This installment of Kingdom Hearts was a unique experience. Granted, I've seen better, but this isn't that bad of a game. Unique multiplayer characters, each with their own unique weapons and fighting styles, somewhat make-up for a rather slow story. The dialogue frequently makes you want to skip, but at the same time you will miss the story if you do.

In my opinion KH 358/2 has the best story ever seen in Kingdom Hearts' Saga. Some problem with control but is one of the best game played in my life. The explanation of Roxas' story makes this character probably one of my favourite hero (after Goku).

A fun game that gets hampered by a mess of repetition. That doesn't mean there's a lack of quality, far from it. The story begins with Roxas, introduced in Kingdom Hearts 2 as the Nobody of Sora (please don't make me explain that) as he joins Organization XIII (or that). The battle system, while somewhat simplistic, is still a blast. One of the best new features is the level-up system, which applies to more than just Roxas (spells, weapons, etc), gives you a great deal of control over how you prefer to play (spellcasting, melee, defense, and others). There's also a multiplayer mode, a first for the series, but sadly have yet to try it with friends (one of the DS titles where everyone must have the game to play multiplayer). Called Mission Mode, these extra missions can be unlocked as you progress through the main story mode, allowing you to earn items and XP. These can still be played single player. Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days might have one of the worst titles ever, but its a good game with one major flaw that takes down its quality as a whole. Lapsed fans of the series won't find anything new to bring them back, while the hardcore faithful will definitely be overjoyed by it. Newcomers, I'd suggest giving it a spin if possible before making a decision. (PS: If you were curious, the name is pronounced 'Kingdom Hearts Three Five Eight Days Over Two.' How that's possible is a question I too still ponder.) Expand

Probably kingdom hearts 358/2 days is one of the best games made for the Nintendo DS. The plot is well done and moving, solid gameplay and really fun and great to be technically done for DS. The only flaw is that there is a wide variety of worlds but for the rest is done really well. Fans of the series will appreciate it very much.

The worst example of the last flaw came with one giant flying boss fight where the target continually moved, had lots of health, and really powerful attacks, which was all the more frustrating in that most magic attacks need perfect aiming, and when you attack with your Keyblade you stay in one spot, so the target's moved after the first hit.
Good points: I actually got really into the story and these characters, even if they weren't the deepest or most complex out there. The only reason I persevered through the aforementioned annoying boss-fight was because I wanted to see how the story ended, and I'm glad I did. Also, while repetitive and frequently frustrating, the combat still had just enough satisfaction and fun to it to keep going. I also quite liked the panel system they implemented for switching between different weapons, magic attacks, items, and perks. The extra modes were quite interesting too, in which you can play through previous levels with one of over a dozen different characters, including other Organisation members, Donald, and Goofy. Overall, I found it good, but not great. It was interesting enough for me to see it through to the end, but you'll likely find it incredibly repetitive and more than a bit frustrating.

The plot is fairly lacklustre. the structure of the main game is different to your average kingdom hearts because instead of playing through the adventure in one go you do it in missions instead. Missions suit a handheld game well as they offer short bursts of gameplay on a bus ride or on the way to school. Notice how I didn't say THIS game well. Missions in this game fluctuate in length which can be very annoying since you cannot time your playthroughs to suit your journey length, sure this is not a problem if your playing at home but can be annoying when your not even half way through a mission and you have to stop because your journey ended. Another big issue is the structure you will usually have a completion bar. This means you can beat the mission but there is still stuff to do. This is fine in the first 3 hours but as you go on you stop 100% missions and then start skipping optional missions. The game has more padding then the first season of Dragon ball z which really sucks because I expected some decent gameplay that a Kingdom hearts title, portable or not offers. The incentive for completing all the missions or doing everything is very subjective. If you have friends who have this game it makes sense because beating all missions unlocks Mickey mouse in multiplayer and then 100% the missions unlocks Sora but if you know no one who plays the game why would you bother? The multiplayer is half and half for me. Its kind of lazy on the level design because they just repeat a handful not all a handful of missions meaning your favourite mission might not be there. The other half is that you can play as some of the major Kingdom hearts characters all with their own animations and special moves. Im not going to comment on the ability system because there is nothing to say. This game can be fun if your in the mood and looking for a game to pass the time Kingdom hearts fan or not. If there is one piece of advice I will give you if your going to 100% this game do it on your first time round because even as the biggest KH fan one play through is more then enough and I don't want to replay this. Great gameplay, and a beautiful story that has a very tearful ending (in fact, it was the first time I ever cried from a work of fiction!).

