This is Mariokart at its finest. This is Nintendos best idea at a Mariokart game, despite it decent graphics for the DS, the gameplay is astinoshing, in this game you find some of the best maps in the whole of the Mariokart series also packed with incredible soundtracks and even after you finish the prix you can play missions which is perfect addition to the game. If you just got a DS buy this.

DS has a good amount of modes and online was probably good back then but these are reasons why its worth going back too. 1. Is that all the characters are good even though I will admit Dry bones and rob are a bit of an odd inclusion but I don't mind (probably because dry bones is the best in my opinion) and the track them self are either the best tracks in the franchise or the worse. Now hear me out figure 8 circuit and shroom ridge and etc. aren't bad by any mean but compared o other tracks in the game and in the entirely of the franchise these tracks are pretty forgettable but when they are good here good like waluigi pinball, Luigi's mansion, Delfino square, etc. and this game introduced retro tracks which have been a stable since and gives more replay value. 2. Battle mode is great though compared to double dash there are less modes and the tracks are fine but really the only one I'm going back to are block fort Tho driving on a DS isn't bad. The mode present are balloon battle and newly added shine runners which are both good on their own right and this entry is the first one being able to play by yourself with coms. 3. A reason why you should come back to this entry is because exclusive to DS is mission mode which are 6 levels all with little challenge in each level and when you finish all the challenge there a boss fight and when you beat them you go onto the next level and it's a great addition to the single player side of Mario kart and surprisingly hasn't been in ant future Mario kart games. 4. A couple little thing left like your able to make an emblem that you may see during a race but its still a nice little edition plus the game did introduce online play to the series which had only some tracks you could play (at least that's what I heard). So at the end of the day even with those couple flaws with the game ill still give it a 10 because of a pretty balanced yet wacky races it has plus some exclusives not even in modern titles and some of the most memorable/least memorable in the entire franchise so either way you should get the game already! Actually wait 9.9 they mad baby park 5 laps (but because I can't do decimals ill round it up to 10) Expand

One of the highlights of the DS library and the game which defined the standards for future MK games. Great and memorable tracks, small but solid character roster, sneaking mechanics, and the only appearance of battle mode in MK's history. Despite the years it hasn't aged poorly and can still be great fun to pick up and play.

This mario kart have really addictive gameplay! The IA can be very challenging and the courses are versatile with many shortcuts. Visually and content wise of course it us not the best game of all mario kart but handling of the vehicles and fast gameplay is really made this game special. I was surprised how much fun I actually had with this game. Must play for Mario kart fans!

Mario Kart 8 deluxe may be a great, but Mario Kart ds is the best in the series. Yes, you read that right, I think this game is better than Mario kart 8 deluxe and the overrated Mario kart Wii. The controls are perfect; the character roster is perfect, the graphics were decent for the ds, and the tracks are great. The Nitro tracks are very creative and have so many references o past games in the series. This was the first game in the series to properly introduce retro tracks, and for a first try, they did pretty well. Yes, they have been stripped down, but they had to so the ds could handle it. I will say though, this game ruined GCN (Game cube Nintendo system) Baby part and made one of the worst tracks in the series. They shortened it from 7 laps to 5 and made it really bland. Thankfully though, it's the only dud in this masterpiece of a kart racer. There's nothing to dislike about this game, it's a must buy. The mission mode is great, and I wonder why they still haven't brought it bad to this day and the battle mode is perfect in this game. The multi-player and single player vs mode is fantastic as well. This game came out when Nintendo actually cared about their mascot and in a time where they weren't lazy. Too bad they got worse as time went along. Overall, this game is a 10/10. Expand

This Mario Kart had a huge graphical update, as the DS could at least try to do 3d, while the GBA couldn’t at all. The presentation isn’t the star of the show here, but it’s certainly quite good. This game is oozing with content. There are tons of single player unlockables, all found through racing. My favorite unlockable is Waluigi, but I don’t remember how to get him. You could also play as R.O.B if you tried enough. The single player modes are the greatest in the series. You can complete missions to get unlockables. They all have challenge, and while you could rage at them, they were fun. There were lots of online stuff to do, like share your best times on tracks, battle modes (My favorite) and, actual racing.

I’m at a loss of words to explain why this game is so good. I think this is the best Mario Kart game. Praise Waluigi Pinball!!

