Dissembler is a subtle puzzle game about unraveling playful, abstract designs one color at a time.

Flip pairs of tiles to make matching color groups vanish, but that's where the resemblance to a standard match-three ends. In Dissembler no tiles will drop in to replace the ones you have matched: your task is to remove all tiles and leave behind a clean slate. The experience starts simply, leading you gently from basic principles to more and more complex puzzles, and before long it will require careful planning and lateral thinking to keep progressing.

As a big puzzle lover, Dissembler may be my new favorite for the time being. I love the simple and clean graphics, the music is charming, and the gameplay is fun and challenging. I also like the fact that there are no in-app purchases, and the game even lets you unlock all of the puzzles so you can go through them all at your own pace. I just hope to see more color palettes added in future updates, just to add some variety.

Dissembler is one of those puzzle games that just feels good to play around with, but it backs that simple joy with a solid spate of puzzles and gameplay modes. Unlike this developer's previous games, I think this one is welcome to players of a variety of skill levels, too. If you're looking for a mellow puzzle game that will help pass the time without making extra demands on your wallet, you'll likely be quite pleased with what Dissembler has to offer.

In Dissembler you swap tiles in a grid to match three or more of the same colour, which then disappear. Your job is to clear each board, a process that involves making considerable use of the game’s unlimited undo button as you tinker with tactics to make sure you leave no square behind. The puzzles are elegantly designed, the interface simple and the ratchet and click noise as you swap tiles is so satisfying it’s almost a game in itself. There’s also a pleasing sense of progression, and before too long you’ll be spotting promising patterns of squares before you’ve even made your first move.
