Although this game was meantime as a spin-off game, it has all of the things a quality Resident Evil game needs. A good, suspenseful setting, being Raccoon city, A big baddie that stalks you around every corner and much more. Honestly this game holds up even today! If you haven’t played this game, you need to right now.

The whole free roam of the city was what made this game so much fun. It still had a linear story line, yet you could freely roam the entire city. And many sections make cameos. Returning to the police station, after Leon had left, and seeing what remains was a really good touch.
Having puzzles throughout the whole city. IE: Find a lever, return to a gate you were previously stuck at, move to next area, stuck again. Return to find a new way around.
This really changed it up from a basic linear pathway. And I found all of the puzzles fun and enjoyable.
Then the horror. Oh man. Having Nemesis hunting you down throughout the entire game was so bad ass and terrifying. I played this game when I was ten. And having Nemesis hunt you down had my heart pounding while I tried to fight him. I can't wait to see him in the remake, and with so much better graphics. I'm expecting, instead of jump scare scenes, he will probably be after you throughout the entire game.

RE3 closes out the Raccoon City chapter of the series with S.T.A.R.S officer Jill Valentine's final attempt to escape the giant graveyard, evading zombies, mutants, Umbrella mercs, and a powerful new Bioweapon; Nemesis. Like Mr. X before him, this nemesis will stop at nothing to locate and terminate you, and is far more equipped to do so. As if having the hunting prowess of Predator, the speed of a Jamaican sprinter, the bulk of an NFL linebacker, and the face of Sam Cassell weren't scary enough, they had the audacity to give this guy a rocket launcher!! Atmosphere is so incredible that this game would be scary even without monsters. Of course with them and HIM in place, it is unbelievable how a grown up man can easily give up this game... You need to turn on your sense of surviving, and think twice and fast about every action or you will end up with no ammo, healing items or even worse; end up decapitated by bloodthirsty, flesh eating monsters. I highly recommend playing this in Hard Mode, because it will greatly increase experience that this Survival Horror masterpiece can bring.

Although it felt (and played) like an additional piece of Resident Evil 2, 'Nemesis' was, in its own right, a fantastic experience. It still is, as I often find myself playing it whenever I get the urge to delve into the survival action/horror franchise. That this is my first choice may shock some people, but my reasons are sound, if you ask me.

First, and foremost, the control scheme: the ability to quickly do a 180 turn is pivotal. Everything feels more smooth, from the camera angles to the progression of the story and the increasing difficulty of the enemies around you. Through it all, the Nemesis tracks you like a bloodhound who is incapable of losing your scent; you'll run into him more than once, and these extremely tricky run-ins make for real heart-racing action in a series where the stale "oh there's a zombie...oh there's a zombie dog...oh there's a hunter" series of action sequences is commonplace. Not that it isn't enjoyable, but a boss that continuously hounds you? That's innovative, at least relative to the franchise.

The real selling point to me is the interesting story of Jill Valentine, who we last saw in the original Resident Evil. With her knowledge of Umbrella's shady dealings, she is prepared to do something about it; as soon as she escapes the nightmare that Raccoon City has become, of course. Plenty of drama lurks below the surface, even if it is rather standard fare for the franchise, and even if the voice acting is at best passable and at worst laughable. Suspending disbelief is a necessity for most games, anyway.

While the original is still a fond memory in my heart, and RE2 so much fun to play, I find that the third installment, although acting more of a bridge to next-gen versions of the game, put all the pieces together and turned into a game that featured the best aspects of the previous two installments.

This may have been possible to forgive if the game had been improved in other areas but the series flaws, such as the awkward controls, endless back tracking to find key items, B-movie script etc are all still to be found here. Fans of the first two games, and I include myself in this, will certainly enjoy Resident Evil 3 but it is not as essential a purchase as the games that came before it.

Easily the weakest of the original three. Following the amazing Resident Evil 2 this was a complete let-down. Poor level-design coupled with short amount of content and re-used assets this was a recipe for failure. With its lean towards action rather than horror/survival it is also the first sign of the brain-dead action shooter garbage to come: RE 4, 5 and 6.

