I am definitely baffled as to how this game has been placed lower than other spider-man titles.
Having played every spider-man title on the DS, i can confidently state that this is by far the best of them all.
True, the game itself is a basic 2d side scroller (which is what works for this kinda game, tho some want that 3d malarkey), but the graphics are stunning for a hand held.

As well, the controls are solid, and loose enough to create some customizable combos to deliver web fueled ass kicking.
The games story is decent, although not winning any prizes. However, it is a bit short, but hey, its best to keep these kinds of games quick and simple.
All in all a great time and something you can get friends addicted to.

    Good:
    -Tight control
-smooth character movements -Stealing from Metroid Bad: -Tedious battles, even with new moves -enemies lack distinctiveness, which makes the battles more tedious -constantly regenerating enemies (while your attack power stays the same, enemies grow stronger with more hit points. So battles last much longer. Tapping button endlessly makes the experience

    -Hard to distinguish entrance/path
-Environments look too samey (lack of variety in color and mood)
-Same music repeats over and over (music changes only when you encounter enemies/bosses but even that gets old quickly)
    -overall experience=tiring

Nice effort but no cigar. Reviewers giving 90 are too generous or they are well-paid.

Spider-Man: Web of Shadows is a good game, considering that it seemed destined for mediocrity. However, it turns out to be a great game. The graphics are definitely good for the DS. It's main fault is the tedious gameplay itself. The game itself is not difficult or long; merely tedious. Combined with several levels that look relatively similar, going back and forth through these levels can feel like a chore. In the end, though, Web of Shadows turns out to be a great superhero game on the DS, and just a good game even compared to others like it. I wouldn't play it more than needed, though. Expand

    Great game!
Fun and fluid combat when learned properly. Great enemy variety with just the right ammount of annoying ones and challenging ones. Bosses are challenging but unfortunately just generic "Super Symbiotes", unlike the venomized heroes and villians we got in the PC/Console version. The final boss is just annoying IMO, but beatable.
The only massive drawback of this game is that

The only massive drawback of this game is that it is really short, in my first playthrough after years of not playing took me 4-5 hours, whilst the second one took me 3 hours, whilst messing around with the excellent combat.
Overall an awesome game, worth playing just for the fun combat, so awesome that I'm looking to play other Griptonite games.

great combat, good eye on the metroidvania genre, even if some enemy are recolors and there is alot of reused content its still one of the most fun exprience and a potential best way to show how good a spider-man metroid vania can be even on a nintendo ds

A marked improvement over Amazing Spider-Man thanks to improved graphics, better level design and upgradable skills but it's still a pretty bog-standard platform beat 'em up.

Maybe this is the best Spider-Man game available for DS, much better than the PS2 and PSP version, that's for sure, please give it a try.

  1. Web of Shadows takes Spider-Man into new territory with an enjoyable action adventure romp that's over too soon.

Once again, DS owners prevail. Console owners have to deal with a sloppy 3D experience, but on the handheld we get ourselves a tight and satisfying experience that has nothing to do with the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, or Wii games of the same name.
  3. Sadly, for as great a game as Web of Shadows is on the DS, it is over far too quickly and leaves you with no immediate reason to revisit anytime soon.
