This game has a LOT of replay value. The upgrades are inventive, the styles really do feel different from one another, and the backgrounds...well...they don't really add to much.

I was reminded of Spelunky and Nuclear Throne while playing this game. It's obviously a roguelike, but you fall onto enemies at a rapid pace with heavy rewards for chaining gigantic combos. The upgrade system is a little like Nuclear Throne's and I noticed a lot of similar upgrades, but it was able to stay fresh.
If you finally beat one of the most difficult bosses in the history of anything ever, you'll gain access to a hard mode with new enemies and challenges for every zone.
If you're okay with the difficulty, I suggest that you give it a go.

A cheap and addictive game that's easy to understand but difficult to master. With only 4 actions (move left, move right, junp and fire) it manages to be incredibly challenging, with every area bringing in another surprise for you. It's a delightful experience that will have you saying "just one more go..." after each death.

Just be careful with the unlockable color pallets. They can

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The graphics and colors are minimalist - only shades of black, gray, white, and red- but the game is highly detailed and packed with action, it’s intense, it’s unique, and every game you play goes towards unlocking something new. Expand

This looks so promising. A little jewel of a game, with well-polished mechanics. I feel so sorry for this game, it could have been a perfect mobile game, but it's way too hard. You won't last long, and the short run you'll have will make you feel rather dissatisfied with the experience.

With the difficulty toned down, this would be perfect.

Probably one of the best mobile games I've ever played. You can play over and over without getting bored and the game feels brand new every time you play again.

Downwell is a game you keep on playing. The flashy gameplay, perfectly balanced rogue-lite elements and constant rewards make this game an instant classic. The game is surprisingly deep and the only thing that gets in the way of it being brilliant, are the limited controls smartphones and tablets offer.

Downwell is an incredibly addictive game, and one of the best arcades we've played this year on iDevices.

Downwell is easily one of the best action games to hit mobile this year. It’s intense, it’s unique, and every game you play goes towards unlocking something new.
