There's no reason I should explain why this game is so great. What you see is what you get.
I'll talk more what I didn't like about the game and I wish that is had.
    - if you don't own the 3DS XL, It gets kind of overwhelming when there's 4 characters fighting. Sometimes it's hard to track yourself. Which is a big deal. - no option to use the directional pad instead of analog. - smash

The game also looks great, runnjng at a mostly solid 60fps, and making decent use of 3D. But what really makes this game stand out is the fun- the raw joy from this game, the raw joy only Nintendo can deliver. The swollen roster is epic, and whilst I admit I miss Wolf new additions like Mega Man, Shulk, Pac-man, Robin and Villager all deliver a varied yet balenced experience. Customisations also work well, although the decision to restrict altered characters to local and solo play is understandable. Speaking of, the multiplayer modes work well- for the most part. Local is flawless, but online can be a bit shakey when playing with four players. With two or even three players, however, I rarely had any issues.
Despite this, however, there's no doubt you're getting a well-stocked cartridge here. Sakurai's tendancy for stuffing his games with content resurfaces, with a brilliant classic mode, as well as All-Star mode, A new addition called Smash Run takes the spotlight, however- seeing Mega Man deck a Goomba is really something. The only fault is the online- this fantastic mode deserves the best.
To conclude, Smash Bros. 3DS' only flaws are with online. Everything else is spot on, and is perfect for revving up your hype for the Wii U version.

It combines the best elements of both Melee and Brawl, such as the speed being slower than Melee, but faster than Brawl, resulting in the perfect speed for this game. Tripping was removed (thank god) unless you slip on a banana peel, but that's okay, and you can still disable that item.

Speaking of items, all the new items introduced are great, except for one. The gust bellows is the cheapest Smash item ever. It acts like Mario's FLUDD move, except with a much longer charge. This allows you to pretty much destroy everyone on screen with pretty much no skill involved. Good thing there's always item switch.

The controls are surprisingly great, you get used to them very quickly.

There are TONS of both new and old stages, and I'm glad they still kept some stages from Melee. The characters are very balanced as well as being very unique. The new Classic mode is great, All-Star is pretty much the same, Smash Run is a good replacement for Adventure, there are tons of fun "Challenges" (aka achievements) and the Stadium events are fun. However, this game does have it's problems. Firstly, online. The single and local multiplayer runs very smoothly, except for a bit of lag during 4-player smashes. However, the online is when not stretching a 2 minute match into a 5 minute lagfest, a lucky guess on when your moves might connect with an opponent 2 seconds after you pressed the button. For a game like Smash, that's pretty unforgivable. I mean, Mario Kart 7 online was fine, why is this so bad? Second, the lack of single-player modes, or modes in general. Sure, you can Smash with AI opponents, but it isn't the same. There's Classic and All-Star, but even those can be played with another person. However, the modes it DOES have are very deep, and I can live without online play (though I do hope they patch that). You can create custom characters, which is cool, and I don't really know what Smash Conquest is (an online mode) so I can't comment on that. Overall, I highly recommend this game, and I'm gonna be sure to get the Wii U version when that comes out.

Much like the Wii U version, this is a true masterpiece of a fighting game.

Smash Run is so incredibly addictive, too. The smaller selection of music and stages make me prefer the Wii U version slightly, but this is still a 3DS must-have for fighting game and/or Nintendo fans.

I found the controls here quite easy to pick up, something to get used to, but easy to pick up. It's amazing that a game like smash is playable at all on the 3DS, it demands so much to the point where the 3DS (well regular ones anyway, not probably not "New 3DS") has to reset every time you close it. The single player gameplay is nice, fast paced, and smooth. The absence of Adventure mode is disappointing though. Some new characters are interesting to work with, like the Wii Fit Trainer or Duck Hunt Dog, and even Pac-Man. Although multiplayer capabilities could have been better, many matches are lag ridden and it's quite difficult to get into a mostly lag free match, I encountered that in my early days of For Glory, even in 1v1s. These days when running around as Dr. Mario or Bowser I don't encounter as much lag as before. The graphics look nice for something running on the 3DS and surprisingly no framerate drops when entering 3D mode, it's strange considering the newer Pokemon games don't really demand as much and still have issues. Guess it's because some models on those games are more detailed. But on Smash you have 4 different characters of varying sizes moving around quickly on screen at one time it's shocking how framerate doesn't dip into low numbers sometimes. Smash 3DS is nice if you don't have a Wii U, and really good for those who like to play fighting games on the go Expand

Great modes such as Adventure Mode and Target Mode have been removed. There is a new mode called 'Smash Run' but honestly, it is not all that exciting. The inclusion of online is a brilliant idea, however, there are some major issues with lag in 90% of matches. Furthermore, the studio has confirmed that it has no plans to release DLC later on, which is a disappointment considering the absence of some interesting characters.

