As a generic top-down, block-pushing, grid-based platform-puzzler, Helmet Chaos is decent enough. It completely fails to capture the spirit of Frogger, though. Use of every button to obfuscate your traversal of the levels is more annoying than innovative.

if you liked the gba versions, you will love this ds version. i actually had alot of fun with this title! looks childish, but it's not. not worth $30. perfect $19.99 title. excellent job!

To see this in more detail, check out my review of the PSP version of this game. This is a fun little game. It's not the best Frogger, but it's a good one. The DS version even has some exclusive stuff if you have some of the GBA Frogger games (and a DS that can play GBA games). It's fun.

Helmet Chaos does have a surprisingly quirky sense of humor and some decent voice acting, but it's not enough to recapture the series's long-lost magic. [Oct 2005, p.100]
  2. Whereas the console game is bland and broken, the portable game is a lively 3D adventure packed with plenty to see and do.

It's just a very straightforward game design that, even with its rigid quirks, is more fun than it is impressive.
