Very pleasurable game if you're in no rush to play. The program shows you a list of several homes to chose from - which are only available to access for a few days and then unused homes are replaced with new ones. The program shows you a list of several homes to chose from - which are only available to access for a few days and then unused homes are replaced with new ones. Each home gives you a summary of the people who live their and how they would like you to design a room FOR THEM. When you enter the room there are re-marked spots throughout the room dictating the type of item that must be put there (your only design liberty is chosing which brand item to put there). The game has several problems. You cannot decide for yourself how the room should look (this is DEFINITELY NOT 'The Sims') - you cannot move any items around, each type must go where it is pre-selected to go. It works in conjunction with REAL furniture manufacturers and companies and uses real 3-D images of the items with a real photograph of a real room in a real house to decorate. That sounds great, until you spend a lot of time trying to match pieces of furniture and use up your money to get the perfect items - and then when you put that item in place you discover that the in-game ambient light (either coming thru the windows or from a lamp you placed in the room) completely washes out your item so it looks washed out, making even black items white. Like ALL games which require in-game gems and money of some kind in order to purchase in-game items, the gems are SUPER expensive to buy. I think this is a universal conspiracy across all gaming platforms, and I'm hoping Congress will kick their butts for this. No one should ever have to pay more to play a game than in would cost to purchase a game from a store. However, you really don't need to buy gems unless you are in a mad rush to design the rooms for some reason. You easily build up in-game gems and cash to buy items by creating rooms and judging other people's rooms. It might take a bit of time to build up a good inventory of items, but the longer you play, the more you'll have and the more rooms you'll be able to create. My only real complain is voting system... instead of voting on other people's designs with, say, a star rating system, they show you 2 rooms side by side and you select the one you like better! That's CRAZY and totally unfair. Also, the cost of an item is directly tied to the REAL cost of the item from the manufacturer. For example, if a company in the real world charges $3,000 for a red Baroque armchair, you can expect to pay $3,000 with in-game gems or in-game cash. And I can assure you that this is not furniture from Walmart! They are all high-end items at outrageous prices. Decorative items, like pictures to hang on the wall, potted plants and small table decor pieces mostly range around $1,000 EACH! The WORST aspect of this program is that when you buy an item, you only get to use that item 5 times. After that you have to pay full price for it again! That would be okay - if the people you're designing the room actually paid you for the items you have to buy to put in that room - but unlike reality, you the designer have to foot the entire bill for the items you use and, with rare exception, your only reward is if your designs get enough votes to rate it between 4 and 5 stars. Unlike other games a bit like this (such as the many Glu celebrity games), there’s no storyline to follow, luring you in a little more each time. The real allure to Design Home is for those people keen to own a home but without the space or finances. They can live out their dreams of designing a home just how they want it to look, without spending any real money or significant time on the results. As a form of dream making, it fits the job. Even if its longevity isn’t quite there.
