    FTWD: Dead Run works and it has some interesting ideas, but license aside, we think there are better alternatives available in the App Store.

    Kind of like a third-person Into the Dead. It's an infinite runner with a nice emphasis on combat. The game has more going for it than justKind of like a third-person Into the Dead. The game has more going for it than just the license, such as some really gorgeous graphics, but could ultimately use some more content to back things up.

    With a visual style reminiscent of LIMBO it's a very nice game to look at. There's a surprising amount of detail in it's simplicity. Watching a zombie's head explode is a treat to behold.

    The gameplay experience doesn't diverge much from what you would expect from the genre. The only real difference is that you are given the option to attack enemies around and in front of you. A necessary thing to do in order to survive. The undead are the only obstacles in your way in this game. As soon as you get a hold of how to judge their distance from you, you'll be fine.

    The thing that really holds the game back is the lack of content. The standard endless mode where you complete challenges is really the only thing here. The game comes with a "story episode" that acts as a level with a set end. It takes no time to complete and after you do so there's not really a reason to give it a second go. You'll get all of the rewards the first time. The other two episodes have to be paid for with real money.

    It's attempts at getting you to use the microtransactions are a bit annoying. Sometimes that's the only way to get all of the characters. You don't have to spend a penny on the game, but it might be worth it for some more gameplay.

    As it stands on it's own though, it's a solid, if lacking, package. One that can provide some hours of entertainment while you try to get every weapon upgrade and item in the free version. Microtransactions might extend the life of the game a little, but are completely unnecessary. As a result it's still worth a look for fans of the show.    … Expand
