Cheat Code CentralI was impressed and did not feel frustrated. I am also happy to point out I did not say "oh man they did not add this or that".
-
Another giant step for this relatively young series.
-
Regardless of how innovative the concept was, more needs to be done to change it up and make it a worthwhile buy for Tony 2 owners.
-
The on-screen skaters control well, but not quite as tightly as the PS2 version of the game. There is a bit more play in this version, with the end result being a control scheme that is slightly looser than one might expect.
-
Electronic Gaming MonthlyVisually, its a dead heat between the GameCube and PS2 versions, but both look fantastic, so who cares? [Jan 2002, p.202]
-
Game InformerEvery bit the masterpiece on GameCube that it was on Playstation 2. [Jan 2002, p.85]
-
For the most part, the graphics and gameplay are identical to its PS2 brother...[but, of course] the revolutionary online component is sadly missing from the Gamecube version.
-
It delivers all the clever, addictive gameplay that a THPS game should, and in higher resolution than ever before.
-
The graphics are pretty close to those of the PS 2 version but clearly some optimizations should have been made for GameCube hardware. The game generally runs fluidly, but slowdown and framerate problems rear their ugly heads noticeably from time to time.
-
An incredibly addictive experience that will see you tying your fingers into great fangled knots of joy. Essential. [GamesMaster Magazine]
-
It has graphics that match, if not pass the PS2 version thanks to a lack of jaggies...Controller aside, it just felt better than the PS2 version.
-
The GameCube version may be less jaggy than the original PS2 release, but its lack of online multiplayer and somewhat sketchy frame rate keep it from living up to its full potential.
-
Even without the online multiplayer offered in the Playstation 2 version Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 is a near-perfect game.
-
There is no doubt about the quality of the series and its playability, but I wish for more: invention, freedom, a camera that behaves and link up play for instance.
-
With a slick combination of pleasing graphics, awesome music, huge environments to explore, and a killer combo control system, the game's replay value flies over the ramp and off the charts.
-
The Hawk may have competition, but it still flies higher than anyone else.
-
GMR MagazineFor those who have the Dual Shock firmly hardwired into their psyche, switching over to the oddly-shpaed GameCube can prove difficult. [Feb 2003, p.96]
-
The best skateboarding game ever but without multiplayer support, it falls a notch behind the PS2 version.
-
I have to recommend the PS2 version of the game over the GameCube one for the simple reasons that the PlayStation's D-Pad ultimately feels a bit better and that the system supports online play.
-
What was already basically perfect from last generations standards, this gets better. From the new re-vert stuff to the great graphics and level design, THPS3 is a must-own.
-
netjakControls are the best out of any of the installments.
-
Nintendo PowerZipping along at 60 frames per second, you almost forget you're looking at a game. [Dec 2001, p.166]
-
The controls have also been polished, and GameCubes controller is put to excellent use. The location of the Y button allows the gamer to press both A and Y, which makes grinding a lot easier, as the gamer must jump with A and grind with Y.
-
Neversoft succeeded by sacrificing some of the polish that could have made the game a better by a smidgen. The framerate and lack of astonishing detail are valid complaints, but should not deter any Gamecube owner from buying this game.
-
It expands on the previous game with new stages, more tricks, an excellent and varied soundtrack and more. It just doesnt have much in the way of innovation.
-
So many games nowadays fall short when it comes to life span, but Tony Hawks Pro Skater 3 is the very definition of value for money.
-
Sadly, the music is rather blander than previous versions of THPS.