While the visuals of this title do not hold up very well these days, this is peak Mario Kart, the best mechanics, pioneer in legacy tracks, and the beloved mission mode which is still exclusive to this game. If you can look past the blocky and pixelated textures, there is a ton to enjoy here.

This was the first Mario Kart to introduce retro tracks (not including Super Circuit) and while I wasn’t a fan of a lot of the choices and a few of them (the GCN ones) were downgrades, it was a huge step forward for the franchise. The character roster is a downgrade from the previous entry due to it being a handheld, but there were a couple unique additions being Dry Bones and the bizzare choice of R.O.B. The core gameplay is fun and it controls well. While some people hate snaking, you gotta admit it’s awesome to be able to control your drift! My favourite thing about this game is the missions with so many different tasks like collecting coins, driving through tires and boss fights! I hope this mode comes back one day. The graphics are a bit pixelated but the game looked good for the DS at the time. There are some memorable tunes from this game especially one in particular (Waluigi Pinball). It was the first game to introduce online even though the Wii’s was the first to gain popularity. There is a cool extra feature where you can customize your emblem on your car which is unique to this game. The new items are a mixed bag, with the blooper which is completely useless and I have no idea why they kept it around, and the bullet bill which was epic and the best item of all time! The battle mode is great and you can finally play it in single player mode against computers! There are some fun new stages and a couple of retro ones including Pipe Plaza. This might be one of the better Mario Kart games in the series, and it’s jam packed with fun! Expand

Sometimes it feels more like a shooter or fighting game when there are intense item battles. Please don't hate me for this, but I don't even hate the blue shell. Of course it is frustrating for players who are excellent at racing and always get the top spot right away. However, if it is a suspenseful, balanced race, where you have to struggle to get to the first position, it can actually help you just as much.

The minimap on the DS is absolutely brilliant, one thing that Mario Kart 8 is missing. Also, the drifting feels very satisfying, better than in the sequels. You have to give your D-pad a little jerk to spark the boost, it actually feels like lighting a match or a lighter. The stages also strike the perfect balance between detailed and simple. A lot of the sequels have tracks that feel more like labyrinths, or have you racing upside down or other weird stuff. I enjoyed the linear design of this game far more, the few secret short cuts actually feel special because there's not five of them in every track.
The crown jewel of the game is obviously the balloon mode. Fighting with the items is actually more fun than racing. Of course the graphics are very old and crappy, but the courses still look good enough, and the characters drive by so fast that you won't even pay much attention to their appearance. The gameplay is just so fast and so much fun that is doesn't matter.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. While trying to get into the Crash Team Racing remake for the Nintendo Switch, I was struggling to get into the diverse control scheme, all it did was make miss Mario Kart. It was by knows means a bad game, I just wasn't ready to put the effort in to get better. And I wasn't just missing any old Mario Kart game..I was missing my first Mario Kart game. Another one of those lost gem games from the early 2000's. It's quite a wonderful experience to play through this adventure. After seeing the trailer for Mario Kart 7, I was hyped as hell to play it. But to my surprise, I actually had more fun playing the DS version. While 7 has better looks, DS is underrated brilliance. While returning to this lost treasure I had a new goal of unlocking all of the hidden characters. And this game has a very nice selection, we have Daisy and Waluigi from Double Dash, Dry Bones makes his debut, and this the only Mario Kart game where you can play as ROB. In order to unlock this lineup, you need to clear streams of cups while coming in first. And you won't just be obtaining new characters, you'll also be given new karts to use. See, it's not the characters weight that determines the stats for things like speed and weight, in this game it's just the kart. After clearing a majority of the cups, you can choose whatever kart you want for your character. This isn't a big deal today, but its more vital here. Peach can race in Bowser's car and Bowser can race in Peach's car, you can select your favorite characters with any kind of speed level. That's a pretty nice feature I must say, you can also confuse rookie players through download play and cruise down the road with Toad on Dry Bones' creepy Banisher kart. Their's tons of things you can do to stand out during co-op mode. Create your fun emblem with classic DS pixel art, play as the exclusive character Shy Guy, and play like a ninja assassin in Balloon Battle, waiting for the perfect moment to strike. Seriously, everything is just so nice in this game, its like trying great sushi for the first time. You can race along classic and new courses with a Super Mario 64 DS theme. Heck we can even fight bosses from 64 DS in this game in mission mode! All of this great stuff gives the game a sense of identity. Its great stuff worth returning to, that's what makes a truly wonderful game. It's an interesting experience to return to this game with a New Nintendo 2DS control scheme. It isn't perfect, but I think its easier to play games like 64 DS and Kart DS with a circle pad. I'm used to my Wii U game pad control scheme from playing Mario Kart 8 with my sisters. And it just feels more comfortable. In fact returning to classic DS game is just a wonderful feeling. I'm old enough to understand my own generation of nostalgia and back in the day DS games shined with excellent remakes and excellent Pokemon sequels. This game in particular is giving everything its got to be awesome. With every mini turbo, is a sign of hope. Hope telling you that some day you can cross the finish line in first place. I still remember owning a DS with a broken right button and that dream was impossible for a while. But after seeing the collection of credits form clearing all of the cups and the true ending from clearing the mirror cups, its a reminder of how far I've come as a gamer. I also adore that you get a new title screen after clearing the mirror cups. With every loss frustration hits me, but I just kept going and the journey just made me feel alive. God that opening theme song is awesome! During my journey I started off with Bowser power in the 50CC cups. But I've move on to better control and acceleration with Daisy and Dry Bones as things got faster. And I'm really glad that my old favorite character from Mario Party 7 became my best character. With the freedom of performing multiple drifting speed boosts, I wasn't too far away from reaching crazy ultimate speed in the 150CC cup. Things get tricky in the 150CC Cup either I was a slipping up or the drivers are programmed to be faster than you, even though I still hadn't unlocked the fabled ROB...I just kept on trucking. Why? Because this is one of those brilliant tough but fair games. Let's not forget that even after you unlock everything you can challenge Game Designer Ghosts and complete all sorts of missions. And let's not forget earning perfect scores during racing challenges. It's a Mario Kart game, of course it's going to be awesome. What keeps this game from getting a higher score? Well...games like Mario Kart 7 and 8 are superior when it comes to control and graphics. But DS makes up for that with great variety. Someday, both new and old Mario Kart elements will combine and will get one whopper of a game. It's important that with every game purchase comes a box of memories to return too. Even after 100 percenting a game gamers will still return because games are just meant to be replayed, remastered, recreated. This game is a pedal to the metal dream Expand

