    The game has allot of powercreep and terrible balancing with almost every new summon banner having a unit that adds a new meta focusing on them, having overall better stats than the other characters in that class or having an ability that either is broken or it counters abilities that are mainly used to counter them.     It truly means something when this is what people will defend as a good mobile game. There are people out there saying that you shouldn't compare this at all with the handheld Fire Emblem games- but why shouldn't we? I have a 3DS with both of the newer iterations of the series, so why should I bother to play this? It's simpler in every respect. There are some benefits to this game- there's the ease and speed of battles as well as the thrill of randomly receiving a powerful hero. At higher levels (from what I can tell) you have the option to choose your character's abilities and go in to battle. I've enjoyed the times when I've actually hand-picked a team to directly counter my enemy's army. But that's it- everything else about the game feels too dumbed-down to actually be more than passably enjoyable. Is the game terrible? No, but it's not worth me putting down a dedicated handheld console to pick up a free-to-play app on my phone.… Expand

    I have been playing Fire Emblem Heroes for almost one year now, and I have to say that it is one of the best mobile games I have ever played. Especially a free game. The developers really care about the community, and the game takes the best parts of Fire Emblem (weapon triangle, stats, tactics, gameplay, and fanservice) and makes a very accessible game. However, the 16X12 grid with a 4 unit limit does yield smaller scaled battles which are good in small doses, though it's nowhere as deep as even the earliest entries in the series. The worst part about this game is summoning heroes where by using orbs obtained from battles you'll be able to generate a randomly selected hero with his or her stats also being randomly generated. The only problem though is that fan favorites like Roy and Lucina can only be obtained through sheer luck and even if you do get them their stats could be poor and unless you're willing to put some money into orbs via micro-transaction you won't be able to get your favorite characters. Overall, the amount of content in this game is staggering, especially with the likelihood of updates being inevitable I'd highly recommend this game, though it's not the best entry in the series by far.… Expand

    It's serviceable I guess. The idea of people giving it a 10 is laughable. Gacha mobile game with a very dumb downed version of normal Fire Emblem games. Takes a few hours to get through the story, tons of grinding, non-existent story, and there you go.

    Plays like every other mobile games with the same ingame shops etc. I am a big FE fan but this game has nothing to do with other FE games. Super small battlefield, only 4 teammembers, nearly no depth other than stone/scissor/paper, mindless grinding etc. Seriously: you have to get your new characters out of lootboxes with raretly.     The gameplay is pretty good as expected from a fire emblem game. The problem i have is just how expensive microtractions are which i know is optional but the prices are terrible. The bare bones story is goof enough but the story also ends abrubtly after chapter 9 with no resolution meaning its not finished and theres no reason to play, also no actual multiolayer is a buzzkill

    It's bad, like really bad. First, in my personal experience there was an issue with the install and I think it messed up the link to my Nintendo account. Customer service has only tried to avoid helping me, stating ideas I clearly already listed as having tried, or telling me to try a different account or create a new one, which is literally the same as saying, "We will do absolutelyIt's bad, like really bad.     No. "It is a functioning game," is about the only positive thing I can say about it. Just another grindy cash shop mobile game. Nintendo has finally taken the poison. Why should Nintendo bother making good games when millions of people are perfectly willing to pay for this effortless trash.

    Fire Emblem Heroes passes as a mobile game. It obviously won't compete with the core games on actual systems, but it passes for a small mobile title. It's got many of the key elements, just scaled down to a fit the mobile style. But what I love most about the game is all the characters available. I will say that the idea of getting doubles annoys me, especially since it happens to me a lot, but I won't use that to fully degrade the idea. Summoning is still fun. The gameplay is a simplistic version of the regular gameplay of the console titles, just smaller and simpler. Up to four units per team and compressed maps resembling notable maps from across the franchise. It's a really great concept. I think Fire Emblem Heroes is a great mobile title and will get better as more features and characters are added.… Expand

    A solid mobile game with really great design and attention to details. Freemium elements don't force you to spend money. You can earn plenty of orbs while walking through campaign and earning different achievements.

