    I Just See Sonic CD As a 7.8 Wacky Workbench Wasn't Too Good. The Level Design Wasn't Great.
    And The Bosses Are Way Too Easy Except The Metal Sonic And Final Boss I Really Feel Like Stardust Speedway, Plamtree Panic, Collison Chaos And the 4th stage Ae the only good Zones And 6th Special Stage is really hard Too I Guess the new "I'm Outta Here" Is Cool So As The Peelout but That's about it

    It is my favorite Sonic game of all time and doesnt deserve its hate.
    People hate this game because of its "confusing level design", but the level design is not confusing, its simply... OPEN! its like an open zone game, you can explore the zones to all your hearts' contents and get the good ending in a    I dont f*****g care what anyone says about this game, I love this game to death.

    I think this game is getting hate because people that have tried this game, have played the other classic sonic games before which are automatic as hell, this is the least automatic game of the bunch, if played the intended way.

    Sonic CD es un titulo de Sonic peculiar y diferente, pero en el buen sentido, algunas cosas y decisiones fueron extrañisimas, pero fueron bien implementadas, los escenarios son muy originales y atractivos, y el hecho de que la estética de los escenarios cambie dependiendo si estas en el futuro o en el pasado hace que tengan mucha variedad, las fases especiales son de las mejores de la sagaSonic CD es un titulo de Sonic peculiar y diferente, pero en el buen sentido, algunas cosas y decisiones fueron extrañisimas, pero fueron bien implementadas, los escenarios son muy originales y atractivos, y el hecho de que la estética de los escenarios cambie dependiendo si estas en el futuro o en el pasado hace que tengan mucha variedad, las fases especiales son de las mejores de la saga clásica (solo por detrás de as fases especiales de Sonic 3), el soundtrack es tan esplendido sea la versión que escuches, sea la versión japonesa o americana, la intro animada también es preciosa, el apartado artístico de este juego es genial.
    Lo malo de este juego es que los jefes son una burla, después del primer jefe pensé que los siguientes si serian un reto, pero esa baja dificultad se sigue manteniendo vigente en los siguientes jefes.
    Fuera de este pequeño problema, el resto del juego es disfrutable, te llevaras una buena experiencia jugando Sonic CD.    … Expand

    I love the blue blur, but this game was pure hell. I've never understood how to time travel and the special stages were the end of me. Unfortunately I didn't had fun while playing it.

    The REAL Sonic 2, Sonic CD takes everything that made Sonic 1 work and expanded it. A wonderful Japanese soundtrack, level design that stays consistently challenging and encourages exploration instead of speed, and the introduction of the instantly iconic Metal Sonic. Sonic 1 and CD are on equal terms, and a must-play for Classic fans.

The game is no longer a hidden gem, and people with taste and a brain are waking up and realizing that this game a jumbled mess of a sonic game that just feels like one big bonus stage. If you want classic sonic go play some Sonic 3 & Knuckles, and If you want a easily accessible Sonic game play Sonic Manaia. Christian Whitehead added great features to this port, but he could not save it, no one can. I hope he remasters Sonic 3 & Knuckles and actually good Sonic game. Of Course these user reviews are plagued by brainless kids who give really no reason why this game is a "classic."     For a mobile port, this is very polished. With all the modes, a save function, and most importantly being able to play this game on a phone without any emulators.

    I just finished Sonic CD on Android. I have been a huge Sonic fan ever since I was four years old. I had been wanting to play this game for quite some time, but I have a migraine problem because of which I am unable to play mobile games which have a virtual gamepad. I did manage to beat this game with a bad ending, and although my head hurt a lot, I am now proud to say that I have played every single classic Sonic game in existence.
    This game is probably the only evidence that Sonic is faster than The Flash, as we need to build up speed if we have to travel to the past or future. It is a bit difficult though, since there are so many obstacles coming in your way when you are on higher levels. One thing I really find annoying in classic Sonic games is that the game wants us to run fast, and then punishes us for doing the same. The touchscreen of the phone was also very unresponsive and that caused me to lose unnecessarily more number of times than I'd be willing to admit.
    Sonic CD is something of a case study for SEGA developers. It does not have any customisable characters, or even a lot of characters for that matter. It introduced two characters who have now become a major part of Sonic's lore. The cutscenes, the quality - everything about this game is perfect. If you're new to Sonic the Hedgehog, I'd recommend you to definitely try it once.    … Expand

    I don’t mind a lot of the classic/original Sonic the Hedgehog games, but this one is way too fun! I’ve only played the full game on iOS, and it’s too fun! I love the gameplay, the choices in gameplay, the future and past selections, and poor little Amy getting stanched away in the second stage. I recommend this game for everyone!

