It’s an exciting game. I enjoy games based on language, so I loved playing it. However, if you’re not a fan of language based games, you might want to give it a miss.

If spelling games aren’t your thing, then keep on walking, because AlphaBetty Saga has nothing for you whatsoever. However, if you do dig spelling games, you’ll have no trouble enjoying what AlphaBetty Saga spells out for you.

King tries once again to put another twist on the match-3 or more puzzle genre. Only this time instead of colored pieces it's letters. TheKing tries once again to put another twist on the match-3 or more puzzle genre. Only this time instead of colored pieces it's letters. The game actually has a pretty cool hook. You have to spell out words rather than just matching identical pieces. It makes for a game that requires more actual thinking and strategy than their previous games. However none of that changes the fact that it's still a generic game.

Plenty of other mobile titles have already done this. King is just taking the idea and using the popularity of their name that was brought on by Candy Crush to overshadow the other ones out there. As always that doesn't make it a bad game, but odds are you've seen it before and there isn't much of a reason to give the genre another shot with this title. That's not to say it's without issues though.

As always with these King games not all of the levels focus on the standard match as much as you can with limited moves rounds. Some levels have you trying to drop objects to the bottom of the screen by matching the tiles under it, and others have you trying to pop/break the objects incasing the tiles (bubbles in this case). When these rounds pop up the quality drops significantly. They are just much more tedious to complete and they are usually where the game tries to screw you.

Every now and then they will just have a section of the screen blocked off with consonants. Guess what, that's usually the last area you need to clear. In order to get the board rearranged you need to get rid of all possible combinations. Doing that takes away from your limited number of moves. You aren't going to have enough moves to clear the board. As you can imagine in-app purchases are there to give you more moves and or power ups that will allow you to progress. As a result some levels just come down to blind luck and not skill.

It's a perfectly suitable mobile game if you just have to play a word based match 3 game. However there are plenty of other options out there. Mix that with the fact that it can sometimes be cheap with it's tactics in order to trick you into microtransactions, and you are probably better off going with one of those alternatives. It can be mindlessly entertaining, but the generic nature of it and the occasional grabs it makes at your wallet make it one that shouldn't be anywhere near the top of your to play list.
