    "Beyond a Steel Sky" (BSS) is a graphic adventure, sequel to the classic point-and-click adventure "Beneath a Steel Sky" of the 90's. As the title suggests, it heavily relies on nostalgia. However, contrary to other heavy-nostalgic titles, BSS tries to adapt to new audiencies. As the title suggests, it heavily relies on nostalgia. However, contrary to other heavy-nostalgic titles, BSS tries to adapt to new audiencies. This implies two majer changes from the classic title: a totally updated audiovisual presentation, including 3D graphics and movement and great soundtrack, and a heavy water down difficulty up to the point the game might be closer to text adventures than to classic graphic adventures.

    The pros of BSS is that the audiovisuals are nice so that the game really might be appealing to new audiencies: nice graphics for a mobile device and wonderful soundtrack. It is also a true game, 10 hour long, not one of the bad apps you usually find on the appstore.

    The cons are that the game has many bugs (you will see characters walking on top of each other many times) and that the story is actually not very good, much worse than the classic game of the 90's.

    Summary: If you loved the original, the game is certainly worth a try. If you just like graphic adventures then you might consider other games available at the appstore. For example, Thimbleweed Park, Broken Age, or all the ports from the 90's.    … Expand

    It’s still a dialogue-heavy adventure set in a dystopian, cyberpunk future, and maintains its Broken Sword-esque sense of humour and charmingly British sensibilities. Sadly, it also suffers from the same peccadilloes as its ancient forebear. Chief amongst those is the need to figure out sometimes non-intuitive sequences of actions to solve its puzzles, and sitting through reams of chat that sometimes isn’t quite as amusing as it imagines. It’s still worth it for the sweet pang of nostalgia though.

    Beyond a Steel Sky is a classic adventure game because it's obtuse, complex, frustrating, and once you've gotten past that difficult puzzle, endlessly satisfying. Whether or not this will satisfy fans of the 1994 original remains to be seen, but this is the best adventure on Apple Arcade, and has a lot to offers fans of Telltale Games and other adventure classics.

    Minor technical flaws aside, Beyond a Steel Sky is quite surprising in its faithfulness with the original. Clearly this cannot have the same impact of the original, but it would be difficult to make a more successful return for the series.