Mario Kart's formula has proven to be an incredibly fun multiplayer experience. Mario Kart DS is that except its portable, in true 3D, and has wireless multiplayer. Carrying around that experience was refreshing back then. Even just playing the Grand Prix single player was awesome fun. If not then there are missions and time trials. The missions were really simple though, nothing deep. The turbo drift mechanic was done great. Inputs for it felt natural and just difficult enough that it felt satisfying to pull off. The AI and item usage programming was done well. Rarely did I feel completely left behind as 8th, as I still had a chance to catch up with good items. And I couldn't feel completely safe in 1st, as I might get hit by an item.

The map on the bottom screen was well made. Was simple enough, and icons were big enough for me to glance at and locate opponent positions. SNES wasn't done well, because of the map angle, and the unnecessary large kart icons.

The controls however, had issues. Holding L to keep a shell behind me was difficult, because the DS itself doesn't feel good to hold when pressing too many buttons. When drifting, holding a shell, and accelerating, I'm crunching my hands holding 3 buttons at the same time. My hands would cramp up quickly. I just end up not holding shells behind me, which was unfortunate, because I missed out on an important defensive mechanic. There were times when I could've protected myself with a shell, but couldn't because it was too painful to hold L. Though this was a hardware limitation. There wasn't any remapping I could think of that the devs could have set to fix the issue.

This game most definitely caused many detentions for students playing it during class under their desk..

Until the release of Mario Kart 8 on the Wii U/Switch this DS iteration of remained my favourite in the long running series. The track design and gameplay are excellent as always but, for me at least, Mario Kart DS struck the best balance between luck and rewarding skilful driving. My friends and I lost many hours to this game for a very good reason!

Nintendo's Mario Kart series is quite literally what started the character-racing genre back in 1992, and even after countless clones and copycats from other designers and publishers throughout the past 13 years the spotlight's always on the company to move the genre forward. There are high expectations from gamers whenever Nintendo announces a new game in the series, and that's exactlyNintendo's Mario Kart series is quite literally what started the character-racing genre back in 1992, and even after countless clones and copycats from other designers and publishers throughout the past 13 years the spotlight's always on the company to move the genre forward. There are high expectations from gamers whenever Nintendo announces a new game in the series, and that's exactly what's happening with Mario Kart DS. Nintendo's pulled out all the stops for this "next generation" Mario Kart sequel, and though it's a handheld game, there's nothing small about this design. There's absolutely not a doubt in my mind: Mario Kart DS is the greatest Mario Kart game ever, which, in turn, makes it the greatest Kart racer game ever created.