Gameplay-wise the only resemblance it has to Fire Emblem is graphical: there are no items, weapons, spell choices, activated skills, pair up/support, etc. Even the basic combat system is gone: there are no critical hits - there aren't even hit/miss chances, all attacks hit.Of course it's not a very good Fire Emblem game, but it's not a very good gacha-style gambling mobile game either.     Sadly i can only warn away from it. It truly follows the template for psych warfare and abuse aimed at emptying wallets set by all previous mobile F2P games. Missions require Stamina, half-way through the story a mission costs 6, though i've also seen missions costing 10. Max is 50.    Had great hopes for Fire Emblem Heroes.     So hey, if you see your friends playing it, at least give them a warning that this won't be like a usual game you buy, own and play; but one that will happily take all you can give, because it can, and because human brains are weak and easily exploited.    … Expand

    Yes, there is gatcha in the form of generating random heroes for orbs you can earn really slowly or buy, but it kinda adds a little fun to it, in my opinion. It makes completing missions feel more rewarding.

    My only real gripes are the extremely short-lived Stamina bar that lets you actually play the game, and the very-slow-to-regenerate Duel Swords that let you play against other people's teams. If they could just up these a little bit, I'd be a happy camper.

    TLDR: If you're a Fire Emblem fan, pick it up, you'll like it. If you're curious about Fire Emblem and its basic gameplay, pick it up, this will give you an introduction. If you're neither, it's still worth looking at since it's free-to-start.    … Expand

    Good game for free mobile title (and better then Mario Run because it is free and it have much more content and systematic updates), I think this game is actually better than 3DS titles because there are no big annoyances like **** story presented like it mean anything, stupid shipping and hellish random in battles (like in FEF: Conquest).     The game looks great, the game uses characters from all games of the series and all have been redesigned to fit with the new artstyle. The battle animations look nice with the chibi-versions and are a lot faster than you are used to on regular FE which works for mobile.

    The menu's look nice and the (original) music is amazing. The game comes with a tutorial so anyone not familiar with Fire Emblem can easily learn it as they go along.

    The biggest change from regular FE are the small maps and small teams you play with. You play with teams of 4 of four characters in an 8x6 grid with slow classes. (armor knights) having 1 movement, regular classes 2 movement and knights and fliers 3 movement. When I first saw this I was scared this would ruin the game but they really made it work by adjusting a few things.

    One of those adjustments is that your characters now have skills they can trigger after a certain number of turns. One of those skills is "nightsky" which gives a 50% boost on a units next attack (triggers automatically). These skills make individual units have more impact on a batte and it allows for strategy in the small format. If you have a unit with nightsky for example you can use that unit to take out a tough enemy if you position him correctly, it makes it more strategic because there is a strategic advantage to having that unit in the right place, you gain something by managing that skill in a way that the skill is more useful than if you would just randomly use it.

    Another one of the adjustments is support skills that you can use every turn. Some give extra strength to an allied unit, that makes the low mobility in general less of a problem because a unit that can't attack can still buff an ally that can attack. Other support skills also help with mobility, one skill allows unit (A) when he is put next to another unit (B), to put B in front of him (him = A) and there are more skills like that.

    Orbs are used to recruit characters and are obtainable through the story but you can also recruit characters by clearing daily special maps. Orbs may be expensive but you can enjoy the game without spending any money on it as well.    … Expand

This games take the better from Fire Emblem: Combats, strategys, statistics, no permanent Death (This is good because you can think a better strategy) and more. It has decent story, really generic in my opinion but at least is good.     A solid introduction to FE newbies, while still offering some surprises for veterans. The presentation is slick and takes full advantage of the platform. That said, it could use some better menu tutorials. Lots of hunting around to try and understand what I'm doing at first.

    This game is essentially a 'mini' Fire Emblem. You have a limit of 4 units to your army when you begin a map, and your missions are to either route an enemy, survive for a certain amount of turns, or defeat the enemy in a certain amount of turns.

    Levels are scaled down versions of maps from their respective Fire Emblem games. Each having a soundtrack that goes along with their respective game, redone of course to make it sound a bit more modern.

    The bread and butter of the game is the units themselves. This is where the game shines, allowing so much variety to choose from, being able to mould your units how you please. However this is flawed as well. This game is a gacha game, so many units are gotten through chance. This is one of those 'freemium' games, where it's optional to pay to get somewhere, but you can get by completely free.

    If this was an actual Fire Emblem release title, from the likes of Fates or Awakening and such, then this would be a mediocre game. But it isn't, it's a mobile game, and I expected as much from it.

    If you like the franchise, then definitely pick up this game. It's not a triple-A title, but at least it has the weapon triangle.    … Expand

    The game itself is fun and great! The in game purchase system and all the currencies are horrible and ruin the game! If you want to have some useful heroes later on you have to seriously grind the game, or spend money! And it is far from cheap!