    Score/Nota: 8.7/10

Particularly I must say that Smash is one of my favorite sagas of all life and the few that can be said to have been improved with each delivery, so I looked forward to this new chapter for both platforms, starting with the portable version which ended exceeding all my expectations, being a very dignified and funny version of his older brother.

The cell-shadding style that was chosen for this version is like a finger ring giving the game a lot of personality with an impressive fluidity, to the point of maintaining 60 fps without any fall, even in a local cooperative of 4 and with items, which is the 2nd most powerful game of all the 3DS (only below Xenoblade Chronicles 3D). In terms of pure gameplay, the game achieves a perfect balance between certain Brawl mechanics and a bit of Melee's speed, but always with its own personality since it includes several mechanics that make this a delight for the competitive area, not for nothing and go 3 years in a row that continues to defeat Melee in attendance in the EVO. Another point in favor is the impressive amount of extra content that includes such modes and mini-games, that although none end up being memorable, the combined as such is appreciated and gives hundreds of hours of re-game, also highlighting the mode multi-player which works very decently and offers the possibility of being enjoyed in a casual and competitive way.

But the highlight is without a doubt the roster of characters, and that this delivery alone already has the most legendary roster in the history of video games (and I say alone, since I do not count the dlcs, that if we add them, Holy God!) with which we have Smash for a while, that's why the idea of a Smash 5 can wait and a lot. 8.7/10

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I will be honest; I've never actually owned a Smash Bros game, let alone even trying to understand the game. Not until I've poured over 20 hours into the game have I decided to express my feelings about the popular Nintendo brawler. In short, it is simply amazing.

Super Smash Bros, for those that aren't familiar with the series, is basically a brawler between many of your beloved characters from well-known Nintendo games, such as the Legend of Zelda, Super Mario Bros, and even Pokemon. There are other game-modes as well, such as Smash Run, where you fight enemies and collect power-ups and upgrades for a final battle with three other opponents, and Classic Mode, where you follow a path and fight different opponents to earn beneficial rewards.

The previous Smash Bros games were all on the N64, Wii, and Wii U. With the new addition to the franchise coming to the 3DS, you can now take the beating fun of punching Yoshi out of Mute City everywhere you go. The game runs and looks very nicely on a portable console; in fact, I think it's probably one of the best looking 3DS games out there. The only downside is the online mode whereas the framerate does drop significantly when playing with other players.

Along with the new Smash Bros games, you are allowed to create your own fighter using your Miis, which is actually much bigger than it seems. You are given three different combat styles for your custom fighter: Swordfighter, Brawler, and Gunner. The Swordfighter uses a sword and has move-sets similar to sword-wielding characters, such as Link or Marth. The Brawler relies on brute force using his or her fists and, again, has move-sets similar to unarmed characters, such as Little Mac and Captain Falcon. Lastly, the Gunner has a gun equipped and has move-sets similar to Varia Suit Samus (I added Varia Suit because there are two different Samus characters). Of course, there are many different skills you can equip your custom fighters with by participating in events that earn you rewards, such as Classic Mode and Smash Run.

In conclusion, Super Smash Bros for 3DS is an excellent competitive brawler for the Nintendo 3DS. Although it seems repetitive at times, there is special content you can unlock as well as challenges to complete. All in all, it's great fun, whether you're at home or on the go.

This is my favorite game for the Nintendo 3DS, ever. I think it's even better than Pokémon αS and ΩR. The game itself runs smooth and feels like a genuine game. 3D features are nice and the game is stuffed with other little minigames. The only problem is the wireless connectivity, which gets very slow at certain times.