Mario Kart DS's production value is almost staggering. The development team worked an unbelievable amount of focus in nearly every aspect of this racing design, pushing a huge amount of effort in both the single player experience as well as the multiplayer competition. The gameplay depth is absolutely stunning -- Mario Kart DS is incredibly deep in features, so don't be surprised if you forget about some options because some other mode grabbed you by the crotch and refuses to let go. And that's a good thing.

The DS game admittedly has a lot to live up to, what with the game following only two years after the GameCube game that many people (myself included) believed that went too far away from the original game's feel. But this portable game brings the series back to the basics of what made the original Super Mario Kart so awesome, with the development team balancing and tweaking the gameplay so intricately that it's near impossible to find any hard fault with the design.

If you've missed any of the Mario Kart games in the series' past, shame on you. The series has never been about realistic racing, but that's its charm -- players still have to employ some proper racing skill and strategy, but the power-up element can throw off even the best driver. These power-ups are the gameplay's "equalizer;" there's nothing more humbling than taking a turtle shell up the tailpipe, or being knocked down to second from a well-positioned banana peel. Many companies have tried to best the classic Mario Kart design with their own take, but none have had the gameplay succeed as well as Nintendo.

Mario Kart DS is, at its core, the "best of the Mario Kart best." Nintendo's designers clearly took a good, long, hard look at what made each game in the series the classic Kart design the franchise has been known for. It's not just in the course designs, either; granted, half of the tracks in Mario Kart DS are "reprints" from the past Mario Kart games on the Super NES, N64, Game Boy Advance, and GameCube, but that's only half the nostalgia. The kart mechanics, handling, and techniques are a mishmash of elements from all games in the series, from the kart hopping of the SNES original to the powersliding and boosting from the GameCube sequel. As a result of this focus, the racing design of Mario Kart DS is remarkably tight and responsive with tons of strategy that are both apparent and hidden, and even with weeks out on the courses you still may find one or two techniques that'll take a few ticks off the clock. After experiencing Mario Kart DS, it's hard to imagine how Nintendo's going to improve on what they've done for this stunning portable rendition. There's so much gameplay and depth in this design, moreso than the series has ever had in the past. It's an amazingly addictive racer both in single and multiplayer modes, and even with the limitations of the online functions, it's impossible to avoid becoming addicted to the long distance Mario Kart match-ups. The only way to finish this review is just to say it: this is the greatest Mario Kart game ever developed, and is without a doubt the best DS game of 2005. This Is My childhood and best Mario kart game ever!

I think this is probably my favorite Mario Kart title. It has great controls, a good selection of characters and plenty of modes to keep you entertained for a pretty long time. The game has more characters than any Mario Kart before it, and it also introduces Retro Cups: 16 tracks from previous Mario Kart games, adding to a total of 32 tracks, more than any MK game before it. There's even a series of missions to complete, including a bunch of boss fights. What else can you ask from a Mario Kart game?

The game is very fun to play alone. Another single-player mode that is worth mentioning is Battle Mode, which is surprisingly addictive and entertaining. Online modes are also present, and they're obviously a ton of fun. Playing Mario Kart DS with your friends is always a blast.

So overall, this is pretty much everything you could expect from a Mario Kart game. Tons of fun, a good amount of content, great multiplayer options... definitely a must have for any DS owner. I really don't know what to criticize here. Maybe the graphics look a little bit unpolished compared to other DS titles, but It's no big deal. It doesn't detract from the experience at all.

It gets quite difficult on single player 150cc, where coming first requires immense skill, and no small amount of luck - especially once that damned blue shell comes into play!

Well worth finding if you don't already have it, it's been out for 11 years and I still grab it to play (as I did today which led to this mini-review!) Later games widened the tracks and made things a lot easier. Mario Kart DS is, for me, the definitive version of the game.

There's no real touchscreen utilization for these, and all the front buttons are taken up for some reason. Secondly, there's no tricks, which makes the sense of speed rather dull. But these aren't necessarily deal breakers, especially if you're good at fixing the shoulder buttons. It definitely deserves a recommendation, though, but I think the Wii has it beat by a little bit. I recently played this game on the Wii U Virtual Console and this was probably one of the best games Nintendo could have picked to launch the DS VC with.

