Rayman's original adventure is still a blast, and it's nice to take a break from all those screaming Rabbids. Welcome back, Rayman.

Sacrificing gameplay to save graphics is a big no-no for us. A disappointing port. [Feb 2010, p.87]
  3. Had Rayman not been so annoyingly cheap then it would be a highly recommended platformer. Unfortunately, it is annoyingly cheap and should only be traversed by those with either a masochistic streak or diehard Rayman fans.

There are almost too many flaws to list. It was obvious they made it impossibly difficult because when it came out they just wanted you to pump quarters into arcade machines. This game relies all on trial and error and endless repetition to inflate game length. There is little skill involved. So many parts you have no idea what happens next until you die. It only gives you a few lives and forces you to complete multiple stages before beating a level. If you have to restart you must do all the stages again. It is impossible to get far without cheating, which is super sloppy game design. Also, the game is vastly inconsistent. I would do the same thing 20 times and it would be different each time. Sometimes it would make me slide or not slide at the same part or grab a ledge or not, or a host of other things. Then there are level which ice which are impossible because of how terrible the ice is. There are other levels in complete darkness. Some levels and tons of checkpoints and others have none at all or only one. It makes no sense. The boss fight where you can get hit only 2 times and you have to fight 3 bosses in a row is another form of stupidity. This needs to have regular checkpoints and save points like a normal game. No joy whatsoever from playing. Forcing you to do 20 things right and if you mess up you auto-die because the game is all just endless pits means you have to keep doing it over and over. This is a waste of time. Only good parts are loveable character, music, and environments. Crash bandicoot was an example of how to do platforming and be tough at the same time but still fun. This is the exact opposite in every way. I did play on ps3 but there is no version of that so this is the best I could find. There's a reason ubisoft montpelier still isn't around, crap products like this. Enjoy the review! Full Review »

Very nice port of a very nice game. Just the controls aren't as flawless as I used to on PC with a SideWinder Gamepad.

It's incredibly difficult, but not in a challenging way. It's more about memorizing the levels and knowing what's coming next. This was great when I was a kid with only one good game on my PC, but difficult to enjoy now. Full Review »
