RyanM.Feb 20, 2004This game has NO 1 player fun. You CANNOT play this game by yourself. Most of the time your waiting for computers turns to go by, and this is like in all Mario Party games. It's a multi-player experience, and with that alone this game can be fun.

EduardoR.Oct 21, 2005Nice game to play with friends. Most mini-games are fun easy.

SoulCalibur2Nov 19, 2003Mediocre. The only thing that keeps this series going are the new and fun minigames you hope will come up. Unfortunately, the Mario Party series has been declining steadily. I think MP 3 was the best. Better graphics can only take a game so far...

StarwarsspidermanJan 1, 2004This game is totally amazing! There is so much packed into such a small disc! This one is so much better than Mario Party 4! There are so many mini extras to enjoy when you and your friends want to play!

DaevoLoggerNov 19, 2003I have bought and owned each and everyone of the Mario Party games, but this one is the best ever. Totally awesome characters added in and amazing courses. The extra stuff is crazy fun. I love ICE HOCKEY! The final boss battle against Bowser is sweet and the graphics are better than ever. The tunes are great and I've only stopped playing it to eat, sleep some, and write this review...

Mar 2, 2012Mario Party 5 has new boards, new mini-games, and improved graphics. It continues the Mario party traditions. Even though it is the same old idea, it continues to be fun.
-
Jan 3, 2014Mario Party 5 adds new elements that the series needed. The mini-games are a lot more and have a bigger variety, and the different maps are actually fun to play on. The game made tweaks and now doesn't lack as much as Mario Party 4. Because of that Mario Party 5 is worthy party entertainment game, Possibly one of the better ones on the Game Cube.

Jan 12, 2016This game has varied environments and very few luck based mini-games so if you hate luck based game play you shouldn't worry to much. your skill and patience is what will lead to victory.
-
Nov 3, 2016Mario Party 5 did more. Usual mario party games have 70 to 79 minigames but Mario Party 5 has 88 cause of the duel minigames. There is only 2 bad minigames. Get A Rope and Heat Stroke. But anyways the boards are fun and very memorable and added more great characters, capsules, and a lot of modes. If you want a almost perfect Mario Party game well the 5th is that one.

-
Apr 1, 20179.3 - One of the best in the series, this one adds a few new modes that are mostly coop and fun. The party mode and items are well made and the mini-games are iconic and creative.

Jun 8, 2019Starting To Get Slightly Tiring
Mario Party 5 is still a fun time despite it starting to feel iffy. -
Jun 17, 2017The story mode is creative and brand new. The boards now is like a breeze of fresh air from Mario Party 4. The new minigames clearly are better than what we got from mario party 4. We have new characters and a new gimmick! Capsules! Mario Party 5 is amazing!

Jan 5, 2018This is one of my favorite mario party games, probably cause the minigames, boards, and the graphics are so charming. If I had to describe this game in one word it would be "charming", but this game does have some flaws, cause sometimes the game can get really bland and boring, but most of the time it's a fun game that in my mind is probably in my top 20 best gamecube games.
-
Dec 7, 2017this game definitely goes in my top 3 along with DS and 8.
tip for even more chaos: 50 turns, bonus stars, 4 players and set a rule where you can only overwrite someone else's trap if you have no other choice, and you must use an orb once per turn if you can.
bound for some chaotic fun -

Jan 2, 2020After what we got with Mario Party 4, 5 feels like an afterthought in every way. The boards aren't very interesting, the minigames (with the exception of a couple of them) aren't too great, and it feels like Hudson Soft wasn't really trying. Oh well. There are other 2003 Mario games to play.
-
Jul 6, 2020Great, fun and amazing game! the minigames are really good and out of all entries on the gamecube, I'd recommend this one.

Dec 18, 2022This Mario Party is way too overhated IMO, the soundtrack is amazing and the mini games are varied. The boards, well, they could've been meter, but it's still a great game.
-
Feb 25, 2023In my personal Opinion One of the best Mario Party's but not the best due to the fact that it's just not as good as Mario Party 7

GMR MagazineMinigames, as always, tread a fine line between clever and stupid. [Jan 2004, p.87]
-
games(TM)The biggest enhancements come in the single-player experience - always the worst part of the previous games. This time, Nintendo has clearly put some thought into it and come up with a story mode that actiually has a point, rather than being a player-vs-computer rehash of Party mode. [Jan 2004, p.113]
-
Edge MagazineWere spirits to play a game while they waited in Purgatory, surely it would be Mario Party. It can take an age to get to the end, and the minigames are interspersed with a turgid board game section that tests the patience to its limits. [Jan 2004, p.109]