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is the most disappointing and unnecessary Kingdom Hearts title I've ever played. It was the DS's first attempt at a KH title. Boy, does it show. Some of the controls are awkward and gameplay lacks variation. It's a mission-based game and a poorly made one at that. Almost all the missions are exactly the same: Beat up a certain number of Heartless and get out. The only good thing I can say about this game is the somewhat interesting story involving Axel, Roxas, and a newbie named Xion. Roxas is partnered with her at some point in the story and, as the tale goes on, Roxas begins to lose some of his powers due to Xion's unusual power-draining ability, which is something she's unaware of until nearing the end of the game. Also learning that she holds some of Roxas' memories, she tells Roxas that they must clash in order to restore him back to normal. I'm sure you can guess what happens next. Other than that, the game was a repetitive chore just to see that stuff. My opinion? Stay away from this game and just watch the cutscenes on Youtube. Expand

As a kingdom hearts game this game is an absolutely awful experience to play. Not only does this game have the worst level-up, inventory, magic and accessory management, the disney characters are not tied to the story or gameplay at all. Just watch the movie. You'll be fine.

The history Is the best wrote of all games, making characters so memorables and a realistic story of that make you feel so sad

The gameplay is good considering the limitations of the DS and the HUD is well made

    Pros
    +More than 90 missions

-Some of the character models are poorly done and heavily pixelated due to the limitations of the DS
-Some missions are tedious and filler
-Lack of emphasis on Final Fantasy characters and Disney characters/worlds compared to previous games

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I absolutely adore Kingdom Hearts, but to be honest, I didn't expect much from this title. The only portable follow up to a full scale game I'd played before this was FFXII: Revenant Wings which was, in a word, terrible. Therefore, I was very happy when my preconceptions where proved wrong in what turned out to be a very enjoyable little game.
Yes, it can get a bit repetitive at times, and the missions can be tedious if you're not in the mood, but you have to look beyond that. At the end of the day, the game tells the story of Roxas's origins, and as an avid KH fan I found that that in itself enough to maintain interest. The cutscenes, though few and far between, are nicely done.
Despite what I said, a lot of the missions are quite fun to do and I really appreciated how the battle system is almost identical to the other KH titles. The new Heartless that are introduced are also a nice change. The Panel System is the only new addition to how you fight and level up, and it's fun to mess around with when you're upgrading keyblades/abilities.
The basic outline of the story, if you've played Kingdom Hearts II, won't come as much of a surprise to you. However, it's the smaller details that you learn about the characters you thought you knew; as you play as Roxas and spend time in Organisation XIII, and meet the doomed Xion, you'll be glued to your DS - despite knowing the slightly dismal outcome. Whilst obviously it isn't going to contain heaps of character development, that which it does contain (especially I found with Axel), makes it an interesting game.
Overall, a nicely done game, and a very enjoyable addition to the Kingdom Hearts series.

