First off, it's a gacha game, but the ones that takes resources to build your characters instead of using a rare currency, which is very refreshing to see. Second, cosmetics and costumes are a cruel system but feel worth it when you attain tokens to unlock them.

Girls Frontline is a mobile game I genuinely love. If you like guns, anime girls, and a plot that rivals basic sci-fi games, you'll love this game. This game will most likely have your favorite gun and even more obscure or less known ones you may feel attached to. The turn based combat may feel out of place or even boring to start, but I grew into the combat system, especially when bringing my favorite guns. Many of the guns are designed by different artists, which reflects the holder's personality, and provides a template to grow used to.
Meta wise, power creep occasionally happens through new features, and the best dolls (guns) are the plot related ones, stick with them. Still, a lot of dolls will get buffed later on by updates and even 2/3 stars are even viable based on team setups. Overall, this game will get you addicted. Immerse yourself with the dolls and find the ones you'll love, and you'll have a great experience for a mobile game.

Girls' Frontline is a survival/tower defense game. The game itself involves around collecting and augmenting guns that are personalized as female anime cyborgs. The player, as the commander of these gun girls, will be able to send these girls out on defensive missions to save the world from a sentient robotic race that is trying to rid the world of humans.

The game itself has a steep learning curve, so I can not recommend this game to beginners of the genre. New players may often find themselves running out of a precious resource called Dummy Cores. Without Dummy Cores for Dummy Link, these players would find themselves stuck and unable to proceed with the story. It's recommended for new players to read up on Core Hell when starting this game for the first time.

The UI is messy - not great but it gets a passing grade. It seems a bit complex at first, but I think the user would quickly get used to it (assuming they have the time to explore what everything does). If reading isn't your thing, this game might not be up your alley.

Because the game uses a gun naming scheme for characters in the game, it may be a bit difficult trying to talk to friends about the actual characters due to poor name recognition. Names such as Scorpion, Grizzly, and Thompson are easier to remember. On the other hand, names such as G11, OTs-14, WA2000, and LWMMG are more difficult to remember. As such, we always have to double check the name before talking about the gun-personified characters. My overall rating is not based on this aspect of the game, but it's worth considering.

The paper maps for all story and combat missions don't fit with what we actually see when our units are in a battle. It's also too cartoony for its intended audience. As it is now, it seems almost as if the maps' target audience are grade schoolers.

I'd like to point out that the players are always on the defensive side in every battle. Forget about seeing your characters charging toward the enemy's base and blowing everything up heroically. That doesn't exists in this game. What this game has now is more akin to a tower defense game. In other words, the players' units are just staying in one area while shooting down waves after waves of enemies. Ever played Space Marine on Warcraft 3 or Plants vs. Zombies? This game is like that.

What's the point of the character sprites having big bubble heads? Is this an April's Fool joke? Character sprites would look better if not for the big bubble heads. I can not agree with this design choice. It contrasts too greatly with the serious tone of the game.

While this game is good, it is certainly not great. There are just too many design choices that don't make any sense. For example - if we are fighting an offensive battle, then why are we on the defensive when the battle starts? In addition - if the game is taking a serious tone, why do the character sprites have chibi/bubble heads? Lastly, the cartoon paper maps of the out-world don't match with what we see during actual combat. If the developer wants this game to be better, they would have to upgrade the aforementioned assets.

One last thing of note. The customer service that I had received from this developer has been great. Because of my overall satisfaction with this game and their customer service, I had rated it 8/10. There are certainly areas to improve on, and I hope to see those implemented in Girls Frontline 2.

I think this story and the chars are so god damn interesting it deserves a Anime or console game. It is a gem of his kind. But what maybe the normal people not appeal's is the amount of time to come to the end of the story.

This game is essentially a gaccha game where all the units are anime girl representations of various rifles, hand guns, sub machine guns, machine guns, and assault rifles. The game attempts to have a serious story but this is one of those stories that go nowhere. There's a lot of good and interesting story points but unfortunately, all chapters end with "your princess is in another castle" so you can finish up to 10 chapters and still be strung along while the game sets up this whole buildup of M4A1 (who is the main character) only with no reasonable payoff. All the villains pretty much have the same personality as they all mainly care about "entertainment" which is pretty weak plot point for a series that is trying to be serious. In essence, this gaccha game is relatively friendly to newcomers but does a horrible job of explaining the game and its mechanics to you. Experimentation is fine but needlessly wasting resources in the beginning will have huge downsides in the long run making it a necessity to look up guides. Overall, there are better stories out there that deal with androids and the concept of free will and emotions. Only play this game if you're into waifu collecting. Expand
