Yes, this is the BEST Kirby game to date so far - this surpasses any Wii or Wii U Kirby games ever released! Thing about Kirby games is, you actually have fun and enjoy playing the game. It's not about the challenge (otherwise, you'd be playing Monster Hunter or Fire Emblem Fates Conquest on Lunatic Classic mode right?), but it's about the JOY of playing a Kirby game.

Even though I play games like Monster Hunter, I ALWAYS preorder Kirby games simply because it's soooooo therapeutic and makes me feel good playing it - it's relaxing, it's fun, it's cute. It's a truly feel-good game with cute Kirby and solid mechanics in gameplay that is truly enjoyable. The usual copy abilities of Kirby is there, plus there are a few new powers.

However, the new thing this time round is that Kirby dons the mech-suit, and unlike Kirby Triple Deluxe (which was pretty good, but the mega suction felt a little gimmicky and "forced"), the mech-suit actually feels like an integral part of the game, heck, you even have the COPY ability in mech mode, which makes it super super cool and fun. There's a lot of variety in the game, and it feels fresh from one level to another. On top of that you could use the new Kirby amiibos (there are 4) to add some fun copy abilities - I've only got the Kirby amiibo which transforms Kirby into a UFO Kirby.

So why do I buy this game even though it's not a very long game? Because it's a PERFECT game, with PERFECT mechanics and the PERFECT level of fun and cuteness and joy. It's worth every penny I spent on it. Don't hesitate - buy it, and enjoy it immediately - for both kids AND adults!

Kirby: Planet Robobot begins with the Haltmann Works Company mechanising Planet Popstar, turning the scenery into technological dystopia; the premise for the plot is much more unique than previous Kirby games, with a better overall structure than before. The game uses the plot as a basis for the art style, which Kirby: Planet Robobot nails, as it looks much better than Triple Deluxe, stylistically. scientific laboratories, mechanised pyramids, and even a casino. It ties together to make Planet Robobot interesting, as you don't know what to expect from level to level.

Furthermore, the music is great - using remixes of classic compositions and new, unique songs, the soundtrack is great to listen to and most definately compliments the gameplay. I like how some of the music is very odd and different for the series, showing the creators had a fun time composing songs and developing interesting environments for Kirby. My favourite song is the boss music for the first five worlds.

I've mentioned Kirby: Triple Deluxe numerous times, and for good reason - the core game is built on the same engine behind Triple Deluxe; whilst that may sway some into believing the game is too similar to it's predecessor, the game does enough to separate itself from the prior entry. This is mainly achieved through the use of the Robobot Armour. Along Kirby's adventure, Kirby will encounter armour from the Haltmann Works Company that he can steal and use for his own. This is a great extension to gameplay as it turns the main game from somewhat more action-oriented to somewhat more puzzle-oriented. The Robobot Armour can also copy selected enemy abilities, which allows it to transform into one of many Armour types.

The game uses these Armour types to add variety to the gameplay; Jet Mode turns the game into a side-scrolling shooter, whilst Wheel Mode turns the game into something akin to a 2D racer, as you jump into the background and foreground. This doesn't mean that the normal Kirby gameplay hasn't been forgotten about either, with three new Copy Abilities added to the mix - ESP, Doctor and Poison. I like these new copy abilities, though my least favourite is Poison. ESP is very overpowered however, and, in my opinion, needs to be powered-down in future entries.

Speaking of being overpowered - the game is very easy, as Kirby and the Robobot Armour are both very powerful and can easily destroy enemies without giving them an opportunity to attack. This was an issue in Triple Deluxe; Planet Robobot is a bit more difficult than Triple Deluxe, but not by much. Furthermore, this game is a little short, but not massively; with the Code Cubes and Stickers (yes, they're copied from Triple Deluxe), there is certainly enough content in the main game to give you 6 to 8 hours of gameplay. Finding all the Stickers and Rare Stickers takes a long time! Despite the low difficulty, the levels are well designed and fun to play through.