Smash Run is what makes this game unique and amazing. Looking at the Smash Tour reminds me too much of Mario Party, I did hope they had a more polished version of the Smash Run on the WiiU version with more big maps. But this is the 3DS version so lets get back on track. It's rather you hate it, or you love it. Favorite character is Zero Suit Samus, Little Mac and Shulk have too much spotlight.

-the only fun thing to do online is for glory mode and it lacks a match up systum so that you play with people near you instead of trying to play someone in china where it lags and also lack a skill ranking systum another frustrating thing is there is not separate records for friends its only online and CPU fights and friends combined thats annoying

-almost everything is already unlocked for you when i bought the game there was only a few stages and maybe a dozen characters to easily unlock i didn't even use a guide and i got everything but the thophys in around 5 hours it would have been epic if you only started with maybe 3 or 5 of the stages and characters and went on a epic unlock a-thon

-no story mode and a bunch okay to boring modes that are only good for completing the challenges also it would have been epic if the characters were hard to unlock and you got characters from the hardest challenge instead of a trohphy

this is just my opinion its still a blast to play with friends and is going to be super fun to master

I definitely wasn't expecting the quality experience I would've got from the Wii U version, but I'll be the first to admit that Smash 3DS did pass my slightly low expectations.

Smash on the go is a genius idea. I mean, who wouldn't want to play as their favorite Nintendo characters brawling each other in familiar locations like Prism Tower, Spirit Train, and Rainbow Road on the 3DS?

Smash on the go is a genius idea. I mean, who wouldn't want to play as their favorite Nintendo characters brawling each other in familiar locations like Prism Tower, Spirit Train, and Rainbow Road on the 3DS? Exactly. Its simple concept is extremely fun and I'm delighted to say that I encountered no errors or lag whatsoever (at least not on the online; more on that later).

The character roster in the game is fantastic but I already talked about that on my Wii U review, so you can go check that out if you need to. The stages here are based mainly on handheld games like Pokemon X and Y, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D, and even PictoChat. Some stages from Brawl and Melee return but it's really the great new stages that are the standouts here, particularly Mute City and Magicant.

The game's main feature to differentiate it from the Wii U version is Smash Run in which your characters run around a giant map, defeating as much enemies as they can to grab stat boosts before competing in one random final battle. You could be trying to climb (which plays to jump stat boosts strengths) or just fighting. It's a very fun mode and it's a great way to test out your favorite players before you take them into the main Smash mode, which is just as awesome as ever.

The collectibles in the game are mostly completely different from that of the Wii U version, making it basically essential to get both games. Trophies and music are based on handheld games (speaking of the music: it's amazing) but it won't really ruin the experience if you don't have a Wii U.

By far, the most disappointing aspect of the game for me, personally, was the online capabilities. The setup for online is great. For Fun and For Glory was genius but I encountered A LOT of lag while playing online. I had so much lag that I am not sure I will be going back to Smash 3DS' online for some time. If you're looking for an online experience, definitely go with the Wii U version.

Overall, Smash 3DS surpassed my expectations with the only particularly disappointing thing being the online. The collectibles, music, pure Smash gameplay, and the new Smash Run mode all made me satisfied and you should always be satisfied with a Smash game.

It is an absolutely perfect pickup and play game, which is an essential type of game to have in your portable gaming library. At the same time though, you could easily spend dozens of hours collecting all of the trophies, unlocking all of the characters and stages, and competing in the sometimes intense online battles.

    Gameplay: 8.5/10
    - The gameplay is close to identical to previous Smash Bros games. Returning characters have essentially the same move sets, used with the same button combos, and as a whole the game is very similar to the games we know and love. The game runs smoothly and looks excellent, especially with the extra screen size on an XL console. The one disappointment here is the online functionality. Aside from 1 on 1 action, the game suffers from frequent and pretty serious lag problems, that being said I have played a lot of 1v1, and in my 30 or so battles I have only ran into lag maybe 5 of those matches. Overall, the game plays just how you would want it to.

    Graphics 8/10
    - For the most part the game looks excellent, character models look good and everything runs smoothly. The stages look fairly good, though without the same detail in recent console ports, but this is to be expected playing on a 3DS. The problem here is that with bigger battles (4 player specifically), the screen can prove too small, even on an XL, and you can easily lose your character, or just simply not know what's going on. Overall, the graphics are very good for a handheld game and capture all of our favourite Nintendo characters.

