    I have every faith in Chillingo making the multiplayer into something that doesn't induce rage, but right now I'd rather avoid it. Thankfully the singleplayer portion of Spice Invaders is more than enough to satisfy. Barring the occasional ad there's hardly any way of knowing that this is a free-to-play game. I think that alone speaks volumes.

    A charming and audacious re-imagining of the tower defence genre. But the pitching for in-app purchases is too obtrusive to be fair.

    I have no problem with encouraging players to spend some cash on premium items that are not necessary for normal gameplay. The restrictions in Spice Invaders do not fit that example, especially since all these design choices are solely made to encourage folks to spend money (rather than designs that encourage fun).

    It does, however, incorporate some great multiplayer features we rarely see on the platform, and the free-to-play model is a fair compromise. If you haven't yet overdosed on defending your bases from automated hordes, Spice Invaders is well worth checking out.
