    Its funner than mega man. kind of lost interests in these type of games since SNES but this game is legit. Not the best graphics, but entertainment and challenge are top notch... Update: actually after playing Goblin Sword....which i feel is the same genre, I realize this game just wasn't that fun. Golin Sword on the other hand, IS fun.

"Cave Story," for instance, is a legendary PC freeware wonder that has enjoyed success on various Nintendo handhelds thanks to loving ports and updates by Nicalis. Perhaps "Kero Blaster" will make it to 3DS or even the Vita, but for now it's available on computers and iOS. Perhaps "Kero Blaster" will make it to 3DS or even the Vita, but for now it's available on computers and iOS. Here's the shocker: the iOS touchscreen controls actually work! It almost pains me to say that because I cannot stand touchscreen controls for platformers, but it would pain me more to know that this brilliant game was hamstrung by bad controls.

    To see this with such a low (currently a 5!!) User Score is just a travesty. This is a wonderful game. The graphics are Cave Story-esque with the so-called retro aesthetic, the various enemies and characters are memorable and impressive in their simplicity and emotive nature, the weapon upgrade system is very gratifying, and the generous player death/checkpoint system mixed with the very gratifying weapon and health upgrade system provide a smooth difficulty curve that's only as difficult as how quickly you course through the game. The music is typically wonderful as well.

    This is by far the best platformer/shooter on iOS because the control scheme has been tailored for touch controls. You have left-right buttons and a jump button as your main controls. These are hard to miss even in the most hectic boss sequences (which are always clever and fair, even if they don't seem so at first) after you've gotten through a level or two. To fire, you simply move a three-way switch to provide left, right, or "up" auto-firing. You may cease firing by taping the mechanism once. It's very intuitive and the best workaround for touch controls in this sort of environment I've ever seen.

    It is simple lighthearted fun. The control scheme is unique, and despite a lack of complexity the colorful art style conveys tons of charm.     There are three campaigns that offer a great range of difficulty and good stopping points.

    The story in the first and last campaigns are not very intense, only bare bones enough to provide us with a reason to run and gun. The second campaign's story actually offers some food for thought. At most, the characters might make you giggle or gasp a few times.

    The menus could be considered hard to navigate (keyboard only), and weapon switching takes practice (both of these issues are fixed on the phone version, highly recommended). Aside from the control scheme, there is no unique take on the run'n'gunner here, which is only an issue if you want it to be. A desire for upgrades could tempt a person to grind for points, but this is not required to be strong enough at the end of the game. Losing all lives means restarting an area, which means you will get a boost in upgrade points to balance the difficulty.

    The gameplay and art direction will likely be enough to pull most people through the game, and the flaws are so minor that this is only worth skipping if you've got a similar game with a meatier story already on your to-play list. (Then, when you are done with that, it is time to play this).

    Once again, the iOS version of this game is superior (that would get a ten) in every way, even benefiting more from the simple art style on a smaller screen.    … Expand

    Kero Blaster plays like an ode to the simple 2D Game Boy games of yesteryear, and while it doesn’t do anything glaringly wrong, it’s not some remarkable reimagining.

    With Kero Blaster, Daisuke "Pixel" Amaya shows again his love for (8-bit) games. The game takes a different route than that of Cave Story, but the surreal worlds and the 8-bit visual splendor return. The controls work perfectly and thanks to the innovative shooting system you bang with extreme precision. The only thing Kero Blaster suffers from is the extremely short duration of the game.