    Sound 9/10
    - The classic music, voices, taunts, item effects, and battle sound effects are all back and sound great through the DS speakers or headphones.

    Lasting Impressions
    - Smash Bros for 3DS is an excellent game for any Smash Bros fans. It is one of my favourite games to play on the 3DS because of how easy it is to drop in for a quick game or two when I have some free time. It is also an excellent game to put some serious time into if you're a serious Smash Bros fan. The online is somewhat broken, which is very disappointing at first, but the 1v1 one can be a blast, though maybe too intense for more casual players.

    Overall Rating: 8/10

Each character is (for the most part) unique with it's attacks, and although you only have 12 different attacks to choose from, this makes the game a little more simple which can make so much more exciting. Story/Concept: Smash Bros. is a fighting game starring Nintendo characters, but with a twist, you fight on platforms, and to K.O. an opponent, you have to knock them off it.

Graphics/Design: The 3DS version has good visuals, but sometimes the cel shading can make it difficult to figure out what's going on. The online version from what I played is very laggy, but it's fun when it works.

As a fighting game this is an okay game. As a Smash Bros. game this game is another disappointment.

-No directional air-dodging means that air-dodging is spammable, and it becomes way too easy to survive bad situations (especially with some characters having over-powered recoveries), which only further drags out the shallow gameplay. (Also there's not wave-dashing or ledge-stealing).

-The Character balance is terrible, and it is still bad, even after all these updates.
-Also, it's just not as fun to play as Melee since it's not nearly as fast-paced or technical as Melee. In this game you are only rewarded with victory when you play in a boring, non-risky, and a non-flashy (AKA: a non-fun) manner.
-In my opinion, the true geniuses behind the Smash Bros. series were the people at HAL Laboratories and certainly not the overrated Sakurai.

I have liked this game too much, because it's like a combination of all Super Smash Bros. games, yup, the online mode is a lot laggy, but I can support it. the New Super Mario Bros. 2 map is pretty original, because when you collect 100 coins, you transform into golden, that makes you stronger, but it ends at some seconds.
I have liked all New Characters, the MAJORLY of the final smashes are fun, like pacman's or greninja's, and you can create your own character using for base a MII character that you maked. you can custom it visually and change the "B" attacks.

    It's a 9 for me.

The lack of single player really inhibits this game unlike it's predecessor: 8.7 out of 10. There are so many collectibles that this game will always have you coming back for more, there is so much to do with achievements you get rewards for. Controls and screen can sometimes be baffling, but the features will keep you coming back.

This game is very addictive and awesome. Anyone who is a fan of Super Smash Bros. will love this game. I liked Wii U and Brawl slightly, just a little bit better but this game is still absolutely amazing. Although probably not QUITE AS GOOD as the Wii U Version, it's still a lot of fun. Although probably not QUITE AS GOOD as the Wii U Version, it's still a lot of fun. As The first Smash Game on a Handheld, you can Smash anytime, anywhere. I have played this game for well over 100 Hours, in the car, in the store, at home, while waiting in line, while I poop, while at work, just about every place I play when I get the chance to. Almost everything about this game is awesome except Fox and Pit's voice. The graphics are good for the 3DS. The controls are great. The game runs perfect at 60 FPS like Masahiro Sakurai stated in the Smash Bros. Direct I think last year. The character roster selection is the best in the series IMO. The stages are very fun to play on, I enjoy mostly the Mario ones but I like all the stages. My favourites include 3D Land, Mushroomy Kingdom from Brawl, Paper Mario, Rainbow Road from Mario Kart 7, Jungle Japes from DKC and Melee, Tomodachi Life, Find Mii, Golden Plains (especially the Gold Character Gimmick, from New Super Mario Bros. 2), Prism Tower, Distant Planet from Brawl, Battlefield, Final Destination, and all the DLC Stages. I have every single character and stage from the DLCs. The Smash Run Mode is very fun. The Custom Fighter feature is awesome. The Music is great and the remixes of some are awesome. The Classic, All-Star, Stadium, Trophy, Trophy Rush Modes are all great. This game does lack a few modes like Adventure, Events, Chronicles, etc. but I wasn't a HUGE HUGE fan of those so not THAT big of a deal, though I do love the Sub Space Emisarry from Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Adventure from Melee. Multiplayer and Online Modes are fun and the Conquest is a great thing. Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS is my third favourite in the series, not the best one IMO but if you have a Nintendo 3DS and loved the previous ones or got the Wii U Version but not this one, definitely buy it, it is worth it and if you hate SSB3DS, you're BEYOND silly as JB. One more thing, if you have an adapter or a New 3DS (I have a New 3DS XL as well as an old model original but no adapter), you can use your Amiibo. I've actually never tried it but I have on the Wii U so you could get that and the DLCs together if you haven't because the DLCs are awesome. Expand

