    minigames are fun
    extra modes are neat
card party is the best side mode ever made
battle mode where u battle with mechs.... i don't know why this exists but im glad its here

This game has NO 1 player fun. You CANNOT play this game by yourself. Most of the time your waiting for computers turns to go by, and this is like in all Mario Party games. It's a multi-player experience, and with that alone this game can be fun.

When i got bored of mario party 4, i found mario party 5, i didn't even know how to feel when i started playing, it was like a new experience, 3 more playable characters in 'party mode', all these different capsules, in fact i barely even play mario party 4 anymore, it was also smart that DK had became an ally instead of a playable character and helps you (especially in When i got bored of mario party 4, i found mario party 5, i didn't even know how to feel when i started playing, it was like a new experience, 3 more playable characters in 'party mode', all these different capsules, in fact i barely even play mario party 4 anymore, it was also smart that DK had became an ally instead of a playable character and helps you (especially in story mode) when you step in a 'DK space' which was new to mario party and it also reminds me of mario party 2 on the N64 with the past items like golden mushroom and normal mushrooms. Story mode isn't much of a letdown and at least it is not overly as long as mario party 4 story mode is, thank heavens. Expand

Mediocre. The only thing that keeps this series going are the new and fun minigames you hope will come up. Unfortunately, the Mario Party series has been declining steadily. I think MP 3 was the best. Better graphics can only take a game so far...

This game is totally amazing! There is so much packed into such a small disc! This one is so much better than Mario Party 4! There are so many mini extras to enjoy when you and your friends want to play!

I have bought and owned each and everyone of the Mario Party games, but this one is the best ever. Totally awesome characters added in and amazing courses. The extra stuff is crazy fun. I love ICE HOCKEY! The final boss battle against Bowser is sweet and the graphics are better than ever. The tunes are great and I've only stopped playing it to eat, sleep some, and write this review...

Mario Party 5 has new boards, new mini-games, and improved graphics. It continues the Mario party traditions. Even though it is the same old idea, it continues to be fun.

Mario Party 5 adds new elements that the series needed. The mini-games are a lot more and have a bigger variety, and the different maps are actually fun to play on. The game made tweaks and now doesn't lack as much as Mario Party 4. Because of that Mario Party 5 is worthy party entertainment game, Possibly one of the better ones on the Game Cube.

Mejor de lo que imaginé en un principio. Mucho mas largo también. Los tableros y los minijuegos eran realmente divertidos, jugándolo solo o con gente, no importa, este juego no es la obra maestra de Mario pero es mucho mejor de lo que parece.

This game has varied environments and very few luck based mini-games so if you hate luck based game play you shouldn't worry to much. your skill and patience is what will lead to victory.

Mario Party 5 did more. Usual mario party games have 70 to 79 minigames but Mario Party 5 has 88 cause of the duel minigames. There is only 2 bad minigames. Get A Rope and Heat Stroke. But anyways the boards are fun and very memorable and added more great characters, capsules, and a lot of modes. If you want a almost perfect Mario Party game well the 5th is that one.

9.3 - One of the best in the series, this one adds a few new modes that are mostly coop and fun. The party mode and items are well made and the mini-games are iconic and creative.

The story mode is creative and brand new. The boards now is like a breeze of fresh air from Mario Party 4. The new minigames clearly are better than what we got from mario party 4. We have new characters and a new gimmick! Capsules! Mario Party 5 is amazing!

This is one of my favorite mario party games, probably cause the minigames, boards, and the graphics are so charming. If I had to describe this game in one word it would be "charming", but this game does have some flaws, cause sometimes the game can get really bland and boring, but most of the time it's a fun game that in my mind is probably in my top 20 best gamecube games.

this game definitely goes in my top 3 along with DS and 8.
tip for even more chaos: 50 turns, bonus stars, 4 players and set a rule where you can only overwrite someone else's trap if you have no other choice, and you must use an orb once per turn if you can.

    bound for some chaotic fun

Mario Party 5 had a lot of potential mainly cause you think the developers saw what they did wrong with MP4 and make the game even better than that was well...there were in the right place but they didnt pull it out well. The mechanic is good on paper but playing with it sucks, luckily MP6 fixed it! Mario Party 5 is completely average. The big offender is the boards, they are some of the worst i have ever seen in the Mario Party franchise [but at least your not all in a car, looking at you MP 9 and 10]. Everything else is your average fare, minigames, star-collecting, all that.
Overall, theres no need to play this if you have MP 4, 6 or 7. If you going to pick a MP on the GameCube,

After what we got with Mario Party 4, 5 feels like an afterthought in every way. The boards aren't very interesting, the minigames (with the exception of a couple of them) aren't too great, and it feels like Hudson Soft wasn't really trying. Oh well. There are other 2003 Mario games to play.

It’s too bad DK isn’t playable but it was an interesting experimental concept that worked well. The boards look much more different from each other and are a big step up from the previous game. They’re all very fun and interesting, such as Sweet Dream, Toy Dream and Pirate Dream. Team matches return from Mario Party 4 and every pair of characters has their own custom team name which was pretty funny. Items are replaced with capsules but they essentially work the same way. The difference is that you get them randomly, but they are free. I’d rather be able to choose which capsule I want sometimes but they don’t cost any coins which evens it out. Either way they are fun to use for messing up others! There are some extra modes which spice things up as always. The minigame selection is very good with some great stand out ones such as Coney Island, Pushy Penguins and Hotel Goomba. This was a great entry to the series, and it, along with Mario Parties 6 and 7, are what truly define the awesomeness of Mario Party to me! Expand

Mario Party 5 is the series starting to show it's age now. When I reviewed 1, 2, 3 and 4, I didn't complain at all about the age of it. However, Mario Party 5 has no shame in showing that the Mario Party formula should get swapped a bit. The end result in Hudson Soft trying to change things up is a Mario Party game that does innovate... in the way that it has no soul in it. The end result in Hudson Soft trying to change things up is a Mario Party game that does innovate... in the way that it has no soul in it. The boards have lame design and Paper Mario's Star Spirits just seems like a way for 1 single person on this planet who bought an N64, played Paper Mario, then bought a GameCube, played Mario Party 5, got to a certain stage then pointed at the TV and said 'Hey, I know those guys.' then played a more interesting game.
So, overall, if you just want a Mario Party, nothing gratifying or game-changing, you'll enjoy this one. Not to say I didn't enjoy this one. It's still fun with friends, continues the great minigame trend from Mario Party 4 and has some new items that make stuff fun but it's far from the best game ever made.

The biggest enhancements come in the single-player experience - always the worst part of the previous games. This time, Nintendo has clearly put some thought into it and come up with a story mode that actiually has a point, rather than being a player-vs-computer rehash of Party mode. [Jan 2004, p.113]

Were spirits to play a game while they waited in Purgatory, surely it would be Mario Party. It can take an age to get to the end, and the minigames are interspersed with a turgid board game section that tests the patience to its limits. [Jan 2004, p.109]
