I want to love this game but there are obvious efforts to milk extra cash out of players. If they offered a version for consoles with a $40 up front cost and no micro transactions I bet this game would be amazing.

From the moment I began playing Asphalt 9: Legends, I wanted to be immersed in its beautiful world and great soundtrack, however, heavy implementation of monetized features and some dull gameplay keep this game from living up to its full potential.

Right off the bat, I would like to say that this review is being conducted using the Steel Series Nimbus controller in Gamepad Manual mode.

Right off the bat, I would like to say that this review is being conducted using the Steel Series Nimbus controller in Gamepad Manual mode. Trust me on this one, the Touchdrive mode is extremely boring, and will have you closing the app after five minutes. With that out of the way, Asphalt 9 is the newest game in the somehow still alive racing series. This game brings a handful of changes to the core Asphalt game play, some are welcome, most are not.

GAMEPLAY: It seems like the folks at Gameloft have decided that Asphalt 8’s multi-lap races are far too long, and therefore, all races are now one lap. This is a horrendous decision on the part of Gameloft. Although the races can now feel a bit more open, nobody asked for this, and surely, nobody wanted this. Gameloft is also heavily encouraging users to use a control scheme called “Touchdrive”. This control scheme practically plays the game for you, and sucks all the fun out of this game. Additionally, this game also has a gas system that actually prevents you from playing after a certain amount of games. This is unbelievable! And don’t even get me stated on this games multiplayer, which is biased towards people who have payed more for better cars. The long and the short of it is, half of this game is pay to win, and the other half is fun at times, but is mostly a dull mess of gameplay. I do however have to credit this game in many categories! First of all, the graphics are beautiful, better than nearly any other mobile game I’ve seen. Second, this game's soundtrack is delightful and perfectly fits the tone in which the game is going for. Third, car customization in this game is excellent, letting you choose tons of features about your car, even its color! Sadly, these factors alone can’t make up for all the categories in which this game is lacking.

VERDICT: If played right, there is some fun to be had from this game, just not enough to make this game worth anything. Even with its stunning graphics epic soundtrack, and great customization this game just isn’t worth my time.

Good game but too many cheaters in multiplayer mode. Also, the AI program is over reaching when you are well out ahead then suddenly being overtaken by npc's because they dont want you to reach the next level without powering up the car a level.

Coupled with an ambiguous 'Loot Box' system by way of digital car packs, it soon becomes clear that this is less a racing game and more so a gambling game.
The multiplayer mode is little better, often requiring the aforementioned 'real money' cars to earn rewards. Coupled with the fact that hacking/cheating runs rampant it can be very disheartening.
Overall, while free to play it is without a doubt 'play to win' and is eclipsed in quality by it's predecessor.

This game is awesome! the graphics looks like a console game. The game runs very fluid on my phone (Samsung galaxy S6) and it is very fun to play, especially the multiplayer.
It has freemium mechanics like gacha and energy but it is not too hardcored so you can play without get stuck easily.

One of the best current racing games, well ahead of others released in 2013, this game showed great improvements and breakthroughs in every way in the Asphalt saga, Congratulations.

The game falls apart because your progress is hampered by micro transactions that allow you to only buy loot boxes, so you never know what you will get for your money, also 100$ worth of "currency" can be mined with just 3 hours of play which seems really greedy.

The game is great, the micro transactions and progression system basically ruin the game

This game has a good graphic, but it extremely P2W, bad Physic Engine, unfair Multiplayer Matchmaking, so many P2W events, and this game has bad gameplay.
Go play Asphalt 8: Airborne instead, it's way better than this game

the game is super good, but it doesn't have the fast race mode like Asphalt nitro or Asphalt 8: Airborne had and the worst thing is the micropayments, but the game is entertaining.

The game is beautiful graphically and we have almost PS4-level details, but the P2W is too much, which spoils the fun. This game is a game of chance when it comes to buying

I cannot believe how much predatory this game is. It's so sad cuz I remember being so hyped to play Asphalt 6, 7, and 8 back in the day. The previous one was destroyed since it became F2P. This one was born like that and it's even worse.

The factor that made me uninstall the game was the IA. Tell me, what is the point of upgrading your car if the difficulty is going to scale to your level? And worse, they will openly cheat. Sometimes you'll get a major gap from your opponents and they, all of a sudden, spawns behind you and pass you absurdly fast, like your car was stopped. Dude, it's bizarre how much crazy this is. How can my opponent's car be so fast compared to mine if my HP is almost double of required? Just to you lose and restart it.

It's sad to see a beloved franchise being killed like this. I miss old Gameloft.

Asphalt 9: Legends pushes once again the limits of smartphone hardware and mobile gaming, offering cutting edge graphics, a smart control system and a lot of contents to enjoy with. It’s free-to-play and albeit there are the hated in-game purchases, they are totally optional. If you like arcade racing on the go, this game is the way to go.

Asphalt 9: Legends is the best of the series so far. While it may lean a little more toward the casual side of arcade racing, it's still a ton of fun and gorgeous, to boot.

Asphalt 9: Legends is the ultimate episode of a great series of arcade racing game for mobile devices, where gamers can challenge and win against the AI or other players on powerful vehicles, surrounded by amazing landscapes, beautiful graphical details and a cool soundtrack.
