The final of the classic Mario party games. Truly a masterful conversion to the GameCube story graphics and gameplay. It’s surprisingly shocking just how well this game works and I feel it’s a bit underlooked compared to the original 3 games. Trust me though, you may be shocked at how good it really is.

This game is basically Mario Party perfected before they started messing with the core game mechanics in later entries

The first of the many GameCube Mario Parties. My favourite part of this one is the minigame selection, as it is the best in the entire franchise. They all feel a bit different and I love the different themes of each one such as an amusement park and a casino, but they all look too similar and have some annoying flaws. My biggest gripe is that you can get stuck in an area and the only way to get out is by some random luck, which can take many turns and it’s not fun. The core gameplay is pretty decent but a little slow paced. There are no new playable characters, keeping the roster the same as Mario Party 3 which is a little disappointing. A big mechanic in this game is the mushroom spaces, where if you land on one you can either grow really big or shrink, and it can lead to some interesting strategies. The items once again are fun and help to freshen up the gameplay. This is a very solid entry and good to start off the best era of the series being the GameCube era, but it has its fair share of flaws, which makes it my least favourite of those ones. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The worst Mario party game in the whole series besides the 3ds ones, the only reason this game gets any Upside to it is because of the story mode and final boss. Which were both just fun inclusions to the Somewhat okay story, but the stages and mini games were Both just completely Unfun. Especially if you get the bowser powerup which makes you take 30 coins from anyone you land on but luckily. You can't buy it in shop, and I think it's super rare to get but still. I Would Recommend it to any giant Mario party fans like the sub games are fun like theirs an oil one and a doctor one. Overall, I didn't like it that much but if you did good for you. Expand

The best on the GCN and one of the best in the series overall, Mario Party 4 had the best graphics in the whole series up to Mario Party 9. Hell, it'd be worth it playing through DAMN AIRSHIP CENTRAL from Mario Party 10 just to witness these amazing minigames (except of course the water gun one). There's really not that much else to say, just, if you have or want a Gamecube then get some Mario Party games for it. Except for Mario Party 6 and 7's special big boxes, they really haven't shot up in value yet, so get your sweaty, greasy hands on a copy before it's too late. Expand

A solid Mario Party entry, with a reasonably wide variety of minigames and several boards to choose from at first glance. However, this entry can get stale somewhat quick, as the boards are not particularly dynamic, and the minigames tend to be rehashes of previous minigames.

Overall, nice to play for a few runs, but easily forgettable (especially with the newer sequels).

Mario Party 4 is a fun and enjoyable game to play with friends and family. A great follow-up to the first 3 Mario Parties on the N64, this one packs a good deal of content, and upgrades, and more.
So grab some friends, grab a contoller and have some fun with Mario and friends.

The last great Mario Party game! This one continues with the same rules and fashion as Mario Party 3 but with updated graphics and a different variety of boards.

Most of the minigames are simple and a lot of fun but there are a small handful that are just dreadful.

Great Gamecube game a must have for multiplayer nights!

Although I prefer Mario Party 1 and 2, This is still a solid game with good maps and fun party minigames. Out of all the gamecube games I would recommend this one after Mario Party 5 but be sure to play the first two before because these are the best.

I mean, its mario party all right. Nothing necessarily bad about it, but nothing special enough to warrant playing it over Mario Party 6 [apart from the price, as MP 4 is half the price of MP 6].
Overall, if you want some Mario Party action and cant afford 6, then it will do the job. if you have Mario Party 6 all ready, dont bother with it, unless you want more mini-games of course

The best game in the series, hands down. The first three games are great but dated. Mario Party 4 is almost always the one that I want to go back to and even the single player mode is very good. It is a lot more fun than the Wii / Wii U games which were very underwhelming. The only other games in the series that are on par with MP4 are MP7 and Super Mario Party.

Mario Party 4 is decent...but has flaws. Most of the minigames are good I will agree, but the flaws I have with this game is the a.i seems way too hard in this game, left oar right...enough said, bland boards, mediocre story, not much to see or do after the game is beaten. But, everything else besides those big flaws is pretty good, like the graphics, the minigames, and the board gimmicks.

Standard Mario Party fare. The gameplay formula of this sub-series is solid, and this game is no different. It doesn't offer enough to set it apart from it's predecessors, apart from boasting better visuals, but the mechanics of the Mario Party series are already solid. Multiplayer is the only way to go, as usual for Mario Party, and it doesn't disappoint. However, after playing the gameStandard Mario Party fare. 1, 2, 3 were amazing will the fourth installment be better? No. The story mode is bland. But what about the boards and the minigames those are the most important part of the game! Well the boards are great except for...one, I hate Goomba's Greedy Gala! The minigames are hit or miss. So overall Mario Party 4 is decent but is basically Mario Party 3 but less greater.

Looking back on all the Mario Parties made, it's clear to say this one's the dumbest. There's barely no point to the game, and the mini-games are the worst in the franchise. This is the point in the Mario Party games started getting repetitive. After Mario Party 4, they just all began to get worse and worse. This is the last great Mario Party, however it's not as good as the ones on the N64.

At first glance the Mario Party games have changed very little from the 1999 N64 original through to Mario Party 8 on the Nintendo Wii. This title of course follows much the same template as all the others with Mario and his pals moving around an interactive board game in order to collect stars and coins, the winner being the person who collects the most within a set number of turns.

This title of course follows much the same template as all the others with Mario and his pals moving around an interactive board game in order to collect stars and coins, the winner being the person who collects the most within a set number of turns.

A series of free for all, 2 vs. 2 and 3 vs. 1 mini-games take place after each round of turns. Depending on your performance you are awarded coins that can be used to purchase items to aid you in gaining more valuable stars. Most of these mini-games are brand new and the majority are good fun to play. What makes Mario Party 4 the best in the series is that this time around victory depends less on luck than its prequels and sequels. Players skilled at winning mini-games and playing tactically will find that they will win far more often than their opponents and the game is more enjoyable for it.

The only negative is that to get the best from the game you really need to have the maximum of four players. Empty spaces are filled by moronic CPU opponents who are no help whatsoever during the team based mini-games and they quickly drain the fun from the game. Since it is compatible with the Wii I would highly recommend picking up this title.

Mario Party 4 is a cavalcade of brillantly wacky and fun mini games condensed with excellent 3 Dimensional graphics and hilarious animated characters, such as Mario, luigi, Wario, Yoshi and loads more. The best bit about this game is the mini games themselves, almost 100 fantastic mini ganmes that we keep you and your friends entertained for hours on end. You can play in teams, on your own or 3 against 1, all three of which are wonderful. Some of the best mini games include basketball, avalanche, booksquirm, GOAL and Blame it on the Crane.
My one critism with this game is that it is not half as fun when you are playing on your own but it is a real hoot with friends and family. The party starts as soon as you buy it.

After 3 games, is getting old. Feels boring because of the lack of new game mechanics. One thing sure: if you play with friends, is still very funny. The main problems are the reduced number of mini games (maybe around 70) and the reduced number of playing zones.

  1. The mini-games have different faces but they play ostensibly the same, and even with the visuals buffed to a sparkle the overall effect is very much ‘more of the same’.
  2. Does exactly what it sets out to do, and as such it comes highly recommended to anyone with more than one controller to their name.

The minigames are just as goofy as ever, with only one or two clunkers amid dozens of fun challenges. [Nov 2002, p.218]