There are a few bonus games included with Planet Robobot as well, such as Kirby 3D Rumble (wherein Kirby is placed into a 3D environment and must inhale enemies to survive) and Team Kirby Clash (a co-operative game wherein either a group of people/CPU's must work together to take down a boss). These are great bonus games, available from the start of the game, however, they are very short, and can be beaten (not mastered) quickly. I can praise Kirby 3D Rumble for doing something the series hasn't truly done before, and I would like to see a 'Deluxe' edition of 3D Rumble at a future date. The music/graphics in these modes is also pretty good.

Along with the above, there is The Arena and The True Arena (like previous entries), which are fun to speed run through; there is one final mode, however, I wish not to spoil it for you, so, I'll say that it's a nice twist on the Kirby formula which finally returns, making a nice overall final bonus mode. It's also one of two hard modes in the game (along with The True Arena), which at least ensure the entire experience isn't stupidly easy (albeit the Story Mode does get a little harder towards the end).

Overall, Kirby: Planet Robobot is one of the greatest entries in the series yet, standing up to games such as Kirby Super Star/Fun Pak and one I recommend to all platformer fans, and especially Kirby fans. Don't let the difficult distract you - it's still a fun and enjoyable experience.

    Overall, I give this a 9 out of 10!

    + Great graphics and music
+ Robobot Armour is a worthwhile addition
+ The new Copy Abilities are inventive
+ Kirby 3D Rumble is a unique bonus mode
+ The level design is great

    - Too easy
    - Short (both the Story Mode and bonus modes)

Good music, too, along with some genuine challenges. The several game modes offered are great pastimes when not participating in the Story, and I even found myself having fun with local multiplayer in the Heroes mode. One thing I might note about the story though is that, while I know Kirby games may not be the most heavy in stories, the ending was a bit too far fetched for my liking, jumping to the climax of the story really quick. However, that's nothing to bother me from acknowledging the game for what it is and what it tries to be. TL;DR, get this game! It's a great introduction to the Kirby franchise and it's insanely fun! I never thought I'd see a Kirby game stand toe to toe with the standards set by Superstar, but 20 years later, we're finally there. The cubes hidden in each stage pose an appropriate level of challenge to collect, and while the stages and minibosses themselves are more of a fun ride than a challenge, the main boss encounters are both wildly creative and surprisingly challenging. The final boss really has to be seen to be believed, I love it.

To round out the package, you also get a couple minigames and extra modes (including The Arena) to play. Pretty much the only thing missing is co-op.

The addition of the robot suits in Kirby is probably the most refreshing mechanic in a Kirby game that I’ve seen in some time. Jumping into the suit makes Kirby an absolute powerhouse. Every ability can be used in the robot suit, giving a whole new dimension to the combat and puzzle solving. Some puzzles can only be solved with a combination of the suit and a specific power, making puzzles much more enjoyable and dynamic.

One of the biggest complaints I’ve had about Kirby games is that many of the powers have been one-dimensional. As an example, the Beam power has been around forever and the only thing you could do with it is create an arching beam “sword” against enemies. Now, in this new game, almost every ability has several different styles. From shooting up or at an angle or to creating a new effect while having full health (like Zelda’s sword beam), each new ability really shows off better combat capabilities for a more dynamic sense of play. In the Robot suit, instead of Electric powered Kirby shooting off an electric aura like Blanka from Street Fighter, the Robot suit shoots off bouncing balls of electricity. On top of that, most abilities also have alternate modes of fire, like being able to charge up a shot to do more damage.

Planet Robobot really shows off in the collectibles department. Each level has hidden code cubes you gather by solving gradually tougher puzzles throughout the game. Each level has a set number of cubes and if you collect all of them in an area, a new EX level opens, giving the player a more difficult but ultimately fun challenge. Alongside the code cubes, players also collect stickers throughout each level. Most common stickers act on a seemingly RNG mechanic and certain levels will contain hard to find gold stickers which are usually rarer designs. Ultimately, all the stickers did was change the look of your robot suit and did nothing in the way of stats, making them seemingly useless. However, for the true collector, it gives a solid incentive to go back through levels and collect more stickers.

