low as to be ridiculous. Not to mention that mere months before release they This game really needed to wait for the Gamecube, simple as that.     i hate reading all the negative comments floating about concerning this game.. the n64 only has soomuch potential.. you have to consider, this game is huge, theres alot of dialoge, and theres manny items, weapons, and different types of monsters to fight. the game play and story is alittle slow and drawn out at first.. which is probably why it gets a bad reputation.. players who are used i hate reading all the negative comments floating about concerning this game.. the n64 only has soomuch potential.. you have to consider, this game is huge, theres alot of dialoge, and theres manny items, weapons, and different types of monsters to fight. the game play and story is alittle slow and drawn out at first.. which is probably why it gets a bad reputation.. players who are used to zelda and others are spoiled by pretty visuals.. those games are nice and crisp looking.. where aidyn is a bit muddy and has a blended look to it.. however there is alot to make up for it.. the storylike is amazing.. the people who say it sucks and doesent draw you in, must not know how to take there time and read or something.. there is alot in this game that makes it unique and worth playing.. other games such as final fantasy dont compare to this game.. i personally got verry annoyed with the cutscenes and music in the line of ff games.. the legend of zelda was great though.. this game is turned based.. and they have done a fantastic job of balancing everything out.. the music here has a deep and natural feel to it.. theres no techno, or modern musical sounds.. it all fits.. the music sounds natural in the sence that theres drums,, chanting, flutes and other sounds.. instead of the gutar, and other sounds.. another way to sum up just how this game feels.. its not a happy jump around and dance game.. its a game for deep meaningfull intellegent people who have the time to appreciate something.. if you are a fan of games where you rent it and beat it in a night or two games.. you will be sadly dissapointed.. i am a verry experienced Zelda OOT player and aidyn player.. oot takes me about 2 days to beat.. aidyn takes about 4... if it was your 1st time playing OOT id say it would take about a week.. so doubble that for aidyn :D to sum up how i feel.. this game is the best singleplayer game for n64. as a little tip.. try this game on emulators if you can.. it looks much better and cleaner on computer.. you can enable aa and af.. and you get better framerates. there is no gamepack corruption.. so takeaway all the bugs and flaws.. if you can emulate it.. u… Expand

    This game is great, the battles were a little too long at first but after you get your dexterity up it goes much faster, the people who made this game knew there way around fantasy, some people are saying that there's not many secrets to find in the world of aidyn,they are not looking hard enough because i found many.i think this game is made for people with soul.

    This was the first RPG video game I played and fell in love with it. Great storyline--(who wrote the script?) great imagination and execution. If I had to change anything would be I'd like to have had voice talent preferably from a British Cast. The graphics were simple but effective as were the music and sound effects. This is a nugget of a game that will grow on you like a classic. Enjoy!

    Hmmm..... I thought this was a great game, with a few exceptions. I loved how large the game was and the fact that I could explore the vast lands in the game. The only thing that I really couldn't stand about this game was that once one of the characters were killed, they didn't come back. I also appreciated the combat system, which was a refreshing change from standing in a line and attacking. This system made me think at least a little bit. I think that newbie RPGers who can't get past the horrible graphics and sound and missing out on a great RPG, maybe my favorite RPG behind FF7 and FF9. This could have been an immensely popular title if THQ had waited a little longer and tweaked the sound and graphics of the game. Too bad. I thought this was an overall great game.… Expand

Though Aidyn Chronicles may be slow paced to some, anyone who has played, ACTUALLY played a D&D game would understand that RPG's by definitine are slow, and boring to all you sugar-poppies. The soundtrack was strange enough to promote the same ambiance I am a hardcore gamer, having played nearly every game known to human kind, I would have to say those top mags are full of "stuff". Though Aidyn Chronicles may be slow paced to some, anyone who has played, ACTUALLY played a D&D game would understand that RPG's by definitine are slow, and boring to all you sugar-poppies. I would have given this game a 10, but the game lost fraction points for HIGH RES problems, but the game is still very good in low res. The best part of the game is the lengthy, but intellegent battle systems. The worst part is I haven't figured out how to revive character (without a gameshark of course)… Expand

    Ok to sum it all up dont play this game if you are the type of gamer who likes fast paced games but if you have time on you're hands GET THIS GAME!!! i am in love with this game it is my favroite game i even have dreams about playing this game i even bought 2 copy's just incase i lost 1 or something happend to one GET THIS!!!!

    This Is One Of the Best Games Ever . the world is the BIGGEST one i have ever seen in any game and the music is really great. i really love that you can choose about 13 palyable chararters and that you can train them however you whant. i also love the great storyline .     Pros: Immersive world that is huge! It also contains plenty of hidden secrets, which are very well hidden. Every aspect of the character can be customized. Dialogue fits each character. Slow but fun combat system. The world itself is gorgeous. After reading reviews like those above from users from various game sites, I thought this game would be fantastic. This is sadly not the case, if anything the gameplay is boringly slow. The trudging over this "massive" world is more tedious than fun when compared to other massive games.     I like this game. I think they could have improved it by making more music, enhancing the graphics, not making it so challanging, and improving the battle scenes. I really like this game except for the poor graphics and the game challenge level.