    I don’t like it but that doesn’t mean you don’t need to try it. Sonic CD is free on mobile so you might as well try it out. Mobile does have some pretty bad controls though, you can’t move the buttons and controls around so if you have big fingers it can get very annoying with sonic sometimes doing something you don’t want. In my opinion Sonic CD is a mishmash of really good ideas putI don’t like it but that doesn’t mean you don’t need to try it. Sonic CD is free on mobile so you might as well try it out.     Made me apreciate Sonic cd in a way i never knew i could. Yeah the level desing it's still hit and miss, but the aesthethic, the controls, the music and the wonderfull desing make for a really fun game. **** the special stages tho.

    There really is no better way to play this great game, especially considering how limited it is elsewhere, an the fact it was on the Sega CD... but besides that! Sonic CD is one of Sonic's greatest adventures, and its all redone masterfully in this port, the wonderful FMV can finally look awesome and not crappy, you can choose between the two soundtracks existing for whatever reason (IThere really is no better way to play this great game, especially considering how limited it is elsewhere, an the fact it was on the Sega CD... but besides that! Sonic CD is one of Sonic's greatest adventures, and its all redone masterfully in this port, the wonderful FMV can finally look awesome and not crappy, you can choose between the two soundtracks existing for whatever reason (I prefer the JP soundtrack personally). The game also uses the spindash from the Genesis games so it's less crappy..The game looks even better than the classic Genesis games, each world is memorable and vibrant, and the music is by far one of the series best ever, the JP version at least. It's definitely deserving of a listen, the music is upbeat and insanely full of hype, fitting the extreme speed of the game. The levels are pretty sprawling and have many pathways, they are kind of huge mazes, and the level design isn't nearly as good as the first two games, although I don't really mind it at all. It allows the levels to be played over and over in new ways, which I often do. It's addicting, but in an actual good and fun way compared to other iOS games. Everything works great on the phone using the only two buttons needed. The only downside of these big levels are some springs and other things bouncing you all over the place and taking forever to actually get control of Sonic again. The game is the only one with the Super Peel-Out, aka the figure 8 feet. It's more useful than the spin dash as enemies are less frequent and when they are around killing them is usually in odd ways, and speed is needed badly to navigate the areas. The bosses could be better, the ones in the other games are very intuitive and unique and the ideas of some of these are interesting, including, the bubble, pinball, and treadmill ones, but they're all pretty pathetic. Despite its few issues, Sonic CD is one of the best Sonic games ever, lots of it is memorable and its extremely replayable. It's free on iOS, so grab it!… Expand

    i love sonic the hedgehog so much, and Sonic CD for the Sega Genesis is one of, if not the best, sonic games of all time. On IOS the touch screen is sometimes unresponsive, but that's definitely not enough for me to not call this game a masterpiece.

Time traveling now comes into play with Sonic CD, as Sonic comes to save Amy Rose and Little Planet from... you know it.... Doctor Robotnik and Metal Sonic. Usual special stages, different time lines can call in different levels in the same world, and bosses which normally bring in action. Not to also mention the unforgettable soundtrack (there's two different soundtracks: US and JPN/PAL. Choose whatever suits you... unless you want them to be both which I suggest you mix whatever you love to be in those levels). It's best to play it on the original Sega CD than the iOS, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360, but whatever contains them, the iOS is probably the best port out of those ports of Sonic CD available to play and review. Now since it's on iOS and no longer just on the Sega CD, you can play this game anywhere you go for just $2.99 ($3 rounded) and that's definitely cheap for such a game like this.… Expand

    sonic CD for IOS is by far the best 2d sonic game. great grapgics for a 1993 sega CD game, wonderful soundtrack, fantastic level design, tight controls especially the sonic 2 spin dash which was added to this remastered IOS version, better frame rate in the stages and MUCH better frame rate at the 3d special stages, great new time attack mode, the option to play as tails. just perfect 10/10.

    Although Sega CD was a big failure, Sonic CD has a great gameplay has a good mp3 music depending on the version, one of the best classic games of sonic and sound remastering. PS: I'm not a fanboy of Sonic.

    A very unique game that deserves the critical acclaim it got. For starters, the atmosphere is just right, with a pre-apocalyptic setting that really drives in that desperate feeling. The music is catchy as hell, the graphics, while nothing mind-blowing, is still pretty cool, and the gameplay is unique and interesting.

    This is an excellent platformer for the ios. At times it can be extremely fustrating because they put spikes everywhere. Also, I'm not sure if this is true for all, but the aspect ration was wrong for my version of the iphone. Not a major complaint, but a bit annoying at times. Other than that, a very fun game while you wait on the train.

