This was an amazing remake!! People are constantly complaining about the amount of water, but let's not forget: Hoenn has always meant surfing and diving! (I love diving!)

This one has more content and better post-game compared to X and Y. It gives a good remake of the Ruby Sapphire, but few things improved from R-S or Emerald especially. The post-game was quite good for me, but the lack of the Battle Frontier from Emerald was quite disappointing for me.

I had enjoyed it really good. Spent over 100 hours trying to get all the pokemon. It has nice addition of delta episode, so you can catch few more legendary pokemon. It does give you ability to get few older (and newer) starters as well. Overall enjoyable experience.

I've played nearly every single Pokemon game out there, but I have to say that this is my favorite Pokemon game ever. This game retains the charm that the originals had, while improving on them in nearly every aspect. This game may be far from a masterpiece, but it's the most fun I've ever had with a game in over a year.

    - Pokemon Contests have once again got you raging over the NPCs, haha!
    - Secret Bases, no explanation needed.
    - Trick House, with the good ole HM dependency
    - The Characters, now with better designs and livelier personalities!
    - Unlike the letdown of HGSS music, ORAS's soundtrack does not disappoint. It still contains the hype feeling from RSE, back when you were a child and all.

This game is worth it! It is everything you could desire from a Pokemon game. Until there's a new main game, ORAS will satisfy you for a while.

Also, it has Mega Swampert. The most important Pokemon of the game. Done.

Disclaimer: Pokémon Emerald is my most treasured game, so I write this review with the humble acknowledgement that nostalgia may bias my impression of Pokémon Alpha Sapphire.

Pokémon Alpha Sapphire (and Pokémon Omega Rub for that matter) are amazing games, yet surface-level remakes. They faithfully recreate the Hoen region in 3D, offering an enjoyable trip down memory lane. However, Game Freak did very little in terms of expansion beyond that fresh coat of paint.

    The Good

The geography: The Hoen region is perhaps Pokémon's greatest region of all. It features a variety of areas, including an active volcano with a nearby soot-covered walkway, a bright dark cave with an ethereally lunar atmosphere, a cozy treehouse town living codependently with Pokémon, etc. These settings are believable given their internal logic. For example, an NPC comments how the area around the volcano is cool due to the ash above blocking sunlight. The player cannot travel into the desert until he/she gets protective eyewear to block the sandstorm. Rustboro, the town built upon mining rocks within the nearby Rusturf Tunnel, features stone-based architecture, the Rock-type gym, and the fossil decorations within the Devon corporation. These examples illustrate how each area strives for believable realism.

Mega evolution: Expanding upon the mega evolution mechanic that Pokémon X and Y introduced was a smart move. It further expanded competitive play, made more Hoen Pokémon viable team members, and added well appreciated variety and difficulty to the Elite Four battles.

Theming: Pokémon Alpha Sapphire has a simple, yet consistently delivered theme of people, Pokémon, and nature symbiotically coexisting. It connects this theme to geography, like with Pacifilog Town being built on the sea upon colonies of Corsola. Additionally, half of the game's routes are land-based, and half are sea-based to embody the rightful balance between land and see. The game's plot also emphasizes this theming, with Team Aqua attempting to disbalance the relationship between people, Pokémon, and nature by flooding the world to reset nature to its beginnings. And with no large-scale transportation system (like the subway system in the Urban setting of Pokémon Black and White), people often travel over nature with the help of Pokémon, like Mr. Briney sailing the sea with his Peeko or the player flying on Latias. The consistency of this theming creates adds believability and depth to the Hoen world.

    The Bad

Lack of content: Unfortunately, Game Freak did not include the Battle Frontier in this remake. This omission is the game's greatest sin, as the Battle Frontier may be the single best addition to a Pokémon game. While Pokemon Alpha Sapphire features a copy-pasted version of the Battle Chateau from Pokémon X and Y, it left me wanting a real Battle Frontier with seven unique facilities to overcome, each with unique gameplay mechanics.

