High School Story’s familiar gameplay won’t win any awards for originality, but the game definitely has heart and a great sense of humor. Older players might not want to re-visit high school, but younger players will find a lot to relate to here.

This game is certainly compelling, and characters reveal traits and experiences that all high school students will find familiar. The storyThis game is certainly compelling, and characters reveal traits and experiences that all high school students will find familiar. The story lines include a range of important thematic matters.

Some stories can drag on a little, leading to you tapping past them rapidly to go straight for the reward. Similarly, there are times when the game removes any ability to have moral ambiguity and instead forces your character to make the decision that the creators see as the "correct" choice.

For instance, following a disturbing bullying story line involving the character "Ace" who filmed his classmates (including the main character) and led a harsh bullying campaign against them, the resolution of the story is extremely rapid. Ace claims remorse but there is no follow-up and the player can only accept his apology without further having a chance to explain their own struggles or even suggest some form of follow-up to this.

That said, on the other side of the morality, the game is excellent with other issues. One key character Mia struggles with both her body image and it is strongly implied that she isn't straight, leading to further tensions with her parents. These issues are very well dealt with and the player feels involved in making others in the story feel supported, and that their actions are helping.