The developers out-did themselves on level and enemy design in this game. Each level felt different and dynamic. There were times where most of the level I would run through using the robot to smash enemies and other times I would be using it to carefully solve puzzles. Most times, the levels were split between a foreground and a background area that you could jump between to progress or collect items and it really busted up the monotony of typical side scrolling games. Some of the more memorable levels had Kirby transform into a car to traverse the level or flying areas where Kirby would change into a plane and fight flying enemies and bosses. Bosses and sub-bosses were even dynamically fresh with multiple phases, attack patterns and arena changes. At one point you could be fighting a boss in a flat 2D environment and the next phase you could be dodging projectiles in a 3D circle while the boss tries to stomp on you. It made for a great use of the 3DS mechanics while still keeping the style of Kirby intact.

Of course, many of Kirby’s old pals and enemies are back for the ride like Meta Knight and King Dedede but it also brought in some pretty cool antagonists and frenemies The antagonists were interesting though sparsely used. After beating the game, there are several different endings depending on the amount of code cubes you’ve collected, all culminating in some truly epic boss battles. Even after beating the fairly lengthy main story, there are a good chunk of mini-games and side missions including a boss arena, a time-attack mode, a 3D puzzler and a 4-player Monster Hunter styled adventure game, pitting you and 3 other Kirby's against bosses with huge health bars. Players can level up in this mode and use different Kirby forms such as Swords, Hammer, Healing and Magic to defeat the enemy as quickly as possible, making this one of my favorite mini-games in ANY Kirby game to date.

Overall, the new Kirby: Planet Robobot is a fantastic title for Nintendo and their 3DS system. I found hours and hours of new things to do or collect without ever really feeling any kind of repetitive gameplay. With the addition of robot suits, new abilities, engaging boss battles and levels, the game really shows its strength in versatility. I haven’t played a Kirby game in some time due to stale gameplay but Planet Robobot showed me that Kirby and friends are still just as awesome as they ever were.

The biggest one being the new Robobot Armor that Kirby can ride, which essentially replaces the Hypernova from Triple Deluxe. The Robobot Armor is capable of heavy damage on both enemies and even the environment in some cases and can also copy certain abilities of enemies. And I think it's an awesome feature. On top of normal puzzle rooms that the Kirby series is good with, the Robobot Armor opens up new ideas for new puzzles. However the Robobot Armor can only have a certain amount of abilities and they aren't as diverse as Kirby with said powers, but they are capable of solving unique puzzles. On the topic of copy abilities, the line up in this game is really great, mixing in the series staples such as Fire, Ice, Sword and Beam, adding in new ones such as ESP, Doctor and Poison and reviving some old abilities not seen in a long time, such as Jet, a revamped Smash ability and my personal second favorite of all time, Mirror. The world themes were pretty awesome as well and the added robotic appearance each world had made the areas look really nice. While the main game won't take that long (if you're really dedicated to it), the amount of stuff to do afterwards still makes up for it. The game still isn't that hard either, but the Kirby gameplay itself more than makes up for it in my opinion. So overall, I really loved this game. While generally easy, it's still a fantastic Kirby game with an awesome new feature, an amazing set of copy abilities and classic fun stuff to do when the story is all said and done. Expand

Kirby: Planet Robobot is quite a fun game, but it's not without its drawbacks.

Let's start with the positives, The Soundtrack. The soundtrack in this game is very good, heck, there wasn't a theme in the game which I couldn't hum along to as I played.

The gameplay is quite good as well, the controls are smooth, the stages are designed solidly enough, and the new robot power-up is exceedingly fun to use. (I especially love the fire power-up with the robot.)

On the visuals/graphics, this is a very nice game to look at. It's very colorful, and feels very "alive," so to say. The framerate is stable as well, and the animations are fluid and consistent.

All of the things I mentioned above are great, they really are, but there are quite a few things in this game that bug me.

