Horrid graphics that are on par with early generation N64 games, and a poor frame rate make this unplayable. Might be best to stick to the consoles. Expand

Sadly this title, which could have been great, is ripe with severe technical issues ranging from frame stutter, to stereoscopic ripping and even to outright system halts (as in, total crash requiring a system reset). Normally you'll find yourself after a few tries finally having a good run and about to advance to the next goal... only to have your 3DS crash during the last lap. Multiplayer, solo player... doesn't matter. The thing is eventually going to crash. You can actually tell when it's about to happen it appears this game leaks memory to the point where it slows down and when these slow downs become frequent you know it's about to blow up on you. Sonic and All Stars Racing Transformed is a Kart Racer with 20 different tracks, over 20 characters to unlock from various sega properties, exclusive characters depending which system youre playing on, and even some weird ones like Danica Patrick..
This game features a career mode which is where all of these characters and tracks will unlock.. but there is an online option as well as your standard tournament, time attack, and single race modes…
And youre also able to play split screen in all of these modes, including the career…
The career mode is the star of the show.. its challenging and addicting..
There are a variety of challenges and paths for you to go down, all earning you 1-3 stars for completing..
There are straight up races, theres drift challenges.. ring challenges, theres a mode where youre trying to take down a tank…. Theres my favorite elimination..
I havnt had this much fun in a kart racer in a while..
Before each race you chose your character you think will be best for the challenge youre about to take on and you go at it…
drifting and tracks for speed boosts, speed pads all over the place, constant offensive and defensive pick ups…
every race is so thrilling and you actually feel like skill matters here…
With this resurgence of arcade racers from indie teams lately.. its nice to go back and feel that balance where pickups shortcuts and timing actually matters… especially with the different stats and versions of characters… it doesn’t feel luck based that everyone is on an even playing field .. it feels like every player on the track is in their own world.. in their own race where their objective and your objective and strategy aren’t the same…
this is really highlighted in modes like elimination where not only are you racing for 1st place, but you only have 3 lives… you have to choose if youre going to risk taking a shortcut where its easy to fly off of the track, or are you going to hang in the back to deal damage, or maintain the lead trying to dodge it with a giant target on your back..
this was the most interesting mode to me and I wish the campaign had more of it..
and you heard me right earlier.. every character has different versions of themselves..
as you use a character you gain xp to level them up.. this will unlock new modded versions of them wit different stats…
so if you don’t like the base stats of your favorite character you can grind to level them up and choose a different version of them that is more your play style..
the difficulty you take on these challenges though actually do matter.. you cant just easy mode your way through the career mode..
you have to go for higher stars in modes you feel more confident in so that you can unlock alternate paths with more tracks as well as unlock characters and a bonus moderation…
this adds to the addictiveness of going back and mastering tracks or modes, increasing your star count..
And these tracks are all fun to race through.. especially with the whople transformed thing going on..
you don’t get to choose when to transform but as you race there will be sections where youll be plying through the air, or racing through the sea just to land back on land again.. and all 3 of these flow perfectly, none of them annoying.. I hate flying in games.. I hate controlling planes.. but it feels responsive and smooth here, you hardly notice that anything has changes…
My favorite thing this game does that I wish it did more of is actually tranfroming the map as your race it..
there are some really cool maps that the final lap is completely different than the first 2 as things start to fall and crumble..
I wish the played with this idea more, making every lap in every tracks different..
Sonic * All Stars racing again is probably the best Kart racer not on a Nintendo console and is a must play for fans of this genre
I give Sonic and All Stars Racing Transformed an 8/10

However if you're torn between them, it's probably worth noting that the Vita edges performance (frame rate etc) and graphics (effects, lighting etc), while playing Sonic on the Nintendo handheld obviously boasts some lovely stereoscopic 3D (which in turn aids distances and cornering). In terms of content, audio and controls, they're pretty much on par. It's far from a one-sided contest, but the Vita edition definitely gets the nod for me. I'd rate Sonic All-Stars Racing Transformed at 8 out of 10 for Vita, while it's a 7 out of 10 for 3DS. While not perfect, both editions offer up bucket loads of fun arcade racing. Recommended. Expand

If there weren't as many issues with the actual gameplay, then this game would be amazing, but because of these bugs, I can't give it any higher than a 7/10. The console versions are better, I'd recommend getting those versions over this, but if for whatever reason you can't get those versions, then I'd still say this game is at least decent. Expand

I've only played the demo, and y didn't like what I saw. It appears that the game is running in a windows 98 with k62500 processor. The game lags so much and the graphics are acceptable. I'm wondering how a handheld that ports games like mario kart 7 can sell other similar game with so many bugs. In a word Frustrating.

I feel like all reviews don't ever say or just havn't played the entire game and are already coming out with ludicrous reviews. I do not own any of the console versions of this game but i can easily tell on the 3DS that the graphics, sound, 3D and other visuals look pretty awesome. There are a few lvls that are buggy and do have those framerate issues. But they don't really effect the game in such a HIGH value point that people were saying it was. After beating the entire world cup series, the game does have incredibly spacious and real time racing, unlike Mario Kart, where you just see the road in front of you and barely anything from the entire track. This game is vast when your racing and sometimes it feels so insanely fast that you lose focus on where your at. Above all, the game has a great replay value, which is a MUST in most games, and the character unlocks are awesome. Bad framerate for most detail packed levels with an awesome online gameplay. I give this game a 6 out of 10. Expand

la gente tira arena sin haber jugado, no tiene sentido. El juego esta bien, no es Mario Kart 7 y ni si propone serlo, no es un system seller. Algunas pistas tienen un diseńo medio confuso pero se acostumbra después de jugarlas unas veces...

Let me just say this straight away. This is a terrible port.

The FPS is inconsistent as hell, dropping into single digits constantly. Controls can be unresponsive at times where you're car will just sit there while you hold down the accelerate button or not perform tricks when going off jumps. If the game ran smoothly & controls didn't flunk out, it might actually be a decent game.

    Avoid like the plague.

A workable frame rate might have salvaged this uninteresting, watered-down 3DS version of Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed. Instead, the game's single redeeming quality is marred by technical and gameplay problems, leaving it a shallow, unworkable execution of a good idea.

The roster of Sega stars and tracks is commendable. When the game hits its strides it can even be as entertaining as genre king Mario. But more often than not the game’s suite of issues holds it back from greatness.

A bit of a mess from a tech viewpoint, Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed's highly evolved racing action pushes through sheer force of fun.
