    Puzzle & Dragons Story is unable to completely abandon some distortions inherent in its gameplay, such as the excessive tendency towards grinding, however the distribution through Apple Arcade at least alleviates this aspect by eliminating the specter of microtransactions. For the rest, it remains the usual perfect mechanism between puzzle and role-playing progression, peppered with many creatures that are easy to become attached to.

    With no in-app purchases, what might have been a gacha system is replaced with crafting, letting you use resources to build new beasts, that unleash damage on your behalf. It’s just as polished as you’d expect from such a venerable franchise, and stripped of its monetisation is at least as compelling.
