Touchgrind BMX is the perfect storm of gameplay, visuals and features that make those without an iDevice green with envy; whether you play it for casual fun or try to conquer its hardcore challenges, you're guaranteed to spend a lot of time with this game.

Illusion Labs has taken the concept of multi-touch manipulation of an object to the next level, and has fleshed out a great gaming experience around it. It takes a lot of practice for the controls to click, but that process is also part of the fun.

Has enough in that expertly-pitched control system to keep you replaying the same courses over and over, relaxing into a groove before smashing through the score barrier on one perfect run. It's an iPhone game you'll come back to for the controls alone – and that's not something you can't say every day.

A nifty little time-waster with some very impressive graphics (and the game runs beautifully on a 3G, for a change!).

Touchgrind BMX is both frustrating for its unforgiving mechanics and rewarding when you finally get the tricks done right: in any case, it's definitely not the pick-up-and-play game you'd expect to find on an iPhone.

Touchgrind BMX is fast, addictive and enjoyable to play. Sadly, a crushing lack of tricks and some serious control and camera frustrations hold it back from being an essential ride.

Sadly, however, Touchgrind BMX is a game that, though clearly designed for touchscreen controls, is simply too big for iPhone's boots. It's hard to escape the feeling that play is made up of a series of compromises, and for a game with such big ambitions, that's a trick no-one was looking to see pulled off.