    While this game does have different game mechanics than the other Fire Emblem games. The interesting and ever-more-exciting game features make it a fun experience. 8.8 out of 10 as its story-line doesn't feel that exciting and some of the randomness and unequal distribution of items can be inflated. *note submitted at version: 2.2.0

    Design: One of the things that captivated me the most. When you think of a gacha, you usually think of overbloated screens which don't leave your eyes rest. Surprisingly enough Fire Emblem Heroes' menus are beautiful, compact and tell you everything you need about the character on a single screen in the most organised way possible. Furthermore, the characters' art is really great, and the voice actors chosen for the older games' roster are marvelous (Xander Mobus as Arvis, Patrick Seitz as Hector, Brina Palencia as Ayra and Lute and Griffin Burns as Julius are my favourites). It shows they care for the characters because they could've just picked the original artwork and call it a day, but even with more recent characters they went through the hassle of hiring an artist to do an unique artwork. Besides, the chibi models in the maps and battles look great, even for "serious" characters.

    Gameplay: The gameplay is a quite watered-down version of what most Fire Emblem games have, but it accomplishes to introduce its fair share of mechanics, with emphasis in positioning and team synergy, once more, diverting from the usual flashy effects with gazillion numbers that most gachas tend to have. Regarding to your units, FEH manages to allow you to make every unit viable with the proper investment.

    F2P aspect: Again, FEH separates itself from most pay-to-win gachas with a really F2P-friendly structure. The premium currency is pretty easy to gain and rack up, there are maps which give you units which for the most part are decent and the summonings, while they can have their moments of bad luck (because, you know, RNG happens), they have the decency to show you the chances to gain certain rarities of units and you can get a hefty amount of 5* units (highest rarity) without paying. However, the in-game cost (in-game items, not money) to promote a unit from 4* to 5* is quite high,

    Story: Not the biggest point in the game. The Book 1 is forgettable but Book 2 amped up the story to high degrees, with the inclusion of brand new characters mainly as enemies, such as Laegjarn, a cunning and smart leader or Helbindi, a general who breaks the archetype that the main antagonist Surtr represents (axe-wielding blood-thirsty berserker) being a caring person who does not follow Surtr through and through but withstands his position to ensure the welfare of his own family.

    Conclusion: FEH is a really tame gacha, but it manages to break some of the gacha stereotypes and feels like a completely functional Fire Emblem game, which i recommend to pick up if you want to see what Fire Emblem, on its surface, has to offer. What's more, the characters' portrayal is so well-made it can interest you in other games in the franchise. If there is something that I'd complain about is that sometimes the game can have times with nothing to do.    … Expand

Due to the nature of the platform, it divides its levels into short and simple squares with only 4-5 characters, perfect for mobile gaming. It reminds me of every other great game I've played.     Nintendo has just made a mobile game which is really good if you want to introduce yourself to the Fire Emblem franchise. It will introduce you to the battle systems, weapon triangle, and hundreds of characters from multiple Fire Emblem games. You start with Alfonse, Sharena and Anna, and will eventually get orbs to summon heroes from multiple games, such as Marth (from Shadow Dragon), IkeNintendo has just made a mobile game which is really good if you want to introduce yourself to the Fire Emblem franchise. It will introduce you to the battle systems, weapon triangle, and hundreds of characters from multiple Fire Emblem games. You start with Alfonse, Sharena and Anna, and will eventually get orbs to summon heroes from multiple games, such as Marth (from Shadow Dragon), Ike (from Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn), Roy (The Binding Blade), Chrom (Awakening), and many more characters. The best part about them is the fact that you can summon characters from the Japan-exclusive titles. And this just showcases a small portion of the HUGE Fire Emblem cast of characters. However, the energy system feels pointless, getting orbs gets harder the more you advance, obtaining good heroes is just SO difficult, the friend list is pointless, and the voting tournaments are very predictable. But the game has tons of replayability and adds new heroes and game modes quite often. It's free-to-play, so you can get it at any time, but you can purchase stuff in order to improve the experience. Fire Emblem Heroes is definitely worth it, but it's relatively weaker than the rest of the legendary Nintendo franchise.… Expand

    A very well-done mobile adaptation. The game offers a very pleasing way to pass the time. However, it may be weeks before you finally summon a new hero. Many banners and free summons counters this, though.

    If you’re a Fire Emblem fan, seeing those familiar faces intermingle across different eras and stories is kinda cool from a gameplay perspective. If you’ve never played Fire Emblem before, this might be the one of the kindest introductions into the series.

    Fire Emblem Heroes reminded me that the Japanese do not consider smartphones and tablets worthy of real games and treat them as a way to encourage you to buy full-fledged releases for 3DS or Switch. [04/2017, p.75]
