My 8 year old loves animals and could not wait to get this game. She loved it - I was a little disappointed that in less than a week, she "unlocked" all 25 animals and now seems bored with it. She can start another account - but seems to have lost interest.

Animal Genius was likely released as a discount game, probably at book fairs. Or at least that's what I hope.

The gameplay consists primarily of a multitude of minigames, quiz questions, seek and find, puzzles, etc. The problem is there isn't much content to be had, and the minigames they offer just aren't that fun. I guess if you were a young child who is super in zoology it may be fun

I guess if you were a young child who is super in zoology it may be fun for like an hour, but coming from a kid who was super into it when I was younger, I could see myself getting bored quite quickly.

Technically, the game functions, I didn't spot much in the way of technical glitches or poor performance.

The graphics are pretty much just 2D pictures, it isn't very stylistic or tasteful. Bland is the best way to put it, but it serves its function.

    I simply cannot recommend it.

Animal Genius is a kid game. A really little kid game. It's not going to be fun for anyone in the double digit age range because it's too basic. However, for a young child, especially one that has an interest in animals, it's actually a decent title.

As a tool for learning, Animal Genius doesn't have enough going for it to be considered viable. It lacks any sense of fun or enjoyment to tether the educational aspects in with the mini-games. Scholastic has released a half-hearted Educational Videogame that fails at both of the tasks it sets itself.
