Deprived of games, the Metroid fandom cried from the darkness: we will take anything! Thus, Nintendo blessed us with this game, and everybody... Hated it? Well, you did ask for "anything". Heck, it's actually slightly good, even if massively flawed. While it is slow and clunky, something about it was kinda enjoyable, and it's obvious that there was a good amount of effort put into it. It's just a shame that it wasn't what anyone really wanted. Expand

This is one of the most disappointing games Nintendo has released. The only good thing about this game is it's multiplayer and music. But at the same time the music lacks it's atmospheric tone, this game is just a first person shooter for 6 year olds, hell I don't think 6 year olds would like an fps like this. This is so mediocre, it's close to being bad out right. The cartoony/chibe design of this game is not nessecary and a good look, especially if it is a Metroid game. Metroid Prime Federation Force is mediocre as hell, but at least they tried something new with the story.

I do not recommend Metroid fans and gamers to try this out.

While it might not be the game Metroid fans wanted, the only major problem I can see with Federation Force would be the time of its release. It is a legitimately good game and fun to play. I recommend you play with your friends, since finding random people to play online can be tricky. Now go out and save the galaxy in the name of General Alex Miles and Admiral Castor Dane.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Federation Farce is not a Metroid game, or even a good game in general. If you disagree, I would highly recommend playing through the rest of the Series (Fusion, Super, the prime games of which only 3 exist at time of writing, et cetera)

If you still feel the need to defend this shameless insult to the Metroid name and fanbase, find the nearest cliff and take a nice long walk.

Metroid Prime: Federation Force is the best FPS for the 3DS, because there is no other good FPS games on 3DS. Not to say it is a bad game, it just didn't impress me that much. Including this in a wonderful expansive game library with games such as Zelda: A Link Between Worlds and Super Smash Bros, I feel like they could have done a Galactic Federation-focused game much better. A lot of people say that this game is bad because it is slower than the Metroid games where you are Samus Aran. This is intentional, as you are NOT Samus. No speed booster, spin jump, morph ball, and much mobility. You are a team of clunky Federation tanks tasked with blasting the **** out of the Space Pirates and (for one mission) Metroids. Just because you are using heavy Federation elites doesn't mean it is a slow game. It can actually get very fast-paced at times, especially in rooms that lock you with waves and waves of Space Pirates. I also really like the variation in missions that never fails to provide tension, excitement, and overall hectic moments. My least favorite thing about Federation Force: the lack of a single deathmatch mode. Sure, you can disable other Mechs in Blast Ball, but you cannot lock on to them like the Space Pirates and Metroids. A team deathmatch mode with a slew of (not destroyed) iconic Metroid locations such as Phazon Mines or a rebuilt B.S.L station would be amazing and not worth missing by any means. Also, the limit of 3 planets throughout the entire game was a bit disappointing for a 3DS game. Each environment is amazingly crafted and the enemies haunting each environment can make some moments exciting and sometimes even threatening. The DOOMSEYE mission was amazing, and provided pure excitement and action that made it worth calling a final mission. Samus saving your life TWICE in this mission was also cool and even surprising, and provided another reason to say that a single blind playthrough of this game was well worth it.
Blast Ball was fun... if you had anyone to play it with. That is all I am saying about it.
Overall, MPFF was a solid game and still worth the buy, despite the amount of hate it gets.

They told telepathically (they used the force) that this game would be the pinnacle of human achievement. I go to the start screen and my 3DS exploded from the pure awesomeness of this game. So I went outside and put a Master Chief custom on and kicked a ball in a net. Needless to say I've been hooked and haven't encountered something so beautiful. The story is just pure awesomeness (think Ocarina of Time), the graphics are amazing (think Horizon), and the soundtrack is something that will never be replicated again. More importantly, the cover is cool. 10/10 played soccer. Expand

It's possible to play by yourself but it's definitely best playing online with friends or strangers. There is lots of hidden loot and an upgrade system that will keep you coming back to the stages. And this game has the best online system of any Nintendo game (admittedly not much of an accomplishment). There is an actual lobby system and drop in/drop out multiplayer. The cartoony design is really fun and perfect for the hardware. My only gripe is the the movement is a little on the slow side but the side dash helps. Blastball is icing on the cake: A soccer FPS in the vein of Rocket League. Warning! It's a spin-off so don't get upset that you can't play as Samus. But she does make an appearance! Expand

OK.........this may not be the title everyone was expecting but I have played the campaign and Federation Force is a damn good game. Amazing controls and lots of nods towards the Metroid Prime universe. This is what I call a 'Double A' release. No, it's not as perfect as the first Metroid Prime, but about no game ever will. Heck, it doesn't even really feel like a Metroid game...but who cares? The game is excellent by itself. Haters got to understand it's impossible for game creators to make the same game over and over again... I totally respect the risks they've taken with this game, as I did few years ago with Metroid Other M. (although I think MPFF is even better...)

So far I'm almost done with the Solo campaign. It plays very well, no problem at all, I'm not even thinking about playing multiplayer mode. I was a bit afraid of the controls before trying the game but they are really great, not hard at all to get into. The pace is kinda slow a bit (you control a huge mech so...) you won't get the speed effect you had in previous Metroids, but the game is so fun, well-crafted and ingenious that, really it doesn't matter much...

As for the graphics, the apparently infamous "Chibi" art style, personnally I absolutely love them. I think it's perfect for smaller screens like the DS, and it's even a reason why I bought the game in the first place ; I toughed graphics looked great. If you don't like them, well, what can I say? your artistic tastes sucks and that's it.

So forget about all the bad critics and Metroid nostalgia and give this game a try. A true Classic in my opinion.

Metroid Prime: Federation Force is a clear sign of Nintendo either not understanding or just not caring about what kind of games their player base wants. It’s a shame really, since Federation Force controls pretty well. It just has the burden of being a multiplayer shooter in a series no one wants to be about multiplayer shooters and on a platform no one wants to use for multiplayer games outside of Japan. Mission objectives are rarely limited to simple elimination of opposition: from the very beginning game presents tasks like luring animals into cages or infiltrating enemy base. Not to mention that there are tons of levers or buttons to be pushed and secret passages to be found, which brings back fond memories of FPS from the 90-s, as well as classic Metroid games.