Bad new content: After defeating the Pokémon League, the player gains access to additional story content: The Delta Episode. This Delta Episode is nothing more than a mindless and lazily designed fetch quest built upon a contrived and illogical story while being delivered by an annoying character (Zinnia). It tasks the player with scouring the Hoen region for various plot McGuffins with no inherent value. It, at one point, "educates" the player how destroying one's own world is better than the small chance of potentially destroying another world. And it offers no continued interaction or deep character development of its main new character, Zinnia. Ultimately, the Delta Episode is a desperate attempt to pad gameplay time through added content before addressing if said content is inherently meaningful or fun.

    The Consensus

While not a strong remake, Pokémon Alpha Sapphire is still a remarkable game given its amazing foundation. It did my heart well to revisit my favorite region with my favorite Pokémon. While it is lacking in meaningful new content, the game nonetheless delivers a strong entry in the Pokémon franchise.

Some things that have disappointed me are that the berry blender game is no longer available and are made for you, which is really disappointing because it was a mini game that I really enjoyed. Also, the contests arn't nearly as good as the first game and were more confusing, at least I think so. And lastly, I feel that they really made the game much to easy compared to the first game.

As for things I loved about the game, it still has the original feel as the first game that brought back many good memories of when I played 12-13 years ago. The music is virtually the same (with less blaring trumpets might I add), there are several new features added in that I enjoy, such as the primals, the new characters, such as Lisia and Ali, the new designs of Archie and Maxie, and the BuzzNav.

Overall, I think that Alpha Saphire and Omega Ruby were worth the wait. Getting to experience my "home region" in 3D is breathtaking and ACTUALLY getting to sit on the beach chairs on Route 109. Also, not too much water, and not too many HM's!!!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Just finished this game, and I have to say this is hands down one of the best Pokémon games I've ever played, let alone of the greatest Nintendo games of recent years! This game pays so much homage to the beloved Ruby/Sapphire titles for the Gameboy Advance whilst keeping the game relevant for newer players with a sizeable amount of new mega evolutions, all of which are amazing fun to use. The introduction of Primal Evolution is an interesting mechanic and is executed well within the story, I just wish it had been expanded upon a bit more. Music wise, I have to say this game sticks faithful to the original games' roots while extending the themes with orchestral remixes that perfectly fit the tone. Overworld wise, not a huge deal has changed, except the world looks so much more alive in 3D, with the newly bustling Mauville being a particular highlight of the adventure, and the new Gym Puzzles being incredibly satisfying. While the game may seem easy to fans of the original game due to the Exp. Share buff to spread to all party members, this may be switched off and on at will, allowing fans of the original games to experience the same difficulty. For those who are worried about there being "too much water", I can reassure you that surfing speed is vastly increased in OR/AS and water routes feel smaller, so you don't feel as swamped by water as you did in Ruby and Sapphire. New mechanic wise, sneaking up on a Pokémon is a small, but welcome addition that allows access to rare Pokémon with increased stats and rare moves, and allows you to discover new Pokémon in previously explored areas. Lastly, the "Delta Episode" in the aftergame links perfectly with Pokémon X and Y, tying up loose ends, and ending a few hours worth of extra gameplay for old and new fans alike to enjoy, culminating in two incredible legendary captures at the end, and the announcement that all the other non-event legends are now catchable, vastly increasing replayability. Add to that the return of the PSS, Pokémon Amie, and Super Training, and you have a well-rounded package that is the perfect difficulty for newcomers, whilst holding enough depth to keep dedicated Pokémon fans hooked for months. Simply put this game is near flawless. (My only problem with this game I could find was it seemed to easy, but with Ruby and Sapphire being my favourite games, I cannot make a value judgement as to whether this is due to experience with the original titles or not).

There's alot of pokemon goodness here but there's also the fact that many people considered these two games the worst in the series. In OS in particular, almost half of the trainers in the game use water pokemon. The diversity of creatures you go up against here is pretty low and, while Omega Ruby does a bit better with this since they focus on a fire/ground evil faction, it becomes very boring after awhile seeing all the people you face have the same two to three pokemon.
But the remake itself is still pretty good. This game has the most legendaries to capture out of any pokemon game than ever before and the new Delta episode you go on after you beat the Elite Four for the first time is fairly neat too. This is still a tried and true pokemon game and the formula still works. However, X and Y were clearly better games as they were developed with the 3DS in mind. These games, while still good, will never be as good as those two were and maybe not even as good as the Silver and Gold remakes on the DS. I personally would recommend someone looking at these games to get Omega Ruby as that game at least deviates from the "water all the time!" mentality the game seems to have. I would still recommend this to any pokemon fan. And to the haters out there, at this point in time, pokemon is not going to change and this certainly won't do anything for you.