See how fun was that? Why, I'd love to play this game everywhere I go with my New Nintendo 3DS XL system. As a matter of fact, I didn't expect a game like this to come to handheld, but it's been done and history's been made. The fun part about this is that if you own this game and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, you can use the 3DS as a controller for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U. Only 3DS owners can use Smash Run and StreetSmash, but I notice that the 3DS can't handle 8 players in one Smash match and that's okay because you'll have to buy Super Smash Bros. for Wii U to get that. If you want to use your amiibo for battle, you'll have to own a New Nintendo 3DS for that, otherwise you'll have to buy a NFC adapter which is sold separately. You'll be fighting like crazy if you have internet and a Nintendo Network ID in online mode which you can choose With Anyone, With Friends, Spectate, etc. Characters can be a pack of fun and stages will be fun to play in, unless you choose its Final Destination form. I forgot to mention other modes, but I feel like that'll take too long to write. In short, Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS is fun all day, all night, all week, all month, and all year. No 3DS owner should miss this one. Expand

The game is way too addictive. The offline multiplayer is great, but online multiplayer is often laggy and unresponsive at times. I would recommend the Wii U version over this one, but both are amazing. Plus, it's Smash Bros. on the go!

I have mastered multiple different characters, such as Yoshi, Mario, Captain Falcon, Toon Link, Ryu, Peach, and Donkey Kong. The stages are very good, and if you press X on any stage, it becomes completely flat. Be warned, however: this game has some problems on the standard-sized 3DS. First of all, the game takes forever to load, and you can't even suspend the game. Once you exit the game, the system reboots. Additionally, it is very hard to see what's going on when there are 3 or 4 people. On the New 3DS XL, all of these issues are gone. One issue I experienced across all versions of the 3DS was with the online mode. Many times it simply didn't let me play for no reason. Most of the time, playing online is a lag-fest, and does a poor job keeping up with the pace of the game. Overall, this game is almost as good as the Wii U version. It is definitely worth a buy, especially if you have a New 3DS. Expand

Yes, it can be hard to control your character. Yes, it doesn't have as many features as the Wii U version. Yes, even in local play, there can be lag. But you know what? It's Smash Bros on the go. That alone should be enough of a recommendation, but I can also say it has slightly better single-player modes and looks great in 3D.

Smash on the 3ds is truly a spectacular achievement, it runs superbly and the controls are perfect (at least for a 3ds game). it offers a full on Smash experience in your pocket and that alone is worth the price of the game, I have bought it twice so its on both of my 3ds's as its such a great game to play against friends.

The only issues that could be talked about are inherent with the 3ds as a system, it is not a gamecube controller. Perfect pivots are harder to pull off consistently but maybe that is more down to my lack of skill. the screen size can be an issue when playing with more than just 1v1 but it never spoils the fun.

If you do not like Smash 4 and prefer Melee I do not believe that should drag the overall score of this game down, what it does(if that is better or worse than melee is another topic) it does almost perfectly to create one of the most satisfying, deep and addictive handheld fighting game that I have ever played.

Smash 3ds redefined what is possible with a fighting game on a handheld console and is truly one of the best games on any handheld ever.

Additionally, the more stylized graphical presentation in this version of the game weaves a perfect balance between quality and performance, making the game appear quite pretty without causing excessive load times or slowdown.

For those craving a portable, more single-player-friendly experience not competently offered by either Wii U or Ultimate, Smash for 3DS might uniquely scratch that itch. While obviously inferior in some ways to its more performance-focused successors, this game is excellent, and defied what I expected from a portable version of Super Smash Bros.
