To name a few). But sometimes nail the perfect spot to make that port excellent turns out to be a total disappointment specially with this port RESIDENT EVIL 4 on ios.
Trying to port a huge game like RE4 to an mobile device is a challenge, specially if you want it to work like their console counterparts, but, at the end is not the same. Now... what we got instead? well... this!!!
GRAPHICS: The port was released in 2009, mobile games during that time were not really good looking with polished graphics like nowadays, most of them were acceptable or totally bad, but this one, OHH BOY!! bad, and didn't age so well.
LEVELS: A let down for this game (or at least to me), levels here are short, way to short, I know that this is because some technological limitations that ios devices had in 2009 but still, not great. GAMEPLAY: Missions in other hand are lazy, like, get through point A to B, kill some guys and beat the stage, then followed by some "cinematics" that are just frames from the game with text and some audio and wait to the score screen. Other missions are just about kill some bad guys until the same process happens again, and other missions... the boss fight. There are some ranking missions, like killing some enemies in an specific time and clear some stages with that same specific time, You can buy ammo and weapons at the black market to beat enemies faster or to handle heavier enemies and bosses and exchange relics that you can find in the levels for cash, so you can keep buying stuff.
CONTROLS: In this game felt. really good, that's a plus for the port, maybe the aiming sensibility was a bit low, but out of that, controls are well placed and easy to use and smooth, imitating the same from the console version, the inventory system is not exactly the same, and it's a bit slower the process of equip a gun but stills great.
Overall... I felt RE4 on ios a really weak contender on the ported versions of this game, it could have been nice to have a truly RE4 experience on the go if this game had came out in this generation of mobile and not 4 gens back, it could have been more polished with, maybe, more complete missions and cinematics instead of frames.… Expand
