God I love Atlus, they do a remake so well, this is beautiful, it holds the mystique and ambiance of the first version, and blows you away with that new Atlus charm. A must get for the 3ds library

So, as a preface: the original DS version is easily a 10/10 for me, and has been one of my absolute favorites since I first played it back in high school. This rating is entirely based on the changes made in the remake, most of which are... baffling?

So, as a preface: the original DS version is easily a 10/10 for me, and has been one of my absolute favorites since I first played it back in high school. This rating is entirely based on the changes made in the remake, most of which are... baffling?

Let's start with the new art style. I'm absolutely biased here, but it's just so... generic, when the original art was interesting and better fitting for the game. This is especially obvious with Eruca's design; not that I'm bitter or anything.

On to what actually makes this version worth getting: the voice acting. It's great. REALLY great. But even that has its downside: they edited a LOT of the dialogue, in ways that just seem unnecessary. While somehow NOT fixing the typos from the original. (Looking at you, "alseep.")

And then, there's the rebalancing. In the original, making money was relatively easy; I never had to grind overmuch in order to buy what I wanted. In this version... well, it's obvious that they're trying to get people to pay for the DLC.

As for the new story content... well, they tried. But all it really does is undermine the original plot, without even the benefit of being interesting or at all plausible.

In conclusion: the game is ABSOLUTELY worth playing. Go on, get it! But if you don't care about voice acting, I'd say just go for the original.

This is one of those games that you must have in the system if you are a JRPG fan.
The storytelling of the game is brilliant, with plot twists, well-constructed characters and a never-easy-to-do-well time travels that allow you to have a great time. The battle system is simple but deep enough to make good strategies and the voice acting is incredibly good.

It's in my top 10 JRPG's of all time

Never played the original, this is a fairly Solid JRPG from all I have played so far.
The story is tight and captivating, the game does not rely too much on classic cliche, and the battle system is simple but with enough depth to play around.
The time travel system is easy to grasp and become second nature pretty quickly even if I have to say you can get a bit lost trying to found out

The time travel system is easy to grasp and become second nature pretty quickly even if I have to say you can get a bit lost trying to found out exactly the quest you want, or looking back for certain thing.
The difficulty is on the lower side for Atlus title so don't hesitate to play on hard or maybe deadly.

    +Music is good
+Story is captivating, despite being political fiction non-stop.
    +Character are likable
+battle system is easy to grasp

    -Rather short for JRPG
-poor environment, low effort graphic for a remaster.
-Repetitive area, you won't explore a lot of new places

I would not say this is an underrated gem, but it's a good JRPG.

There is only one drawback on this game - no 3D.. So if you love playing games in 3D this game is unable to do that.

Atlus has done it again! With the SMT, Persona, Demon Souls, Dragon Crown and now this! Atlus is the new Square Enix! Enjoy the story and adventure because this is definitely 9.5 -10!! .

One of the best classic JRPG's I've ever played. A must get for the 3DS library.

Sub-par and unnecessary remake of the DS game. Atlus just wants to make quick money off of small-brained fans of their branding and total newcomers to their games instead of making new games.

Atlas are very hit and miss for me. From the amazing Catherine, to the amazingly overated let down that is Persona 5.

I got the demo simply because I recognised the title. I saw Atlas and thought oh no, another J borefest. I really loved everything I saw and found the battle system very enjoyable. It looks and sounds fantastic. I think the DS version looks a bit better though. The DS

I wish people would stop rating games beard on their opinion of the company though. Not liking a companies practices does not make the game bad.

The time travel plot device isn't fleshed out quite as much as you'd like, and the game gets a bit flabby in the middle, but some great characters, writing and a great combat system make this an easy recommendation.

An easy pick-up and one of my favorite games of all time. It does everything correct, and goes beyond it as well.
Story 10/10 - It took a while for the game to catch on for me, so I guess there's a slow-start. But when you're invested, you'll be playing this game for 10 hours up until 8 am. It is extremely captivating, and while this is the first time i've played a multiple time line

Story 10/10 - It took a while for the game to catch on for me, so I guess there's a slow-start. But when you're invested, you'll be playing this game for 10 hours up until 8 am. It is extremely captivating, and while this is the first time i've played a multiple time line game, i feel it was done perfectly. While ppl recommended playing the game without Nemesia (a mode i forgot the name of), im glad I didn't. The base game is perfect, and nemesia just added a tone completely different from the game - a safe haven on a ship floating in a different dimension. It completely takes away the tension that the game has you under, feeling like your being chased and constantly on the move. So don't start off with that mode.

8/10 Design - I suppose one of the weaker points is the graphics. Tbh while I think it has its own charm, it can easily be counted as rough and pixelie. I enjoy the portrait art and the fact the graphics are consistant throughout the whole game. I think the textbooks are a little bizzare but it doesnt make the game unplayable.

11/10 Music - bruh, I can literally hear the music. I study to the music. Skalla, Dunamis, Alistel - this game has so much fantastic music - saying otherwise is just bait. The songs have so much life and theme that perfectly matches the area of the game. I suppose the only music that is lacking is the combat - i believe it is the same DUN DUN soundtrack every battle. Besides that, this is like aaaaaa, slightly below Nier.

Weakest parts of the game: running around dodging everyone, going invis, moving from place to place, moving barrels and exploding them; going online to find which time line to go to 2 progress the story // get a route. The combat is extremely repetitve for "bench mob" enemies. In terms of the overall combat its fucing amazing. But im not trying to sit around planning my turns, stat boosting, combo seeking against random enemies - its a well though out turn based combat but for bosses.

Pros: The combat is great and has some depth. The new content is fun. The characters are great.

Cons: Forcing us to keep the main character in the party at all times limits potential strategies. Trying to 100% the game is a real pain. I got all the hidden chests but gave up the search for last remaining sidequest needed to advance the story (after running around for days).

Battle system aside, Radiant Historia is such an amazing masterpiece of a game, one that is made even more masterful by a remake that almost invalidates the original, that it becomes easy to overlook a busted battle system that, in all honesty, should have been replaced in a remake so well done as this one. If your Nintendo 3DS is collecting dust, it is time to bust out the Swiffer, clean the old girl off and buckle up for one of the greatest adventures ever to appear on a portable system.

The additional content may not be substantial enough to entice seasoned players, but it adds to the complete lore, so hardcore fans may find it still worthwhile. Not to mention that the game adds at least 10 hours to an existing 40-60 hour playtime. Newcomers and veterans who want to relive the excellent story, time-travel mechanics, and combat system will find Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology to be worth their… time.
