Jan 24, 2013I enjoyed the characters, I enjoyed the strategy, there's a ludicrous amount of content, and there's even pass-the-handheld multiplayer for those into that sort of thing. Apart from the less-than-sizzling looks, this one's a must-have for any turn-based strat fan with a 3DS.

Pelit (Finland)Oct 20, 2011One of the best games in 3DS release. Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars offers enjoyable turn based action with a diverse squad and tactically enjoyable terrain. I like it a lot! [May 2011]
-
Aug 19, 2011While it might not be the most pleasant-looking game or have a ton of depth, Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars is still enjoyable and at its best when played in small doses.
-
Jul 8, 2011The best game of Ubisoft's launch titles for the 3DS, but I hope that there will be a successor which uses the power of the 3DS much more.
-
Jun 6, 2011An addictive, not-too-shallow bite of strategic game play for fans of fifteen minute sessions. It could have easily been a DSi game sans 3D, but that 3D screen certainly looks a treat during the action.
-
May 16, 2011If you are kind of bothered by the dawdling pace of other turn-based strategy games, then you're better off skipping this title, as it is one of the slowest games of its kind.
-
May 11, 2011It's no Advance Wars, but with a little more time in the oven it could have at least been more than a decent recommendation for a console launch.
-
May 6, 2011If you enjoy turn-based combat style applied to real-time strategy, then Ghost Recon Shadow Wars is an excellent choice.
-
May 6, 2011This is the best surprise of 3DS launch titles, and those looking for a deep, strategic game will have a lot of fun with it.
-
May 3, 2011Julian Gollop is back with yet another masterful turn based strategy game, and if you can see beyond the weak story and the gimmicky 3D effects - that don't to much to enhance the bland graphics - you'll find a spiritual successor to his old games. Laser Squad: Shadow Wars would have been an equally good name.
-
Apr 30, 2011The first shock is that this is definitely not the genre you were expecting. The next one comes from playing it and realizing just how well it's done. This is a strategy RPG that rivals the big names in the genre. Unfortunately, there's no prinnies, chocobos, or vibrant spiky hair to seal the deal.
-
Apr 29, 2011Something magical happens when you turn on the 3D. The look of game makes sense.
-
Apr 27, 2011In terms of gameplay, though, Shadow Wars is by far the best of the launch titles that I've tried, and it's an easy recommendation to 3DS owners with even the slightest interest in strategy-RPGs. If you own - or are planning to own - a 3DS, Shadow Wars is by far the best bang for your buck.
-
Apr 25, 2011To conclude, Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars is a huge diversion from the norm, but it's also quite a good game. In fact, it's one of the best launch titles for the Nintendo 3DS.
-
Apr 22, 2011Shadow Wars is hands-down the best game available for the Nintendo 3DS among the launch titles. The plot is nothing to write about, but the turn-based tactical gameplay is engaging, and a full run of the game will last about 40 hours.
-
Apr 21, 2011Even being tied together by a cliched plot, Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars offers complex and fun gameplay, with a considerably sized campaign mode and extra missions. The simplistic graphics and lack of decent multiplayer options are a shame, but do not nullify the qualities of the game, that touches fans of the tactical genre in all the right places.
-
Apr 17, 2011Ubisoft Sofia have gone in the face of what a launch title usually is with Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars. It's a lengthy game that will absorb many hours, but at the same time it seems to have been carefully optimised for portable play.
-
Apr 16, 2011Much better than a lot of other Ubisoft launch offerings for the 3DS, Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars is a great title if you're looking for a lengthy strategy game with nice mechanics.
-
Apr 15, 2011Although Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars is definitely one of the best games of the launch, it is also a far cry from the "killer app" the platform needs largely due to its almost complete avoidance of any of the unique features the platform offers. With that said, it is also one of the only truly new and original titles for the 3DS among a number of rushed ports and perfunctory franchise entries.
-
Nintendo PowerApr 13, 2011Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars might not be getting as much attention as some other launch titles, but if you have any interest in strategy or military games, you won't want it to sneak by. [April 2011, p.77]
-
Apr 13, 2011Ghost Recon Shadow Wars is one of the few good game of the Nintendo 3DS launch line up. A strong strategic turn based game that will keep you playing for hours.
-
Apr 12, 2011Overall, Ghost Recon Shadow Wars for the 3DS is one of the better Nintendo 3DS games available at launch. This turn-based Ubisoft experience is an enjoyable ride from beginning to end. While the pace of the game can take some getting used to, the results are satisfying and any fan of turn-based or Ghost Recon games will inevitably want to pick this one up if you are one of those 3DS early adopters.
-
Apr 7, 2011It's part UFO: Enemy Unknown and part Commandos. This military game of chess is not as deep as it could have been, but still one of the strongest launch titles on the 3DS.
-
Apr 6, 2011The campaign mode is lengthy and includes several unlockable situation modes, but the lackluster multiplayer offerings are disappointing.
-
Apr 6, 2011Even if it's possibly the least impressive showcase for the Nintendo 3DS technology, Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars is a great turn-based strategy game, and definitely one of the best titles in the whole launch line-up.