Though the game isn't as good as recent entries, I'll be reviewing based on how it was at the time (2005). MKDS consists of the traditional characters we all know and love (while still managing to have a better roster than MK7). R.O.B.

MKDS consists of the traditional characters we all know and love (while still managing to have a better roster than MK7). R.O.B. is a bit of a questionable choice. E. Gadd, who was a bit more popular at the time, might have been a better pick but I can look past that.

As always, the main focus is the racing. Though none of the courses are "bad," per se, I did find Yoshi Falls to be a bit of a bore as it's just a simple oval. My favorites though were the unique Waluigi Pinball, Tick-Tock Clock, and Airship Fortress. For some reason, I'm also fond of DK Pass. This is the first Mario Kart to feature retro courses so it's a bit surprising they went for some strange choices such as two Luigi Circuits (GCN and GBA). That doesn't, however, change the fact that the courses are still enjoyable such as Choco Mountain and Mushroom Bridge.

Mission Mode, so far, has only appeared in this installment. I know many really enjoyed this mode and are begging for it to return in future games in the series but after playing it myself, I think I'd rather have either an improved battle mode or an entirely new mode. Not that Mission Mode is bad, I just didn't enjoy it as much as other people. The items are a pretty big highlight of the game. Unlike Mario Kart Wii, they're as balanced as they could possibly be. I do wish the Boo item (turns you invisible and steals an enemy's item) would make a comeback at some point.

Overall, Mario Kart DS was great for its time. While its graphics don't hold up that well today, the game is still a fun experience with some of the most unique courses in the game as well as some more great ideas like Mission Mode, even if they aren't as fun as they could've been. I doubt you'd be picking this up on a DS so if you have a Wii U, get it on the Virtual Console.

Oh gosh, this game is great! This was one of the biggest influences of my childhood! It was one of the video games that really got me into gaming. While the multi-player isn't too impressive, what really makes it stand out is the single-player mode. It's great! There's the Grand Prix Mode, Time Trials, VS Race (A.K.A Free Run), Battle Mode and Mission Mode! I really have enjoyed this game since I was eight and still love it to pieces to this day! Apart from the DS not being the most appropriate for larger hands like mine, the control is perfect. Drifting is easy to do and enjoyable, the item balance is right so you won't see the Blue Shell too often but not everyone will get you a Bullet Bill. This course also introduced online play and retro courses! Retro courses are one of my favorite parts of the Mario Kart franchise and I owe it all to Double Dash. Your kart steers very well, nothing like Double Dash's slightly slippery driving, which isn't very helpful on windy roads where you easily fall down. While Double Dash had two incredibly good battle modes (Shine Thief and Bob-Omb Blast) I can't owe it to all that Mario Kart DS to this day has the greatest Balloon Battle out of any entry in the series! You start with one balloon, then have five more in stock. If you choose to have less balloons, you get out faster but get better items! Plus it has some great Battle Mode stages! All of them, except for Tart Top which is alright but fine since Double Dash had Tilt-A-Kart which wasn't very good either. But I like this game so much that I would play it over Mario Kart: Double Dash!
The music is upbeat and cheerful...most of the time. It did have the horrible Yoshi Falls track, but apart from that track all other tracks were memorable for me. Especially what could be my favorite track of all time: Airship Fortress. The retro track music isn't quite as good as the original games, but still pretty good to me!
Snaking got me competitive as well, so those are great aspect of these games. While the retro tracks didn't have such a proud selection (could've had better GBA and N64 stages), I'm very happy with a lot of these tracks. My second favorite video game of all time! It deserves a ten for all it has done!

Some of my review may be slightly biased, due to this game blinding me with the most nostalgia, since it was one of my childhood games. Mario Kart DS is as close as you can get to the ultimate Mario Kart games. While this game doesn't look as good as Double Dash just did and it doesn't have as much strategy, there is a great simplicity about it that you enjoy.

Sporting fantastic gameplay, many of the best courses of Mario Kart history, some brilliant music and bright and colorful graphics. Only complaints are slightly cramped controls, but that may just be me because I have big hands, but hey. The items are well balanced and so are the Retro stage's consistency, although not all the courses were great, but hey. My favorite in the series, along with Double Dash and 8. I don't know why people say this game is one of the worst when it's not!