I've just got this along with both Pokémon Omega Ruby, and the new Super Smash Brawls game today, and so far I'm impress with it!:D

Although I've just got started and still have a long ways to go, I'm still very pleased of how both Gamefreak and Nintendo, made this remake of my classic Pokémon Sapphire game!:D

I absolutely love this game. My first Pokemon game was Emerald so the nostalgia I felt when I dove through the seas, battled the Elite Four and defeated Team Aqua was astounding. This is by far my GOTY, best game of this year. I recommend this game to everyone who likes Pokemon, it's simply THE BEST POKEMON GAME EVER MADE! 100/100! Gotta catch 'em all!

This game is a the best remake I have ever played, even better then The Legend of Zelda Wind Waker HD. Heck, it's my favorite game period! Here are my reasons for liking the game.

Art style: They payed very close attention to detail while making this game. Now many people will tell you that graphics don't matter while making a game, and I agree. But there is a difference between graphics and art style. Graphics are there simply to make it visually appealing (Which isn't bad, just not something important.) while art style is what allows you to feel what the world your exploring is like. It really does feel like your exploring a world your exploring. It's something your going to have to experience for yourself in order to truly understand.

Graphics: It's on the 3ds, a console criticized for being underpowered. Regardless, I think the graphic hold up and nothing looked bad to me. Things didn't look pixilated at all unless I looked really closely.

Level cap: This is an issue gold and silver suffered a lot from and people still loved those games, so I guess most people don't mind it as much as me. One complaint I had with the original was that the level cap was a little bit low. This however, is not only fixed, but made what I think is perfect. The exp share is a key item again and it works just like it did in X and Y. It gives your entire team half the experience your lead pokemon got effectively eliminating grinding. It does make the game a cakewalk, but who plays a pokemon game for challenge? Actually, if you turn the exp share off (Yes you can still tun it off) and don't grind at all the game is actually a bit challenging. I actually found myself needing to use more competitive tactics in order to beat the game on my first play through.

Gameplay: It's pokemon! You know the gameplay is good. Next!

Content: There is a lot to do in the region, however unless your into competitive battling there might not be that much for you. It depends on what you like to do in the post game. If you like raising new teams (none competitively) Many new pokemon become available to you after you beat the pokemon league. Including tons of legendary pokemon. If you want to catch them all (Which isn't hard, it's just very time consuming as event legendaries are not required to get your certificate.) Get ready to work your pants off. There is lots of stuff for competitive battling so if you are into that, get ready because you have a lot of new features to explore.

Story: They made the story seem actually interesting and made me understand exactly what was at risk. I won't spoil anything, but the villain team actually seemed intimidating at first. The leader could wipe you out anytime he pleases, this is the feeling I got while playing the game.

Disappointments: Anything bad I have to say is really personal and nit picky, I may as just not complain about it. However, I would like to address my stance on the "Too Much Water" complaint. One, this is a personal complaint. Not something inherently wrong. This is why some people love gen 3 and some people hate gen 3. I loved exploring the vast ocean as a kid but hated getting lost. Which has been fixed thanks to the area nav.

Conclusion: The game might not be for you, but it's a great game if it is. Sure, it might not be perfect but no game is. People love ocarina of time despite it's issues such as the water temple, or navi. I would say it's worth your money even if you did play the originals. the originals haven't aged very well and the games are really fun. If you love pokemon, get the game now. If you like pokemon, wait for a price drop.

I hope this helped you decide of you would like to get the game or not. Have a good day! :)

In my opinion, they did not do badly, and the fact that they are continuing the 3D series i something I think we can all look forward to.

Played a little bit of Ruby and Sapphire, so when I saw they were making the 3D renditions of them both, so I happily picked up a copy, and I have to say, I have no complaints. At the end of the day it is still a Pokemon game, just with upgraded graphics. The games stick to a particular formula, and for fans of the series, it works.