    I must admit I have wanted to review this game for a while as it has quite a story with me. I used to actually almost hate this game back in the day when I first laid my eyes on it. Then I was 5 and had already played the first 3 numbered games in the classic trilogy and it was so confusing to me that I couldn't understand the time posts and how it worked. Then I was 5 and had already played the first 3 numbered games in the classic trilogy and it was so confusing to me that I couldn't understand the time posts and how it worked. The music was also jarring to me and it seemed quite eerie and scary to me, yet it would quickly spark my imagination to the great heights that my mind would often take me at the time. I wouldn't see a shred of the game until very much later on the Sonic Gems Collection (I'm aware this isn't that version but that's besides the point) and wouldn't grow to like it till much later. Now the newest and greatest version of this classic masterpiece is finally out and I must say that it's a MUST BUY! While the original game had it's share of problems such as a horrible spindash and not as smooth physics (though it still did it's job), this ultimate version corrects all those mistakes and makes an already incredible game for the most part....perfect. You can now choose as Tails to play and it's really invigorating and incredibly fun, the spindash is now able to be changed to its far more versatile Sonic 2 version, and the music is now interchangeable between two FANTASTIC soundtracks: the USA version and the Japanese version. Regardless of the fact that both soundtracks give very different styles, they BOTH fit to me and BOTH give the game the deep atmospheres needed to identify the game the way it is. I personally like the American soundtrack very much but if you want to start I really couldn't give you a good answer to that. I have been very surprised at how good the Japanese soundtrack is though. Anyways the time post gimmick is revolutionary and instantly changes how you go through stages, trying to find the robot machines, get 50 rings for the special stage at the end of the level, and changing the future to its brighter evolutionary states. The special stages themselves are actually my favorite in the series I think. They have really surreal backgrounds, incredible music, and have an somewhat mysticism to them that I can't explain. Come to think of it, all the backgrounds in this game are artistically stellar and I sometimes find myself getting lost in them when the game stops long enough for me to The super peel out move is a more than welcome addition to Sonic's moveset and is my preferred method of , even more than the spindash. All in all Sonic CD for the IOS is just plain fun and a good time for anyone 14 or older. The first few games are more suited for younger kids, but this classic Sonic game has grown on me more than any other and to a great extent. Please do yourself a favor and get this game!… Expand

The game is perfect, gameplay is nice, I always had problems with iOS platformers due how weird is to control by touching the screen, but I didn't had this problem on Sonic CD.     The main thing that sets this game apart is the idea of splitting the zones into a past, a present, a good future, and a bad future. One day, I searched Sonic in the app store, and this was on the sidelines, so I had to pick it up.

    The main thing that sets this game apart is the idea of splitting the zones into a past, a present, a good future, and a bad future. There are sign posts distributed throughout the acts that let you go in between each of these time zones. It's initially frustrating getting the speed and consistency necessary to time travel, but when you figure out the best ways to go about it, you can easily go back and forth between the times to ensure that you get the best future. Then again, you could just rush through all the zones and not care at all, which is more likely than not, cause this is Sonic. However, there is a sense of satisfaction when you create a good future and get to run through the enemy free future that has a much more beautiful backdrop and happy music.

    The special stages put a grin on my face though. What's more fun than bashing UFO's to get the chaos emeralds (they aren't called this in the game, but let's be honest).

    This game is vibrant and colorful. Most stages are enjoyable, but some are gimmicky and infuriating (I'm looking at you Wacky Workbench). Some stages require a lot of precision like Metallic Madness, but some let you move at incredible speeds beyond most of the classical Sonic games like in Stardust Speedway. This game also introduces Metal Sonic, whom you get to challenge to a race.

    Yes, the time travel is a gimmick, but it enhances the gameplay appropriately and allows you to have an influence on gameplay style unusual to classic Sonic gameplay. Not every stage is a winner, but most of the levels are colorful and thoroughly enjoyable with several high notes. This game should be in any platforming connoisseurs collection.    … Expand

Are disappointing the pinball boss could have been cool and the final boss is pathetically easy but that is literally the only problem I have with this game it is a perfect port that is even better than the original the game also has time travel that is just as awesome as it sounds the music and stage both change when you time travel but the thing is its cool because its the same stage but differnt perspective this game like earthbound heavy rain and bioshock infinite could be considered an experience the first time I played this game my mind was blown its an experience I will never forget and unlike games like heavy rain it's incredibly fun to play as well I could just play this game over and over and over and over and over again the feeling you get in this game can't be described with words you feel removed from the world and put into another plane of exist I urge you with all of many soul BUY THIS GAME you will not be disappointed… Expand

    This is a really great port of Sonic CD. Not only does it include both the american and japanese soundtracks (first time ever) it also includes tails as an unlockiable character, reworked physics engine, and the screen resolution remade to fit the screen perfectly, This is a really awesome port, and a great way to play an underapreciated and forgotten sonic title, which has some of sonics 2D best.