    This game is horrible. The graphics are primitive and the layout is frustrating. Battle is extremely slow and time consuming. Just a little more thought could have improved the poor battle layout.

It is also VERY unique as far as storyline and gameplay go. There isn't a game like it. Its too bad that the big critics gave it such a bad rap. I love the game and would like to see a remake. It's a bit glitchy, blocky, and leaves you wondering what you're actually supposed to be doing. You're darn right it is. However, I believe the various gameplay elements are very enjoyable.
    First of all, the battle system is unique-ish as it is similar to Quest 64 but, to my knowledge, doesn't get broken with as little as a single spell. Anyway, it's kind of like a non-random battle tactical rpg just without the square blocks.
    The skills you can gain are... kind of esoteric; they explain the basics but not how well they do (or don't) work in practice. Nevertheless, I enjoy the mechanic where you can either spend all of your exp/money/points/etc. to upgrade a high level skill/spell or level up multiple lower level skills/spells/attributes. Again, personal opinion.
    My biggest issue with the game is "where the hell am I supposed to be going now?" I have wandered off the correct path many a time only to get waylaid by MUCH stronger enemies. Incidentally, be wary of saving in certain areas because you could very well get stuck (another issue). Having said that, though, not knowing where you're going can lead you to some interesting items.

    All in all, it's glitchy, has an interesting battle/level up mechanic, is confusing at times, and has an early example of an open world with goodies hidden hither, thither and yon.
    Addendum: I would love to see a remake with upgraded polygons and the glitches removed :D (Although a unicorn charging through my front door is just as likely)    … Expand

    So much hate for a great 64 game had to give it some love, Are there problems with this game hell yes, but that doesn't hurt this game at all its all part of the charm of the old games. Great RPG and a massive scale for 2001

There is a ton of content, the main quest took me over 50 hous and the story gets quite complex. There are a lot of characters and you need to earn them onto your team overtime. The combat also had quite a few spell options and weapons. I think in a lot of ways this game was ahead of its time. It failed in many of its ambitions but to me it was still better than a lot of the games of its time because it had a lot of depth. I would prefer a game that tries to achieve a lot and falls short than a game that just does the bare minimum with a good presentation.

    The gameplay itself was actually pretty good, it was one of the most open RPGs of its time. Unlike most rpgs back then there are no random encounters, you can see and avoid enemies in the field which was super rare back then. This made it way better for traveling around the map. Combat was also a mix of turn based and free movement during your turn. This added a fair amount of strategy to combat because you had to move your characters around the battlefield as you fought. Sometimes you needed to get in range to use your powerful physical attacks while other times you would want to keep your distance and rely on long range spells. Spells also had area effects. As your stats improved you could also increase your area of movement. This system added much more diversity and strategy compared to most rpgs where your characters stand in a line. A characters class has a lot of impact on how they move and what types of situations they are good for. The menu systems were simple but offered a decent number of options. Its not the most polished RPG gameplay but it is unique and offered more meaningful options than most.

    The story starts off quite simplistic but as the game progresses it gets gradually more complex. One thing I really like is that each area you visit has different problems, there really is a sense that the world is big and that each race you meet has a unique culture. The Dryad forest for instance was totally different from the city of Gnomes which is built into a mountain. There are also multiple villains with differing motives, it isn't just as simple as their being one basic dark lord. The villains you face also escalate in a natural way making you feel like you are growing in power based on the problems you solve. On the island of chaos you can fight an enemy who is way above your level and it is possible to defeat him there, if you don't though you get to fight him near the end. The idea of the main character having his soul outside of his body is pretty interesting. It could have been handled better but overall I found the story more inventive most other games. It's not on the level of most Final Fantasy games or Bioware games but its still a pretty good story that is definitely unique and ambitious.

    The world is huge and unlike most RPGs there is no hub world, each area is fully modeled and the distances between them you travel like normal. A lot of the areas are bland and you could certainly argue that the spaces were too empty but one thing I liked about the big spaces was that it actually made travel feel significant. It actually felt like a real journey traveling from one settlement to the next. While there are a lot of dead ends and empty spaces there are also a lot of secrets and some really satisfying moments come from going back to areas that were inaccessible early in the game to discover things that you missed.

    There are a lot of characters in your party and one thing that I really liked is that you have to convince them to join you. This doesn't happen in a linear way, you need to use trial and error to convince your party members to join you. Another thing I like is that you can build the relationship with your party members through conversation and choices in cut scenes that trigger as you journey. One thing that is a bit frustrating is that you can miss some of those interactions. Also the game doesn't hold your hand, you need to determine what conversation choices work by testing them out. It isn't as good as something like Jade Empire or Dragon Age: Origins, but this game came out several years earlier.

    Presentation is clearly not this games strong point. The visuals are far from great, even for its time. Character models have little to no appeal and environments are often bland. I do give the game credit for some of its monster designs though. Compared to JRPGs of that era which had spinning wheels and bouncing blobs, this game at least has monsters that seem fairly menacing.

    There is a good game beneath its muddled exterior.

    An attempt at a 3D version of SNES style RPGs, Aidyn Chronicles manages to get pretty much everything wrong. Ugly, slow, unnecessarily fiddly and a total chore to play.