-
Apr 6, 2011Sure, the graphics are ho-hum and the 3D does little to enhance gameplay, but if you value substance over style, Shadow Wars stands as one of the stars of the 3DS launch.
-
Apr 6, 2011Hideously addictive, it's the kind of game that'll have you replaying missions in your sleep. If you like Advance Wars or Fire Emblem, this is the 3DS game for you.
-
Apr 2, 2011While we stay delusional in hoping for a Valkyria Chronicles 3D or an Ogre Battle 3D, there is no question that Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars is one of the standout launch titles for the 3DS.
-
Apr 2, 2011Quotation forthcoming.
-
Apr 1, 2011That said, the suite of options completes what is a very nice package for strategy fans. Honestly, I'm a little shocked by the overall quality of the experience; in lesser hands, I'm sure it would have ended up being a mediocre port of the console shooters. Instead, we've been treated to a scrumptious strategy experience from one of the best designers in the business. It's not a turn that I was expecting for the Ghost Recon franchise, but I will definitely take it.
-
Apr 1, 2011Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars is without doubt one of the best release games for the 3DS. An accesible and entertaining turn-based strategy game.
-
Games Master UKMar 31, 2011This will keep you staring at your 3DS until you eyes bleed. In a good way. [May 2011, p.67]
-
Mar 31, 2011The negatives are few and relatively minor: the storyline and characters are forgettable, the multiplayer is a little clumsy and the visuals could be better. However, the developers have done a superlative job of creating a turn-based strategy game that can, conceivably, be appreciated by newcomers to the genre as well as experienced strategists.
-
Mar 31, 2011Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars is a good turn-based strategy, limited by some obvious flaws. However it is definitely recommended for lovers of the genre.
-
Mar 30, 2011Shadow Wars is a turn-based strategy that's easy on newcomers but with enough depth for veterans of the genre to enjoy as well.
-
Mar 29, 2011One of the most entertaining turn-based action-strategy games we've had our hands on. The large amount of content and mechanics to envelop yourself in is fantastic, and never becomes boring. It seems like a perfect fit for multiplayer, so we're disappointed that only a hotseat mode is on offer. But if you don't mind playing on your own, Ghost Recon: Advance Wars offers a long and satisfying single player campaign that will make you cheer with joy.
-
Mar 29, 2011I won't lie. If Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars was simply known as Shadow Wars, I highly doubt someone would pick it up. Still, the offering is quite giving, deep and challenging enough to keep strategy gamers busy for a while.
-
Mar 28, 2011Ghost Recon Shadow Wars will not charm you at first glance because of its poor graphics and not-so-impressive 3D effect... But the first missions will be enough to really drag you into this very nice tactical game for hours. Despite a limited AI, the game offers a simple but solid gameplay, quite varied situations, and a consistent campaign (about 25-30 hours long). A very pleasant surprise in this 3DS launch line-up.
-
Mar 28, 2011Great action and strategy makes this one of the best release games for the 3DS.
-
Mar 28, 2011Overall, the general feel of Shadow Wars is a solid turn-based strategy game -- even if its story backdrop, limited multiplayer, and character archetypes are short on originality.
-
Mar 27, 2011An enthralling title on its own terms, and, given the bombastic direction of its Clancy-game brethren, probably the closest fans will get to true tactics for some time.
-
Mar 27, 2011Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars is as satisfying of a tactical strategy game as Disgaea,Tactics Ogre, or Front Mission. The franchise may seem like an odd fit for the genre, but this is a wonderful implementation that feels in hte spirit of the Ghost Recon franchise while presenting a delightful strategic challenge. It lacks an engaging story and the multi-tiered progression systems of those other games, but those flaws are easy to overlook.
-
Mar 27, 2011Not only one of the 3DS's best launch games but also one of the most accessible and entertaining turn-based strategies of recent years.
-
Mar 27, 2011Rich environments and diverse abilities fuel the accessible tactical depth that makes Shadow Wars a winner.
-
Mar 27, 2011Despite the disappointing multiplayer options, the clichéd characters, and the sometimes repetitious nature of the campaign, the strategy gameplay of Shadow Wars is fun enough to make it a worthy recommendation for any turn-based enthusiast.
-
Mar 25, 2011Ghost Recon is undoubtedly a chunky, enjoyable addition to the 3DS line-up, and a slick if unspectacular strategy blast.
-
Mar 25, 2011If you've bought your 3DS to show off its new-fangled gadgetry, you might do better to pick up one of the other launch titles. But if, heaven forefend, you might actually want to actually play something fun, or something that requires a bit of thought, look no further. For all its lack of 3D showboating, Shadow Wars offers genuine depth.
-
Mar 23, 2011Easy to pick up, with enough new stuff to make you think in new ways. [Apr 2011, p.84]
-
Mar 23, 2011Shadow Wars could be criticised for not making any genuinely innovative steps forward in the strategy genre. But what it does do – integrating just about every conceivable feature of turn-based strategy into a single cohesive whole – is enough to make it one of the best handheld titles of its kind in years, and a surprising jewel in the 3DS launch line-up.
