MH3U is more beautiful than recent titles in my opinion. I actually don't mind the underwater fights. I'm more upset that they don't have online multiplayer for 3DS. Definitely tons better than MH Tri in the diversity of maps and monsters. Not quite as beginner friendly as 4U or generations though.

Greatly overrated. Monster hunter is only good if you are a kid with tons of free time and have a close circle of friends to play multiplayer with. Otherwise, there is nothing of value here.

As a single player experience, this is a boring grind with no story. There is no real challenge, you don't need to be smart to win, just have a lot of time in your hands to grind and gather stuff.

The graphics are meh and the controls on the 3DS are total garbage without the add on.

All in all, totally overrated. Get this if you are a japanese fanboy and don't know any better about good western games, otherwise, skip it.

I do agree that no online play is a little disappointing, but monster hunter has always been a local co-op play game. I recommend this game over monster hunter 4 ultimate, but both are still amazing games.

There's lots of customization for your character. You get to slaughter massive monsters. You can carry a blade twice the size of your character, and maneuver around like a bloody pro. Getting bored of slaying huge monsters? No problem! Run into a cave and mine! Go fishing, because screw saving the town from a huge thunder serpent. I just wanna eat some salmon.

Sorry, lack of online multiplayer is a game breaker for a Monster Hunter game.

    Pros:
    + Monster design
    + deep game play
    + crafting and upgrading
    + Communicates with Wii U
    + local multiplayer

    Cons:
    - NO ONLINE MULTIPLAYER
    - on small screen (game like this needs full HD)
    - worlds broken into pieces with loading walls everywhere
    - Communicates with Wii U, but NOT a cross buy

The only downside to this game is the huge learning curve that is even bigger due to the lack of online. But you are going to have to do some grinding, good or not, later down the line as this game is huge! Each weapon makes it feel like a different game and the huge quantity of monsters means there is ALWAYS a bigger badder monster weighting behind the corner.
The graphics are great but who cares anyway, you didn't buy a 3DS for the graphics did you? The offline story is the same as Tri plus high rank offering a few new monsters if you have played portable 3rd. The "online quests" are the same as the offline ones until you get to G-rank so just play through the offline ones first and the controls take getting used to but when you've got them down it will become second nature.
    Good Points
    -Lots of content
    -Good graphics
    -Lots of monsters
    Bad Points
    -No online

If I only had one game for my 3ds this would be it as it's a lot of fun, rewards like no other, and takes many thousands of hours to complete using all weapons types / classes.

Highly recommended to fans of the franchise or to anyone that likes fighting with a solid tactical / strategic foundation.

Whilst the general pool of quests is lower than the amount you'd see in the single player, the game has such strong teamwork built into it that it even rivals MOBAs. The only complaint I have is that a Circle Pad Pro or the New Nintendo 3DS is a compliment to the game, otherwise underwater monsters will be a pain to fight. Of course, you can always buy it on the Wii U. Expand

This game is very good at its core, but both in itself (I guess) and even more so in this specific port it takes so much time and shenanigans to get to the good part it's almost not worth it:

-Great chunk of the game: the multiplayer, is gone and only available locally.
-Controls on 3DS or 2DS will literally break your hands.
-Grinding is as intensive as it gets: the game even deliberately leaves you at a gap between your gear and its "difficulty" (as in, the immense HP and damage output of enemies, thus making it only artificial difficulty) once you reach High rank and G rank respectively so that your game comes to a stop and forces you to farm and look for a weapon you may not even want to craft, hindering the freedom that was given to you at first in choosing weapons.
-Incredibly confusing... everything. From abilities, sporting needlessly two names: a name for when they are activated and a name on the stuff that awards said abilities, to millions of items and weapon characteristics and features that only a Wiki can save you from and it doesn't help that said wikis aren't really well made on the internet (sure, you can learn all of those and get used to those, it's never an excuse for sloppy design). Sometimes it feels like a modded game where you can drop stuff and gather it but then you just find a vendor that has them. Money, resource points, vouchers, gourment vouchers, trades, and tons of stuff that serve no purpose other than segmenting one single feature as they are all available in the same, only place in the game and they certainly don't help with immersion or anything like that since this game is as shallow and straight-forward as it gets and deliberately so, which isn't a bad thing but it's just to point out why this is a flaw.

Luckily the game itself is redeemed by its awesome weapon variety and combat, which unfortunately isn't without its flaws too:

    -Underwater combat is abysmal.
-Arbitrary "walking animation hurts you or doesn't" by monsters in a game about precision dodging and windows of opportunity to hit.

Overall giving it 7 is a big stretch. Buy a better title of the same series maybe.

The lack of tutorials at the beginning gave me a hard time to just understand how to play the game and what exactly is happening during a quest.
