Instead of actually exploring the source material and making something truly fun and imaginative, they simply make something just to push it out. THQ was well-known back in their heyday for publishing a large amount of licensed games, most of which were based on Nickelodeon TV shows. And in 2003, THQ assigned Blitz Games (another now-defunct developer that was known almost entirely for licensed games) with the task of making a game based on "The Fairly OddParents," one of my personal favorite cartoons (if we disregard the later seasons). And thus, "The Fairly OddParents: Breakin' Da Rules" was born. And...well, it's competent, if nothing else.
    "The Fairly OddParents: Breakin' Da Rules," fundamentally speaking, is solid. It works, it's got some moments of charm, some catchy music, and for the most part, it feels like the show. Blitz Games clearly respected the original cartoon and, as a result, they created a game that feels like multiple episodes of the show (in a good way). There are also plenty of visual gags that serve as call-backs to the show that make this a pretty entertaining romp.
    That said, while the game is fundamentally sound, it doesn't really take risks. The game is basically your standard collect-a-thon 3D platformer, each level featuring some kind of new way to play that can help spice things up and provide variety. It doesn't break new molds or try to do anything unique, it simply serves the purpose of being a game based on the popular TV show. On top of that, the character models are not the prettiest (transitioning from 2D to 3D can do that to you), the visuals in general are nothing special, and the game starts to lose its luster after a while. While it starts off considerably well, the game eventually becomes a bit boring and it gets capped off by an extremely easy and bland final boss fight. Instead of ending with a bang, or even a whimper, the game merely decides to shrug its shoulders, mutter an unenthusiastic "eh," and just end.
    All told, "The Fairly OddParents: Breakin' Da Rules" is not a bad game at all, it's just nothing too special. It's a standard 3D platformer that so happens to star Timmy Turner and his trusty fairies Cosmo and Wanda. If you're a fan of the show, you might get a kick out of it if you can find it for a decent price. While it might not be worth playing over and over again, it's got some charm to it. Give it a shot, but again, only if you can find it for a decent price.