2 minor complaints though. Given the actual new age of the fan base for Pokemon, I think in later games that it could be an awesome change of the made the main story a tiny bit darker and a bit more adult. What I mean by that is it could push the age rating up a little bit, without alienating the new fan base.

The other little complaint I have is that the frame rate drops a lot when you send in your pokemon, depending on how much movement is happening on the screen. Usual frame rate doesn't really bother me, but it does start to bug you after a while when you keep noticing it happen.

All in all it is a Pokemon game, and a good one at that. Can't wait until they bring out a Kanto version. It's fun and good to have in the collection.

I pre-ordered pokemon Alpha Sapphire since august, and sacrificed quite a few games at GameStop to get it. Played it for the first few days and find myself dissapointed. Although this was the remake of Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire, there were too many changes made to the game that completely butchered my childhood memories. It no longer feels like the Ruby and Sapphire version I knew when I was a kid. Just another X and Y with a linear RS story line. Ruby and Sapphire from the old days used to be much less linear than their so called remakes.

Here are the features that Nintendo completely butchered from the Original Ruby and Sapphire.

-They removed the berry blender we had from the Original Ruby/Sapphire. It was an extremely fun minigame to make pokeblocks with. Pokeblocks arent that huge of a necessity unless 1. You want to evolve Feebas. or 2.) You want to participate in the pokemon contests, which haven't had that much improvement since the original.

-Game Corner is now removed from the game. All to cater to one country that complained about Childhood gambling, Nintendo decides to ruin it for the rest of the countries. Game Corner was a very fun, time wasting feature to do when you're bored. You could spend hours at the slot machines until you had enough coins to get your TM or pokemon doll.

-New Mauville is innaccessible until you obtained the 7th badge. In addition to this, the wild pokemon levels in New Mauville were not raised or boosted to compensate for how late in the game one can enter. In Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire, you just needed to defeat the 5th gym leader and obtain Surf.

-Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire has become much more linear than their original counterparts. In Ruby and Sapphire, you would run into small roadbloacks before exploring further, it wasn't a big deal, and one would explore quite a bit and discover newer routes and catch new pokemon without any issues. I could get to Dewford Cave, talk to Steven and deliver the goods before I challenge the 2nd Gym, or Reach Lilycove, buy a Thunder TM, or catch a Pikachu in the Safari Zone before I challenge the 6th gym. Now I have to beat X gym leader to go any further and explore the game. It's annoying mechanic that was never an issue prior to 5th Gen where you can explore a lot of areas without any issues, now from 5th Generation versions on, exploration becomes completely gated. Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire is sadly no exception, where you could explore side areas with no issues.

My expectations weren't all that high, but I expected it to be the same as Heart Gold/Soul Silver, and Fire Red/Leaf Green. What made these games so amazing? They added more fun features to the game without taking away what made their originals what they were.

Onega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire on the other hand? Took away too much that it no longer feels like the game I used to play 11 years ago.

Sadly this is not the Pokémon I remember, calling this game easy would be insult to injury... surely children of today can't be THIS stupid. The whole ride from start to end is a straight line with no challenge whatsoever, even if you disable the exp share option the gym leaders still are severely under leveled compared to their GBA counterparts. Trainers often carry one or two pokémon and it isn't until post game when that will change.

It feels more like a chore getting through the game, no more hidden secrets or exploring, hidden moves obtained from the story and you are constantly reminded where to go next.

All the extra stuff they added, pokémon cosplay and what not else, personally I couldn't give a crap about it and completely skipped it, if I want to play time wasting smartphone trash I'd use my smartphone...

    - Where is the Battle Frontier? This is Hoenn region, not XY. Copying and pasting the Battle Maison from XY is just lazy. Again, could've made a Battle Frontier instead of stupid Mega-Evolutions.
    - Pokemon Contest animations were disappointing. Wish they would've taken advantage of the 3DS tech and made it more visually appealing.

Context for me: I haven't touched a Gamefreak game in 8 years. I loved emerald generation because it did so many things right - it added alternate stories for the villains, it gave us secret bases, and MOST of all it was the genesis of the Battle Frontier. After a brief stint in Diamond and Pearl I decided Gamefreak was better left untouched.