The best racer on the DS. Even though it's not my favorite Mario Kart game, this game is great for the DS. I had a lot of fun with this game, it's one of the best games on the DS.

This game was a great game, a must buy for DS owners. Although its AI were insane on 150cc, it had great replay value, many characters to choose from, and a great map selection.

Ultimately, it was a fun game, with high quality graphics for its time. It could be a little frustrating in some levels and tourneys if you didn't know the advanced tricks.

Like every other Mario Kart, this one is amazing as usual.

Id say this might be the best one, maybe the second best after the Wii version. What makes it so good is, The tight controls and gameplay. The online which was introduced to the series along with this game.
The multiplayer is amazing and where the game shines the most.
The fact that its all on a handheld.

Especially the simple customization within the multiplayer that gives you the option to decide how cups are structured is brilliant!

The biggest downside is that they didn't balance the game mechanics well enough which has enabled something known as "snaking".

That aside, its a perfect racer for the handheld.

Easily a 10 out of 10 and recommended for everyone who likes good videogames.

One of the best racing games ever, no matter what console/handheld you compare it to. With an extremely solid campaign littered with brilliant missions, there is nothing wrong with it. The single player VS mode and Battle mode are extremely addicting, already having me donated 200+ hours just into those two modes, but the sheer amount of fun playing the game is just already satisfying. The music is also not bad, where tunes from different games before may invade your nostalgia!

    The story behind it
Mario kart is a racing game that was first launched on the super Nintendo entertainment system in 1962 which was known as Mario kart 64 and is also available via Google play store as well, to date there has been four Mario karts games for home consoles (ds and wii), three for portable games and 2 Namco arcade games. The most recent edition to the Mario kart series is Mario kart 7 which was released onto 3DS sometime last year, there are two more games in the Mario kart series in development which ach are one for the new wii u system and another arcade edition which could hit the shops any time now. The Mario kart games have developed so much over time and the producer has bought in many new things and changed the content every time this has included new items, new characters and many more as well as new tracks different elements, this was to keep the game play fresh and so people who bought all of them weren’t getting the same thing every time so if u has all of them you are never getting the same game on each edition because new content is always added. The one on the ds was probably one of the best racing games ive ever played. Each series contained at least 16 original courses and plus different versions of current tracks E.G. Rainbow road was included in the 16 but then rainbow road 2 was a sequel and not included in the 16 because this was one of the tracks that was released at a later date.

    Suitability
The game is suitable for all ages as there is absolutely no violence involved and everyone can play it as it’s a family game which everyone one can play, it is quite addictive because you never know what is going to happen as there is many different tracks which contain many different obstacles so this game isn’t something you can really practice as there is so much content and so many obstacles involved within it. It doesn’t affect your social impacts because it is actually good because you are getting exercise whether you are playing it on Wii or DS. Why it is a good game
It was a very good game as there is so much game play and technical ability involved within and is never boring because you never know what is going to happen. The game also tests how quick you are at reacting for example when the obstacles such as rocks are rolling down the track you have to react quickly in order to dodge them as if you get hit if you have any items these will be lost and also any coins that were collected along the track a 1/3 of them will be lost (Mario kart 7 only)I love the technical ability of this game and has got better and better every time a new one is released because this game is no ordinary racing game and is never boring because of all the different items and the different effects that the game unleashes in the middle of the laps, my personal favourite track is rainbow road because I love the colours as is a quick reaction track because the track has a very tight specific area you have to stick too and the layout of the track is consistent so this is also hard where as the others there is side bits that you can use instead of the normal section of the track to try and get more items and to try and get a head start on everyone else but rainbow road doesn’t and is just straight track from start to finish and also contains loops to try and distract you to try and make you fall off, the other reason is it’s a good game is because it enables you to race against other people all over the world using the built in wireless connection system which adds alot of excitement and pressure into the game which is another reason why this is probably why this is one of the best racing games around and will probably only get better when the new editions have finished development and are launched, I personally cannot wait.

Everything about MKDS comes together into a surprisingly compelling package, a portable racing game on par with anything ever to appear on a console.
  2. Reason alone to own the DS platform. All of the fun that has been intrinsic to the series is intact, and the much-anticipated online component simply seals the deal. This is best game in the series by far, and perhaps the best kart-style racing game ever to come along.

It's hard to imagine how Nintendo's going to improve on what they've done for this stunning portable rendition. There's so much gameplay and depth in this design, moreso than the series has ever had in the past.
