    Kingdom Builder should be a great game on iOS. The rules are simple and the play eminently suitable for transition to a touchscreen interface. But while it essentially delivers what it needs to, it's a salutary lesson on how a number of small issues which might not be deal breakers individually can rapidly snowball and make an app slip into unusable territory.

    This game is more strategic meaning it is harder to master and that excellent players will have much better stats than good players. In Lanterns, I spent maybe 20 hours with the game. If I played versus an expert I have a good chance of winning since I optimized the strategy and there is so much luck. Not so with Kingdom Builder which has the same amount of luck but a lot more areas to master.

    What I don't like:
    There are situations where you should be able to take back a move since you have not committed to anything yet but cannot.
    Some of the victory point conditions need clarification. You should not have to lose to find out it did not mean what you thought it meant or search through it a pdf that is not made to be viewed on a phone or tablet.
    The interface is quite clunky especially if the phone has a small viewing area.

    What I do like:
    No obvious bugs
    Functional, no-frills, interface. It could look better but some apps make it look better and is unplayable or harder to navigate.
    Energy efficient on phone. Some games will drain your battery, not this one.

    Overall, the good outweigh the bad and this is worth investing some time in.    … Full Review »