Actual review: Alpha Sapphire has no reason to get anything over a five from generous reviewers. The difficulty is non existent (your rival has turned into a mobile WAAAmbulance to prevent you from every feeling nervous) The new animations have ugly frame rate drops, the grid movement has been half-lobotomized to leave us with awkward 3DS joystick control, and Gamefreak spent so much time adding megalutions that there is NO endgame content. Battle frontier was replaced with a shoddy Battle Tower replica that's apparently just a clone from X and Y.
A lot of reviews I've read say that Gamefreak did what they could to meet budget and time constraints, but that's pretty half-assed when they are only cloning an existing game to have updated mechanics. I ain't mad that they can't even get one good thing done right - that is par for Gamefreak and Nintendo these days - I am quite saddened that the fanboys will just applaud anything they touch, though.

The upgrade given to Ruby and Sapphire puts them on par with the 6th Generation of games, Pokemon X and Y, in the graphics and animation department. It also adds in most the quality-of-life improvements the series has undergone over the past several iterations.

The story is a similar (but not exactly the same) journey through the Hoenn region with new life breathed into each location, some of which have undergone radical transformations. In fact, some locations are entirely new. The same goes for the characters you'll meet along the way. Relationships are deeper and more fleshed out with the main cast this time around. Some faces make their debut appearance while you'll recognize one or two from previous games. This all contributes toward ORAS feeling like its own fresh experience despite being remakes of GBA games.

Another aspect that's gotten a facelift is the postgame. Completing the game starts the all-new Delta Episode, which sees you attempting to stop a meteor from crashing into the Hoenn region. There's also an all-new Battle Resort which takes the place of the Battle Frontier. Finally, it should be noted that ORAS features a stunning number of legendary Pokemon to find, some of which are version-specific. Essentially every legendary that isn't an event-exclusive Pokemon or a legendary Pokemon that appeared in X/Y is available to catch in this game, which is fantastic.

Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire are fantastic remakes that succeed in delivering the best of the original games while innovating in thoughtful and meaningful ways. As good as Pokemon X and Y were, I actually prefer ORAS when it comes to Generation 6. I recommend ORAS wholeheartedly to any fan of the Pokemon series, be you someone who loved the originals or if you want to experience the magic of the third generation for the first time.

AlphaSapphire managed to rekindle my love for Pokemon.
Starting by the presentation, I know that Pokemon games are very simple and hardly ever bring anything cutting edge to the table, but where it lacks in novelty, it compensates in winsomeness.
From the cities, to the map, gyms, monster design, environments and even those repetitive dungeons and fights - This game is adorable and it throws the cutesy factor in your face. And it works!
It blends well with the classic turn-based battle system and fits like a glove with its monster design. Gen 3 Pokemon are amazing and it made want to catch, hunt and seek almost every Pokemon on this Pokedex.

A few quality of life improvements helped the game to become more agile. AlphaSapphire makes some old Pokemon games seem like a chore. It's a bit fast, slicker, and even more accessible than before. Its new gameplay quirks made the loop even more addictive. For example EXP Share, which is a godsend mechanic.
All in all, AlphaSapphire was one of the chillest Pokemon games I've played. And that casual design philosophy didn't bother me at all. I loved battling gym leaders, elite four, the aqua team and hunting legendary creatures. I took my time with it and I was rewarded for it.

But not everything is flowers in Hoenn. AlphaSapphire may have improved on the classic formula, but forgot to fix a few flaws. They masked them well, but they're there.
This game is still a grind fest, especially if you want to rematch Elite 4, catch legendary Pokemon or even battle online. The story sucks, as usual, and although the amount of content make up for it, even Delta Episode felt a bit dull. HMs are still a thing here and there are LOTS of them. And the soundtrack... My god, it's BAD!
Also, why the Mirage Spots mechanic? Were they really necessary? I get that it's a way to cram many legendary monsters into this game, but it ended up being a confusing, complex and uninviting hot mess!
A few other things slowed down my experience. Useless systems like 'super training', 'fashion show', 'planting berries'. Those were some of the things that were so unnecessary that I forgot them halfway through the game. I mean, was the 'secret base' system THAT fun and useful? I didn't think so...