Resident Evil 3 is the true underdog of the Resident Evil series. It was a game that originally started off as a spin-off title that on a whim, due to Capcom wanting to fill out their playstation catalogue before the release of the PS2, became the 3rd canonical title in the growing series that was further defining the survival horror genre with every release and Resident Evil 3: Nemesis is no different. It's the shortest game in the original trilogy but what it lacks in duration it more than makes up for in story, gameplay and content. Resident Evil 3 welcomes back RE1 vixen Jill Valentine as she makes her escape through the burning ruins of the once lively Raccoon City. However Umbrella, the evil corporate conglomerate, has no intention on making it easy for you. Also stalking the streets of the now decaying Raccoon City, the Pursuer, codenamed Nemesis, is an ungodly creature of strength and aggression whose only objective is to eliminate all remaining S.T.A.R.S. members. When developing RE3, Capcom sought to create a game that would induce paranoia in the player, making them question their every action, every decision. Resident Evil 3: Nemesis is welcomed reminder of just how terrifying a video game can be and even holds up after it's initial release 20 years ago. The Nemesis A.I. is more aggressive than Birkin or Mr. X before him and is able to attack the player in a plethora of ways. This new programming also gives the Nemesis speed and agility, as well as a proficiency in weapons making him a more deadly adversary. The game is almost the perfect fight or flight simulator, allowing the player the chance to make choices in extreme situations that will effect the overall ending of the game. Jill is no slouch though, she's just as prepared as ever, facing off against everything Umbrella has to throw at her. She's still the master of unlocking, carrying with her a trusty lock pick and she too is proficient in weaponry. Jill wields a variety of weapons including: Shotgun, Magnum, Grenade launcher etc giving her more of edge over Leon and Claire who in RE2 were limited to the weapons they could use. Resident Evil 3 also comes with an unlockable Mercenaries mini-game, similar to Resident Evil 2's extreme battle mode, that was added into RE2 well after it's initial release. The mini game allows you to control one of three Umbrella Mercs: Carlos, Nikolai or Mikhail. Your goal is to make it from the cable car to the warehouse within the time limit while rescuing survivors for added time bonuses. It's in this mode the player will accrue points that can be spent on rewards that affect the games main campaign.

Resident Evil 3 is the red headed black step sheep of the RE series but is easily the best game in the original trilogy. It allows for more exploration of the city instead of leaving the player confined to the dull and mundane settings found in the previous entries. It's a must have for video game collectors and must play for fans of the Survival Horror genre. Even with the RE3 Remake releasing this April, there is no other survival horror experience like the original Resident Evil 3: Nemesis and I implore you to experience it for yourself!

(P.S. I love how Metacritic lists this game as a DC game when RE3 was first released for the PlayStation video game console on September 22, 1999 in Japan and November 11, 1999 in North America AND THEN ported to the Dreamcast and PC.)

While in every resident evil the surprise factor was what keeped the game's replay value alive, the replay factor is extremely low here, since the only real threat throughout the whole game is Nemesis and nothing more, so knowing where he will be annihilates 90% of the fun/scares.

They knew this, so they added different paths and prices if you defeated the antagonist in every encounter you had and not only the scripted ones. But this made the game even less scary, because Nemesis would eventually become another irrelevant miniboss instead of a unstoppable killing machine.

It all boils down to the fact that Lisa Trevor is a much more relentless beast than Nemesis, which is a real disgrace.

"Resident Evil 3" is very good, but not great like its predecessors. The game feels like an expansion to RE 2. It refines the formula, quickens the pace and features new additions including the Nemesis. However, at this point, the formula started to feel familiar. This installment is basically more of the same. I played it on the PS2. I would rate RE 3 with a 9 out of 10.

RE3 had a lot to prove and maintain after the beauty that RE2 was, certainly it's a beast of its own and does things pretty well but there are others that struggle a little.

To me, RE franchise always has been an action-survival horror game with tank controls, with Nemesis they tried to get things to the next level, having a monster stalking you through all the game and be mostly the only boss is a bold move and a welcomed one, it keeps things on the edge for the most part, although in the final stages it can be gimmicky and annoying it never fails to deliver a good dose of adrenaline and tension, this gives you more dynamic and fast fights and that's were they include some dodging mechanics, and my first real problem comes with them, you don't have a dodge button, instead you use buttons that you use to do other things, i.e. when aiming and shooting you dodge with the shooting button, but in order to do that action you need to hit it at the right moment before an enemy attacks, this can be frustrating because sometimes you want to keep shooting not dodging or vice versa and a lot of the time it keeps doing the other thing around, this mechanic helps but because it seems more luck dependant maybe you'll not use it at all, with RE4 they manage to do that pretty well with button prompts on screen, but progress always arrives late I suppose.

Graphically the game looks pretty well, the pre-rendered backgrounds hold up and the 3D models have a lot of charm to it, Jill Valentine and Nemesis specifically looks great, the challenge is also good, I think that this entry may be the hardest of the classic games, it's not impossible but as I told you before it keeps a lot of tension through all the game, the music and atmosphere is also on spot, and I really like that you visit some places from RE2 and gives you a good sense of scale and lore, like: "maybe Claire or Leon went trough here before or after" I liked this feeling a lot. Another thing that didn't hold up that well are the voice acting, they sound like B-movies or worst, and I'm well aware that RE, in general, have this B movie vibe but this doesn't feel intentional, also, the characters aren't that great either, I love Jill but I prefer how she was managed in RE1 remake or Revelations, is not that she is the most well-scripted character but in Nemesis she strikes me a lot like a pretty generic action hero.

RE3 is a prologue of ideas that want to be achieved ahead of its time but fell short and that will culminate with RE4, still, it's a good entry on a franchise that was struggling with its formula and wanted to twist things if only a little, I believe that this is a rare instance where a remake like RE2 2019 would benefit this game and achieve its true potential.