This game is my personal favorite entry of the Kingdom Hearts series, as well as one of my favorite Nintendo DS games. The story is very slow paced most of the time, the missions are repetitive, and the gameplay may seem a bit simplistic due to the limitations on the DS at the time. (Luckily Re:coded fixed this problem.) But when the story gets going, it gets going! This game features one of the absolute best stories the series has given us. Showing the emotional bond of Roxas, Axel, and new character Xion, as well as their growth as both characters and people throughout Roxas' days with Organization XIII leading up to the events of Kingdom Hearts 2. And while the gameplay may be repetitive and simplistic, it does have its perks. I like the panel system a lot and trying out different combinations and keyblades, the high dosages of nostalgia I get when visiting worlds from Beauty and the Beast and Nightmare Before Christmas that also help tie up to KH2, and some of the bosses such as the Antlion and Imperial Machine I did have a good amount of fun with. (Just don't be so excited about bosses like Leechgrave and Ruler of the Sky though.) But the real highlight of this game is the Mission Mode, where you get to play as all members of Organization XIII, plus Sora, Riku, Donald, Goofy, and Mickey (who is my main, btw). Playing through old missions with different characters with their own weapons and styles I massively enjoy, even if the missions are repetitive. I just like testing different characters and see which ones I'm most comfortable with for certain missions. Plus, multiplayer is always fun too. Overall, is this the best KH game ever? No. Is it the best DS game ever? No. But can the game be really fun at times? Yes. If you're looking for one of the best stories in KH history, (even if it's slow-paced) get this game now. But again, if slow-paced stories aren't your thing and you're just in to play as your favorite member of Organization XIII, this game will definitely be worth your time. Expand

One of the best KH games and has the best story of all imo. Best game on the DS.
Unfortunately Days is the last masterpiece of Kingdom Hearts, started to be way too complex and anime after 2010.

    Pros:
    -Amazing music and story
-Great characters and insights into KH
-Amazing build up story wise, deep emotion
-Can play multiplayer with friends, unlock more characters (Only KH game that has that)
-Very challenging and alot of content, spend 150 hours on 1 save, which connects to Multiplayer as well.
-Very rewarding to do everything, endless keyblades/weapons with different names for each character. The best customization in the series to date.

    Cons:
-May be too repeative at times but nothing like BbS and the games after that.
-Story being great, the new games kinda ruined it, so Days story is not as amazing anymore if you're thinking canon. Personally i look at games after Days to be spin-offs, even KH3.
-Camera angle can be hard to manage and invisible walls are quite prevalent
-It is a DS game so gameplay wise it can be repeative and tedious, the leveling design and some missions are dreadful at times.

Its a unique game, different from the rest of KH and still very good, it has a darker tone, it makes you care and feel for the protagonist as the game builds up. it has a very nice gameplay and allows you to play with a lot of charaters after the ending of the game. i personaly enjoied every moment of it and will revisit it soon.

For me personally 358/2 days has one of the best "sidestories" in the franchise. Concentrating on the relationship of a few characters and giving more insight on them and what was happening in the background of the story was really cool.

The gameplay, though being repetitive, is still enjoyable and if you consider the story, it makes sense, why it's repetitive. It's like meant to be repetitive :-P. A

And the graphics and music are really great for a Nintendo DS title.

Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days is a lousy game with just as lousy of a title. This handheld spin-off is an overlong, repetitive slog with an uninteresting story focused on the blandest and most obnoxious group of characters from the Kingdom Hearts series -- Organization XIII.

358/2 Days is most definitely the worst entry in the Kingdom Hearts series thus far, with painfully repetitive gameplay due to an extremely lacking combat system with very little depth, enemies with decent variety but repetitive, dull attack patterns and some abysmally boring missions. There are a handful of interesting ideas like making Magic and Abilities acquisition more of a resource management matter, giving the gameplay a somewhat strategic feel, but even that is implemented in such a way that it often becomes more of a chore than anything else. The story is enveloped in a charmingly melancholic, somber mood that elevates the beautifully poignant emotional struggle of the main characters, but the drama is severely held back by the tragedy not hitting as hard as it could've due to the friendship uniting the main characters feeling somewhat forced and underdeveloped.

While it doesn't really add a great deal to the overall story of the series and recycles a lot of content from the previous games, what you'll find is a very enjoyable experience, chocked full of content that will keep you glued to your DS for a long while.

If you've never liked Kingdom Hearts before, 358/2 Days will not sway your opinion, as it's basically the same action RPG seen on the Playstation 2 with a different (and one may argue, more interesting) customization system. However, if you like Kingdom Hearts or even action RPGs in general, 358/2 Days is a worthy game for you to spend time on.