AlphaSapphire brought my heart back to Pokemon. It's not only a great game in the series, but a good JRPG, in general.
Old flaws and conservative design mechanics do weigh down and the grind makes the experience repetitive, but nothing broke it for me.
My trip to Hoenn was worth it and I'll won't forget it so soon.

The story before the Pokemon League is really long and it is a nice change. After the Poke League, you get the Delta Episode, which is almost standalone DLC like story regarding mega evolution, which was obviously not there at all in the original game. The graphics of the Gen VI is very nice, the music is classic Pokemon. One downside I see is the completely changed mechanics of the Exp. Share feature. It is no longer a held item, but rather a key item, which you can turn on and off as you like. The big change though, is that now all Pokemon in your party get 50 % of the Exp the active pokemon gets. Furthermore, all Pokemon that take part in the battle, get 100 % Exp, regardless of whether Exp. Share is turned on or off. That is a huge, enormous change. So in total your party gets 350 % to 600 % of the exp in every battle. The wild/enemy pokemon levels do not reflect this at all, so even if you do a speed run, you will overlevel everyone very quickly. That is ridiculous. Of course you can turn the Exp. Share off and I suggest you do, but then you do not have any Exp. Share, which was always one of the key features in Pokemon games. This is a big oversight and complicate things very much.

Pokemon Alpha Sapphire is a decent remake with nice story additions, but one stupid mechanics decision brings the whole game down a notch. Final Verdict: 76%

Like Pokemon X and Y, it's pathetically easy to complete. It has a lot of great side content for customization and exploration. On top of that, their's a lot rare Pokemon to collect in the post game. It's just a pretty bland adventure. Its hard to appreciate the lore they added into this remake when every trainer crumbles like a stone hit by a thousand waves. I havent been able to enjoy a Pokemon game for 10 years until this came out. Gen 3 was the last good Pokemon generation for me and this adequately filled my nostalgic needs.

5/10. One of my favourite mainline Pokemon games. Entertained me as a child, but doesn't hold up too great today.

Pokémon Alpha Sapphire makes the bold choice of retelling and reinterpreting the story, characters and lore of the Hoenn games with new lenses, drawing from the ideas and concepts that X and Y introduced. This undoubtably makes them lesser products as mere remakes, but the changes made ultimately make these a much more varied and deep experience than the originals'. The changes made to some characters' motivations make them less childish in concept, and a new original story after the main campaign gives certain characters a more compelling conclusion to their arcs while diving deeper into the lore of the original games. Additions made by XY like the Petting of Pokémon, the Super Training and the Megaevolutions make a return, the latter even being integrated in the narrative in ways that expand on original concepts. Pokémon Contests and Secret Bases are visually revamped with a lot of new content to make them even richer side-activities, but also new features that allow players to hunt Pokémon with more precision or soar the skies of the region while uncovering new secrets in the clouds, which is visually breathtaking and an amazingly immersive concept. Even with the usually repetitive core gameplay, ORAS had the potential to become the best main games in the franchise but are held back by underwhelming care put in the battle aspect of the game, being excessively easy with the Battle Frontier being replaced by an inferior facility with less content.

Expand

So much fun to hunt down all the legendaries
The primal reversions are the coolest improvements to add to any remake games main plot,
and are an epic parallel to the 6th generation's primary feature: mega evolution.
(not fairy type we don't talk about that)
It gave me nostalgia for a game I haven't even played...

    7.8/10 - too much water!

An incredible remake that further reworks the superb original game. It brings new graphics, new content, and a reworked central story. Its a ton of fun from start to finish with a great balance of pokemon to catch, and a solid amount of postgame content.

Um excelente remake de uma das melhores gerações da franquia. Pra mim ainda é o mais nostálgico e significativo.

A much better experience than what was expected. The change in the rhythm and the emphasis in the story elements manage to captivate the player in a way that the Game Boy Advance versions couldn’t.

Another good game with pocket monsters, providing hours of fun for fans. But it does not offer the same breath of fresh air as last year's X and Y.