First, the difficulty. To be blunt, this game PISS. EASY. I'm not expecting Ghosts and Goblins levels of difficulty in a Kirby game, but seriously, when you're effortlessly plowing though enemies and bosses, it just gets really monotonous after the first few hours of gameplay.

My next gripe is with the repetition. Every single stage is just, walk forward, inhale and enemy, get their power-up, annihilate the rest of the enemies, and maybe a boss along the way. Very rarely do stages appear which decide to mix things up, like one stage where your robot gets upgraded to a jet, but, as I already stated, this happens a minute amount of times. Consistency is good, but when consistency gets in the way of new concepts and ideas, sometimes it's best to be a bit more risky.

And my final complaint is with length. I think there are about 6 worlds in the game. I beat 2 of them in about an hour and a half. Sure, there are other modes, which add replay value (somewhat), but overall, this game is a little on the short side.

All in all, this is quite a decent game, I would cetainly recommend it to Kirby fans, there is tons here to like if you are. But to everyone else who is interested, I would suggest waiting for a price drop or sale.

Game also has more of a plot than most other kirby games in recent times. The visuals are outstanding for a 3ds game and is one of the only 3ds games to make the 3d feature work very well.

    OKS:

    CONS:
-I dislike the way Kirby feels. It's sluggish, which I know is what Kirby is...but I still don't like it.
-There is only one action button but each costume has multiple attacks. This leads to using the wrong attack a lot. I've tried practicing one attack at a time but every once in awhile it'd trigger a different attack. For instance a basic standing still attack can turn into a forward attack if you don't make sure Kirby is completely still before attacking. This is annoying but since the game is so simple you are never punished for it.
-Poor level design. I literally floated through an entire level with no obstacles. Sometimes a level has you walk for a minute until you reach a door with a token enemy or two in your way. They are "bridges" to the more interesting levels but I don't see why they are needed at all.
-Poor gameplay design. I'll give you an example: so I'm walking up a 45 degree hill and there is an enemy coming up so I punch but my punch goes 90 degrees instead of with the angle of the hill. What is this the 90s?
-People seem to love the robot but I don't understand why. It controls exactly the same as Kirby but slower and without the ability to float. The only thing it is good for is interacting with the environment by turning screws and breaking logs. There is an occasional flying level that is more fun than the normal levels but nothing great.

Conclusion: I apparently just dislike Kirby. If you like Kirby games then you'll probably like this Kirby game. I just feel like Kirby plays like an archaic platformer with 2016 polish.

Kirby Planet Robobot does everything a good Kirby game should. Great music, abilities, bosses, amiibo support, unlockables and completion rewards. There is only one problem with this game and series: The difficulty, keeping the game insanely easy until the difficulty spike that is the true arena is a staple of Kirby but at this point in gaming it is a problem.

This is the best Kirby game of all-time.

When Kirby is in a mech it feels so awesome to punch and crush the bigger enemies that you normally couldn't!

Originally when this game first released, I was hesitant to try it out. I viewed the robotic world theme to be a tired approach for video game design. But much to my dismay, the theming didn't limit the creativity that Kirby games are well known for. You explore ice cream factories, musical cities, casinos, and high-speed racetracks.

I thought I was in for a game similar to Little Battlers Experience with fun gameplay but repetitive level design. In that game almost every major level was a factory or military base. And while at its core, the game was really enjoyable, it suffered from stale world building. Making most of the challenges feel identical.

This game is anything but generic. The platforming and puzzle challenges are still really fun. With a gameplay style that's similar to Triple Deluxe only with stages that have completely different flavors. Triple Deluxe had a fairy tale theme with its level design with a focus on King Dedede. While Planet Robobot has a mechanical theme with levels with a bigger focus on the character Meta Knight. These games remind of the version exclusive capabilities of core series Pokemon games, only fleshed out more theme-wise, and carry more beneficial content.

And the fact that it's jammed packed with easter eggs and references to other Kirby games. I can only describe as a sequel that hugs the entire franchise. Specifically showing love to Superstar and Superstar Ultra. Go play it if your a big Kirby fan.