    In my opinion it's second best Sonic game in years. First place occupies Sonic Colors on Wii. Most of my impressions from the Sonic CD were the effect of nostalgia but there's nothing wrong about it. It's pure Sonic at it's best and it would be hard to write anything the average gamer wouldn't know. If you ever enjoyed Sonic game, give this one a try,

    This game was already great before, coupled with all the new features, and the fact that the controls work comfortably on iOS, this game now outmatches even Sonic's first game ever.

    Wow, Fanboy's are us ! I played this the first time around and although it was ok at the time, gaming has moved on, I really dont know what fun people can eek out of this other than thinking "my god I am glad we are not in the 90's aymore". It's Sonic and it still has the same problems that Sonic always had, no real flow to it, unless you are one of the below reviewers and have devotedWow, Fanboy's are us !     OK i have played it so hard lately that surely I don't have anything to complain about... it's the best port ever made since those 90s old-school Sonic games that I spent so many time playing... BUT i don't know, it's not the same thing playing on the iPad, i miss the real controlpad on platformers, specially quick ones

    Sonic, at its prime, in this game. One of the grand games of its time and frustrating platforming game. Another Sonic game I would definitely buy. The only thing I wouldn't like is the time warp aspect, which makes this game more of a completion trial rather than a straight runthrough.

This version was ported by Christian Whitehead ("The Taxman"), a long time Sonic fan and game development guru. It retains the classic graphics, with improved effects. The gameplay and controls are also improved, borrowing Sonic 2's speed and spindash. (The original controls are stillSonic CD for iOS is an incredible game. It retains the classic graphics, with improved effects. The gameplay and controls are also improved, borrowing Sonic 2's speed and spindash. The achievements are not many, but are a cool addition to the game nonetheless. So are the online Game Center leaderboards. Visually is also better, with real wide-screen ratio and pixel filters. I still have the original SEGA CD disk for this game, and have never gotten the "good" ending nor all of the chaos emeralds. Every level has 3 acts. The first 2 acts have a bad machine to destroy in the past. If you destroy it, it gives you a good future for the level. The bad future is polluted and broken down. Then good future is squeeky clean. Likewise, when you destroy the bad machine, all the enemies in the level die in the past, present, and future. The levels change between the past, present, and future, and some areas of the past aren't easily accessible. You travel through time by running past a "past" or "future" post and going fast enough for a long enough time to trigger time travel. If you destroy the bad machines in both the first 2 acts, the 3rd act will be a good future. If you don't, the 3rd act is a bad future. Each time period for each level has its own music track, including the good vs bad future. As with the different time periods, the good future has some areas that are inaccessible to the bad future.

    Special stage is 3d and you try to blow up UFOs. Blow them all up and get the chaos emerald. Really simple compared to a modern sonic game. All you do is steer, sonic accelerates on his own, try not to run in the pools of water else they sap your time.

    This is the only sonic game to feature his super sprint or whatever its called (press up on the d pad and press jump). Its like the spin dash but for running instead. Its not very useful because your vulnerable. However, if you have super shoes, you can run over enemies if you go fast enough, although your not invulnerable to spiked enemies.

    Right now downloading the game and its... very slow. And it errored out. So be warned your not going to get to play this immediately. Note that I'm downloading the android version.

    Original game featured a super cheesy "Sonic Boom" theme song and animations as well as a time attack mode. Wonder if this port does as well...    … Expand

This is not just a regular emulated port like the other downloadable Sonic games, but it's actually been recreated from the ground up by a member of the Sonic fan community. The amount of care and detail that has been put into this is unbelievable.

    For those not familiar with the game, Sonic CD was originally released for the Sega CD system in 1993. Director Naoto Ohshima took the foundation built from Sonic 1 and made it into his vision of a Sonic game. The result is what is probably considered the most stylistic and surreal Sonic game there is.

    At first, it may seem like another typical Sonic game, which in a lot of ways it is. But beyond running through levels and spinning signposts at the end, there's a whole new twist added to the mix: time travel. If you want to fully complete the game and see the good ending, you'll have to travel back to the past to save the future.

    New features added to this game are the option to switch between the original Japanese soundtrack and the U.S. one, the option to switch between the original spindash and the Genesis-styled one, and the coolest new feature: the ability to play as Sonic's buddy Tails. This game also runs in widescreen instead of shrinking everything, which is a really nice touch.

    So yeah, if you're a fan of Sonic or platformers in general, you need to get Sonic CD on iOS. For the cheap price, it's nothing less than perfect.    … Expand

    Sure some elements, like the happy-go-lucky soundtrack that sounds like C&C Music Factory for Kids, feel a little dated – but Sonic CD delivers everywhere that it counts. If you're a fan of the Hedgehog from way back, but have had your heart broken by other mobile ports, fret not – Sonic CD is the game you've been waiting for.
