Star Legends struck me as stylistically bland in the first twenty minutes of gameplay but I was quickly pulled in with bite-sized missions, exciting visuals from skills, enemies, and equipment, and a tongue-in-cheek script - all fostered by the most advertised feature: extremely easy accessibility on iOS, Android, and Chrome. Now my frustration: at times, Star Legends feels incomplete.Star Legends struck me as stylistically bland in the first twenty minutes of gameplay but I was quickly pulled in with bite-sized missions, exciting visuals from skills, enemies, and equipment, and a tongue-in-cheek script - all fostered by the most advertised feature: extremely easy accessibility on iOS, Android, and Chrome. Now my frustration: at times, Star Legends feels incomplete. There is no lack of equipment, missions (for levels 1-20, that I've seen), or a script, but features that I associate with a fluid MMO experience are missing and the platform failed to provide an easy-to-use group-play system. Guild functionality provides a solution for creating an in-game community, but there was no effective way to bridge the gap with friends in real life. For example, a friend and I tried to jump to missions together, but there was no way to guarantee we'd load in the same instance of a mission* and no way to have a private conversation. Similarly, I can't form a static party static with random players that I meet online. The lack of a simple party system also indicates a whole galaxy left unexplored by Star Legends: addons and high-resolution texture packs. For an MMO on the computer Star Legends is sparse and could benefit from optional texture packs to increase the look and appeal and from addons to smooth the gameplay experience (although I consider a simple and effective group-play system essential and not to be left to addons). Star Legends is good, but it lacks the features of mature MMORPGs. The quick access and art and gameplay earn it a solid 8 and the lack of features isn't so egregious to warrant less. Expand

The bottom line is that Star Legends: Black Star Chronicles is an extremely well designed mobile MMO (well, CORPG) experience that has great game play designed for short gameplay bursts. Try it on your next bus ride, you might like what you find!

Star Legends is as much a feat of technical impressiveness as it also successful as a casual MMORPG experience. This is a genre that is teeming with potential, but thanks in part to games just wanting to directly copy World of Warcraft, has become stale, and overly demanding of players.
