This is more than a remake, this is a completely new videogame, a big renovation both in visual and gameplay terms

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. When I played this game, I was not really into the Pokémon franchise as I had been years ago. I nonetheless wanted to give it a try, and I was not disappointed. Even nearly a decade later, the graphics are still quite good. The music is great as always, and if you enjoyed the originals then you'll love this remaster with new mechanics.

My favorite part of this game is the fact that it is a political statement about the balance of nature and industrialization aimed at a child audience. This is why even as an adult I appreciate this game, since it has a mature message behind it. This theme of the balance of nature and humanity is developed thoroughly, as can be seen in the ideals of Team Magma, and the lesson they learn at the end about how expanding the land for the sake of furthering human civilization can be catastrophic, Fortree city, where people live in tree houses, in the berry planting mechanic, where it shows you how if you take care of nature (in this case by planting berries), it will take care of you in turn (by giving you more berries than you originally planted,) and in the dialogue of the NPCs. I wish this game delved more into the cons of not removing nature or furthering urbanization. It briefly addresses this idea in Sea Mauville, with a letter saying something like how the restrictions on the company led to reduced profits, and eventually putting the workers out of a job. That may be incorrect, but it was something like that. Speaking of which, I thought the inclusion of exploited workers and having said workers talk about their jobs was quite cool too.

Unfortunately, this game stays a little too close to the original in some ways (not having character customization and not having the battle frontier), and adds on to the original in others (namely with some of the features in the bottom screen, as well as having the physical-special split, the new fairy type, Mega-Evolution, etc.) In addition, the characters are mostly flat, with maybe a few exceptions. Nonetheless, this game is a must play for fans of the franchise, and for anyone interested in getting into it.

One of the first video games I ever played, it definitely has something to do with nostalgia but this game is great, played it multiple times there are so many Pokémon to catch and so much you can do on the side of the main story, not that it takes away from the already good story the game has.

This is my favourite pokemon game. I haven't played all of them but this one the game I played the most, and playing subsequent pokemon games lessens the experience.

Pokemon XY + ORAS allowed you to complete the entire Gen 6 National Pokedex, all the way up to 721 (after mythical events). The competitive scenes were absolutely revolutionary for their time. Gen 6 featured a bigger Smogon than ever and the two most recognizable VGC tours to this date. The Vs. Recorder was a sandbox that allowed you to create matches against AIs in any way you wanted.Pokemon XY + ORAS allowed you to complete the entire Gen 6 National Pokedex, all the way up to 721 (after mythical events). The competitive scenes were absolutely revolutionary for their time. Gen 6 featured a bigger Smogon than ever and the two most recognizable VGC tours to this date. The Vs. Recorder was a sandbox that allowed you to create matches against AIs in any way you wanted. This worked especially if you had 2 consoles with 2 compatible games. Gen 6 had the best online system to this date with the PSS having extremely convenient interface. Gen 6 introduced 3D models and advanced interaction with your Pokemon, allowing you to connect with them more. The 3DS games had some of the deepest lore in the series to talk about with other people. Super Secret Bases in ORAS ensured the Hoenn region was kept alive with something new and refreshing potentially coming every day. The introduction of megas were amazing and they gave the series so much life. This mechanic aimed to focus more on connecting the player to the Pokemon they have, unlike Dynamax and Terastallization. Gen 6 also expanded on shinies to make them more feasible to obtain, which gave rise to a dedicated shiny hunting community. Gen 6 was a time where the entire Pokemon community was at its most united since Gen 1, all because it mastered the fundamentals of what made Pokemon stand out while also leaving a lot to play with and discuss. You could really catch them all and aim to be the very best, like no one ever was.

I'm putting this up just for Omega Ruby in case I want to use Alpha Sapphire to elaborate on my thoughts on ORAS specifically. atm I just wanted to give this game a score.

Absolutely incredible Remaster of the Gameboy Advance game Ruby. And though quite a bit has been added and the graphics have changed (improved), it still captures that same magic that Ruby showed all of us. I just hope Nintendo remasters all these 3ds games someday in a future consoles so more people can experience it.

Well, I liked the fact that they introduced more of the Mega Evolutions. I loved the character redesigns and the expanding of plot that Rayquaza got. Just... if Delta Emerald ever came out.. that would be soo cool

This is not my pick for the best pokemon game(it's platinum!) Not even in the top 3(B2W2 & USUM) But you good make a pretty good argument on why it's the best. 9/10

Good remake but is missing several feautures such as Gym Leader rematches and the Battle Frontier. I like the new mechanic where you can ride Latias/Latios however.
They should have also implemented HM alternatives this generation. Surf, Dive, etc were fun in the originals but this game has too many teambuilding options to feel restricted in what you can use just because of field moves.

They took Ruby and Sapphire and ported it to 3D excellently, though I think character customization should have been added. I wanted to customize May instead of having her adorable bandana style replaced with a cute but silly bow.

If you haven’t played Pokémons since the first Game Boy, give Omega Ruby a try, because there’s just no way you’re going to be disappointed with it. It’s the same game you remember, just better. [01/2015, p.75]

A much better experience than what was expected. The change in the rhythm and the emphasis in the story elements manage to captivate the player in a way that the Game Boy Advance versions couldn’t.
